Common Questions and Answers about Chantix recall drug

chantix

Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I used Chantix but I don't drink very much, especially when taking a drug. I'm almost certain that "do not drink when using this medication" is there on the label somewhere.
444932 tn?1273980797 I am now on day number 8 of taking Chantix - still smoking but have cut back. Yesterday, I started the 1 mg twice per day dose and within an hour of my a.m. dose, started itching like crazy. Benedryl gives some relief. It continued throughout the night and this morning. I do not have hives, difficulty breathing or anything like that - just itching that is driving me crazy. Anyone else had this problem with chantix?
Avatar f tn Hundreds of reports of suicides, psychotic reactions and other serious problems tied to the popular stop-smoking drug Chantix were left out of a crucial government safety review because Pfizer Inc., the drug’s manufacturer, submitted years of data through “improper channels.” Some 150 suicides — more than doubling those previously known — were among 589 delayed reports of severe issues turned up in a new analysis by the non-profit Institute for Safe Medication Practices.
Avatar m tn I hear chantix is a miracle drug for those who want to quit smoking. I think they are the same company that makes some antidepressants. However, I also read that people became suicidal on it and heard that people actually commited suicide. I have severe anxiety and other related mental problems and am so scared to take that drug but I need to quit smoking. Anyone who is on antidepressants took chantix?
Avatar f tn But I still am in trouble after stopping Chantix 7 weeks ago. Pretty nuts, a change from smoking 40 years, Effexor, Chantix, and Prozac. Should I quit every drug and start over?
Avatar f tn You ailments may be coincindental and there are plenty of people who have problems at your age who have never taken the drug. I used Chantix and quit with it after nearly 2 months on it. I am 54 and had no problems at all. I have noticed complaints about the "during and aftermath" of Chantix but no one can definitively link it to the drug. If they could, then the FDA would stop the sale.
407029 tn?1253992623 Chantix is not hard on the liver. It is excreted through the kidneys. I took Chantix 2 months before I finished my first round of treatment. I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it.
393419 tn?1228447393 I was fatigued (another possible effect of thyroid) and the chantix gave me more energy. I eased into the chantix and when I was near the end of the treatment, I weaned off slowly. My husband also took Chantix, but right after he started, he read some of the articles about some possible side effects and he panicked and in spite of my warnings, stopped it cold turkey. At the same time, he quit taking his anti-depressant and I can't describe the problems he had.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone,I have a progressive case of hepatitis C and want to use the drug Chantix to quit smoking and worried about the side affects.Does anyone have any knowledge of this drug interaction.
Avatar n tn It could be the Chantix or if you are female it could be menopause : ) Seriously though, I think that this may have been a side effect listed. Are you having nigthmares along with the night sweats? Here is a number that you can call: Call 1-866-706-2400. Ask the person on the other end if it is normal. My experience with Chantix was pretty good but I stopped taking Chantix after my third quit day. All total, a month and a half, and I didn't look back.
Avatar n tn 4 years ago, my heart went out of rhythm and I had a virtual blackout. At the same time, I also started having psychological symptoms, especially chronic derealization. I don't have anxiety or panic attacks, I feel like something toxic is effecting my mind, like the psychological side effects of Chantix or a similar drug but it won't ever wear off. Now of course at first, I had no idea about any of these terms I'm throwing out, but this is where I am 4 years later.
Avatar n tn i would like to know if the drug chantix causes seizures. i have just started taking it and since i have been on it ii have been having seizures.
Avatar m tn Itchy always and raspy, yes, but don't recall being or feeling swollen. You might want to check with you MD, just to make sure. Congratulations on your quit and keep it up! # weeks is a long time and you should be proud of yourself : ) Keep up the great work!
Avatar f tn Have you tried Chantix? If you have ins go to your doctor and ask him for chantix. It's a rx designed to block the nicotine receptors. You smoke while taking the med the first week and then you stop smoking, but continue the medicine. After the first week you will notice the cravings are mental but not so much physical. You can google "chantix" and you can learn more about it. I am 30 and have smoking since 12, it's the hardest habit to break.
Avatar f tn I was taking Chantix for about a week and a half when I had to quit it because I was experiencing depression which was getting worse by the day. This is going on the 2nd full day of no Chantix but I am still feeling depressed. I want to know how long does it stay in your system for. I woke up today and felt close to normal and then it came back again.
Avatar m tn FDA warns about Pfizer anti-smoking drug By Kim Dixon, Fri Feb 1, 08 Pfizer Inc's anti-smoking drug Chantix appears increasingly likely to be linked to serious psychiatric behavior, including suicide, U.S. regulators said on Friday. FDA officials said they have received nearly 500 reports of suicidal behavior and thinking, and 39 completed suicides. Most of these cases occurred in the United States. http://naturalhealthnews.blogspot.com/2008/01/art-bell-fell-for-dangers-of-chantix.
1609058 tn?1298089127 Evidently, the mixture of Lexapro and Chantix is not one to take lightly, and the fact that I abruptly stopped the Chantix caused me to have a severe withdrawal from the Chantix. Does anyone know more about this, or has anyone had any experience like this? I'm still blown away at all the stuff I said and did, very disconcerting to have absolutely no recollection of anything I said or did over 2 days time. Please help!
Avatar n tn I am also experiencing sore breasts while on Chantix. This is actually the 3rd time I have quit smoking with this drug. I did not experience this the last 2 times. I have now discontinued taking the medication after having quit smoking for 8 days. I know that the recommended dosing is for a whole month to three months. I have found that taking it until the general nicotine withdrawl symptoms have gone works for me.
Avatar f tn Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute. When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit? I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
Avatar m tn If you have depression you know it. Life is miserable. It's not just not being as happy as you'd like to be, it's being in a pit of despair. We have a tendency in today's society to medicalize everything, and then sell a drug to you for everything. These drugs might in fact make you feel better until they don't anymore or you have to stop taking them, which can be really hard. Alcohol makes you feel better until it doesn't.
Avatar f tn Hello, Chantix (varenicline) and Zyban (bupropion) are the only two non-nicotine medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for smoking cessation; both are available in pill form and only by prescription. Chantix received FDA approval in 2006; Zyban was approved in 1997. These drugs can be effective tools, but users need to be aware of some potentially serious side effects. You can try that and they are very cheap in some pharmacy's.
334876 tn?1229979296 s time to quit being the Marlboro man and quit smoking, my doc finally gave me the rx for chantix so I guess this is day one and I should see how good it works in about 7 days as it tends to taper off the well to smoke Wish me luck Cowboy
Avatar m tn to get a drug called Chantix to quit smoking. Was taking it the week I was taking the Norcos...that second week (this week) I'm out of Norco and quit smoking.....and I FEEL GREAT!!!! I mean seriously, minimal withdrawls, felt foggy this morning but otherwise feel just fine....no chills...NOTHING!!!! AND...I'm not smoking either!! Ok so I'm on my 3rd day of no Norco and no smokes....feeling perfect and I'm excited!! Could the Chantix be helping me with the Norco addiction?
1134609 tn?1269272200 Also there is that drug Chantix. At my office we have had patients on it and it really does work. It blocks the receptors in the brain or something so your body doesn't want the cigarettes. But, it is a prescription and you should ask your doctor about it. (It does cause crazy dreams and stuff so best to talk to your doctor.) I would say cold turkey for you is not a good idea. Good luck!
