Chantix and heart disease

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix and heart disease

chantix

Avatar n tn 4 years ago, my heart went out of rhythm and I had a virtual blackout. At the same time, I also started having psychological symptoms, especially chronic derealization. I don't have anxiety or panic attacks, I feel like something toxic is effecting my mind, like the psychological side effects of Chantix or a similar drug but it won't ever wear off. Now of course at first, I had no idea about any of these terms I'm throwing out, but this is where I am 4 years later.
380558 tn?1309042387 My Dad died a year and a half ago from heart disease. He went through chelation and ended up having open heart surgery. He was “doing fine” according to him and died in his sleep from a heart attack. Please be very careful who you listen to when it comes to taking care of your heart and vascular system. I wish he would have talked to me more and listened to GOOD advise.
Avatar n tn yes for chantix ..but they wont give me a prescription until all my other tests come back they told me that demtlying (i know i spelled it wrong) cannot be entitly excluded ...i had the spine vep ..
Avatar f tn I took chantix one for a month last march to quit, fell off the wagon and started it again last december and quit for good. Since then I have had Heart palpitations and speeding up,a constant headache that doesn't go away, dizziness, confusion, trouble breathing, and pain behind my eyes. I have had every test and they can find nothing.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar f tn If you continue to smoke this disease will progress at an accelerated rate and your quality of living will be horrid. Some people, just bending over is almost impossible and with this disease comes congestive heart failure as your heart has to work overtime to perform normal function. Incurable, but quitting smoking can slow progression of the disease.
Avatar f tn My own daughter went through the wait a year idea and ended up with a transplant because her heart disease progressed to that point. Get a second opinion.
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
Avatar f tn The reality is that these drugs - Chantix and antidepressants (which includes Zyban, which is the drug Buproprion also known as Wellbutrin) interact with our brain chemistry and Chantix has not been around long enough to have comprehensive and conclusive long term reasearch evidence (researches talk that basically means we don't know what we may find way down the road and all new Rx's have this risk).
Avatar f tn About two weeks ago my doctor and I decided that I should stop taking Chantix a few weeks early. I was and am having some strange swelling/water retention in one leg. We both thought the swelling, and other unsavory symptoms would stop when I stopped taking the drug. Instead things got worse. I haven't slept more than a couple of hours at a time in two weeks, my heart races, my skin felt strange, hot and like its extra thick. I would daydream of laying in a cold pond to cool it.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Avatar m tn I would stop using the Chantix immediately. If you want to quit, you will continue not smoking. Chantix doesn't always agree with those using it and it sounds as if you are one of those. I quit with Chantix too, but I did not have any side effects. I do know, through commercials, that there is a class action suit or they are attempting to put one together so I'm sure there is good reason for it! Stop immediately and call your doctor or go into the emergency room of your hospital.
Avatar f tn Once more, my father has had a few small heart attacks, I believe was diagnosed with heart disease and as of 2009 suffered heart attack that should have killed him. This is absolutely insane that with all that I know, I can't quit!!!! NRT's I think is a bad idea, replacing nicotine from a cigarette with other methods doesn't rid one of the desire to smoke. Anyone out there like me? If so, have you quit and how did you do it?
762919 tn?1234450210 I notice that since I have made this change my heart rate at rest and even after getiing up and beign active is down to 84 very normal range. My BP has been like 104/66 rather low. Then after I have a cig.. my heart rate goes up to like 98 or even as high as 100.. and bp rises a little bit. Has anyone else noticed this. My plan is to quit entirely here.. as I want to live. I'm wondering now if all of my issues could be related to the smoking?
444932 tn?1273980797 My adopted daughter was on prednisone for lupus for 5 years and YES it makes you puffy and probable weight gain, but have heart when she stopped the moon face went away, BUT she was on a LOT of prednisone. Keep being strong and hopefully you can get off the pred soon.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone,I have a progressive case of hepatitis C and want to use the drug Chantix to quit smoking and worried about the side affects.Does anyone have any knowledge of this drug interaction.
Avatar m tn I am on a very low dose of valium, which really has little effect and now my phyc dr is trying me on a hypertension medication. and I also have something they call silent reflux disease, which I never heard of, either you have reflux disease or not! but they call it silent due to the fact that I rarely have any type of indigestion at least until they started putting me on medications for it! Now I get indigestions and other stomach upsets every day!
147426 tn?1317265632 overweight, over age 55, a history of heart disease in her family, and a 40+ year history of SMOKING. Smoking is the most influential of all risk factors for AAA. The number of cigarettes and years smoked, and an increased depth of inhalation, signficantly impacts AAA prevalence and risk of rupture. She was typically asymptomatic, and the aneurysym was discovered incidentally during investigation for something else, not sure what. I think was detected by ultrasound.
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Thank you both so much I feel if i dont quit they will kill me as my bp wont seem to regulate yet and my heartrate isent right either and my doc had me on to much meds i know because today i cut back on them and im not having the heart arrithmias and my bp is in the normal range it was dropping to low and it dosent help my docs on vacation while im stuck trying to get the right amount of meds to keep my bp right,Iv been near tears all day because last night the heart irrithmias were so bad even
407029 tn?1253992623 I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it. If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where.
390388 tn?1279636213 I started taking the levothyroxine and chantix at the same time and got numbness and tingles in my chin. I stopped both at the same time and the tingles stopped. Started the levo at the direction of one of my docs and no wierd stuff. Also, there is a thread on here relating to chantix and thyroid issues do a search on chantix in the medhelp search. It is worth looking at before you get too deep in it and feel worse. Some of the thread mentioned chantix causing hypothyroid.
Avatar n tn t seem to quit for anything. Had been a 2 pack/day years ago. My dr perscribed me Chantix and I took and kept smoking, but the cravings got less and less until on Feb. 1, 2007 I took about 3 drags off a cig and put it out. That was the last one I had. Took the Chantix for a couple more weeks until the cravings were completely gone and I've been fine every since. You can take it up to 3 months.
Avatar m tn By the way, you can always tell that a drug is affecting brain neurotransmitters when you see those warnings they give out, as you do with Chantix, and they warn that they can cause suicidal and violent thoughts and the like. This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.
Avatar n tn i recently tried to quit smoking and my legs started to ache badly about 5 hours after my last cigarette, whenever i sat down for a few minutes at a time. is this normal or is it a sign of something bad? i looked up 'leg pain, smoking' and found out there's something called buerger's disease and i'm scared i might have it. i have never experienced pain of any kind before after not smoking for a while (much less after 5 hours).
Avatar f tn I saw my Dr right away and she confirmed there are no interactions between Chantix and Effexor. She felt that the nicotine withdrawls, combined with the side effects of the Chantix is what caused the severe anxiety.
Avatar f tn So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?
390388 tn?1279636213 Finally decided to go to the Dr. and get my heart checked and told her I am ready for the chantix. My health reports are not that great for my age of 41. I have smoked for 31 of those years. GEE I wonder why it came up COPD and Heart issues. Crazy part is I truly don't know if I'm ready. I took my first pill today and my stop day is on this Wed. (the day of my recheck Echocardiogram and SPECT stress test w/ EF.) Good incentive for 1st day to quit I thought.
