Chantix vs zyban

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix vs zyban

chantix

Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
407029 tn?1253992623 If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where. Chantix is a wonder drug as far as I'm concerned. To me the benefits of Chantix far out way any of the risks.
Avatar m tn I started taking Zyban about two months ago for smoking cessation. At first I had very little side effects - in fact, I felt fantastic and ceased smoking within the first week. Three weeks into the treatment, I became emotionally very unstable, crying for no reason, feelings of worthlessness - almost an induced depression with insomnia, very vivid dreams, severe join pains etc. I coped well with those until I went out one night, had a few drinks and a total blackout followed.
Avatar f tn Since I am struggling with my moods due to lack of meds, I am very concerned about how the nicotine withdrawals if I were to quit cold turkey. Any suggestions? From my research I have found that Chantix is definitely not an option for me.
Avatar m tn I quit smoking using Chantix as well. I am only 1 month non-smoking. I only took Chantix for 9 days as on the 9th day I found out i was pregnant. So I was non smoking and pregnant, to only two weeks later miscarry. I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix.
Avatar f tn Today I have 1 year of not smoking cigarettes. Woot whew! I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum….
Avatar f tn I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
393419 tn?1228447393 I was fatigued (another possible effect of thyroid) and the chantix gave me more energy. I eased into the chantix and when I was near the end of the treatment, I weaned off slowly. My husband also took Chantix, but right after he started, he read some of the articles about some possible side effects and he panicked and in spite of my warnings, stopped it cold turkey. At the same time, he quit taking his anti-depressant and I can't describe the problems he had.
Avatar f tn I knew I had an addictive personality because of a past drug problem and tried but failed quitting smoking using patches or zyban. I then tried chantix and been stopped since nov. It is a miracle drug but I have to give myself some credit too. I still take one pill a day.
Avatar n tn So, it didn't go so well, but I will try again. I've never quit cold turkey, I always give in to my stupid excuses and I know better. So, I am going to make an appt with my doctor for some extra help. I've heard Zyban is good, kinda similar to Chantix. I have general anxiety disorder which Zyban will help with that too. I'm a pharmacy student and have learned alot about what smoking does to your body, as well as I've seen it first hand with my mom.
Avatar f tn ) It sounds like ur friends that told you about this 4 week program were on some sort of aid. When you quit using like chantix or zyban you smoke for the first 2 weeks. When you smoke the nicotine binds to receptors in your body that carry the nicotine to your brain that's where the cravings come in. In these medications they block those receptors from carrying the nicotine to the brain.
Avatar n tn I invite you to hang in there with your tobacco abstinence. There are some medications nowadays that can be very helpful, including Zyban, nicotine gum, the nicotine patch, and Chantix. Any of them is better for you than smoking. Some of them can be combined, for better effect. For instance, Zyban can be combined with either the patch or the gum.
Avatar n tn Are you sure it was Zoloft and not Zyban? I was prescribed Zyban to help me quit smoking and it worked very well. Its generic name is Wellbutrin, which is an anti-depressant, but a side effect of it is that it decreases the need or craving for nicoteen.
997898 tn?1303734864 ive tried the Zyban and patches and i cant get passed the taste of the gum, losengers so Now I am taking chantix so far it seems to be working... GOOD LUCK!
1752977 tn?1418221796 ) smoke free 3 weeks now. But, I was told even once I quit to finish my pills. I have 4 or 5 weeks left. However, I'm going to O any day now if I haven't already and was wondering if I should stop them? Also, the other day I was in the drug store and I was going to pick up some folic acid. But, I noticed the pill was 1mg which is the same amount in my prenatal vitamin. Should I still get the folic acid?
Avatar n tn i've been taking zyban for three weeks now and have been experiencing lots of side effects like having nightmares e.t.c the worst experience so far has been with alcohol. i'm not a big drinker but when i have one pint of beer i seem to experiencing feelings like i have had many. Can this drug effect what alcohol does to your body and could it effect police breatherliser devices as i'm worried to drive on this drug?
645390 tn?1338555377 Could be Chantix. I had a most unpleasant and unexpected side effect from Wellbutrin (same as Zyban) many years ago. I think it is very important to be monitored anytime psychotherapeutic-type meds are used. Good thing your psychiatrist recognized Lyrica as contributing to your depression and withdrew it. Get to feeling better, Michelle.
Avatar f tn I wouldn't recommend Zyban to anyone In a Australia you can get it from the doctor but only once in a lifetime I took and found myself chasing my dog with a stick !
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
543518 tn?1245322027 Chantix be very, very good to me! I started Chantix 3 months before I finished my first round of tx. My GI and pulmonologist gave me the go ahead to use it and I have Stage 3/4 liver damage. I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting it and I was off it in less than 3 months. I had tried numerous things to help me quit, the patch, the gum, Welbutrin, and hypnosis. Chantix made it very easy for me and the benefits far outweighed any risk. Good luck to you! Mouse P.S.
Avatar f tn So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?
