chantix

407029 tn?1253992623 does anyone know if chantix is hard on the liver? im taking it to stop smoking before TX? anyone knows of anyone who took it does it work?
729288 tn?1251254433 About 8 months prior to finding out I had HCV, I used Chantix to quit smoking. I got a little quesy from them so I always took it with food. Hmph... no wonder I gained 30 pds. LOL! I have now been smoke free for 13 months. But I was feeling so bad before quiting that I felt if I didn't quit I would die from smoking shortly. My eyes are so dry from tx that when I get around a cig it burns my eyes so bad. I am also short of breath from TX. I can't imagine doing tx and smoking.
Avatar m tn I would ask your doctor if it is metabolized in the liver or the kidneys - thats generally one of the ways we figure out what we can take or not. "CHANTIX should not be taken with other quit-smoking products. You may need a lower dose of CHANTIX if you have kidney problems or get dialysis." It looks to me like it's the kidneys but ask a doctor to be sure about that and any other problem we might not think about as patients.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar f tn My husband had lung cancer, which metatastised to brain, bone, spine, and liver, and emphysema. He passed away 2 years ago, which has added to my stress. I have treied to quit smoking several times in the past, to no avail. I know that is the biggie to do, but what else? I have educated myself on-line as much as I can, but there isn't a lot of info out there to help in practical matters. And no explanation of the difference between COPD and emphysema.......or are they the same?
Avatar n tn 4 years ago, my heart went out of rhythm and I had a virtual blackout. At the same time, I also started having psychological symptoms, especially chronic derealization. I don't have anxiety or panic attacks, I feel like something toxic is effecting my mind, like the psychological side effects of Chantix or a similar drug but it won't ever wear off. Now of course at first, I had no idea about any of these terms I'm throwing out, but this is where I am 4 years later.
1442059 tn?1340240952 class at a local university. The Chantix worked well for me and I laid it all down within two weeks. I quit taking the Chantix at that point and never picked up another cigarette. I didn't quit coffee (but I tried to slow it down) until I was treating. Within two weeks I couldn't stand the taste and stopped drinking it completely. It was nothing for me to down a full pot prior to my shower in the morning. I am 29 weeks in and I still am not smoking or drinking coffee.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Avatar n tn Did you stop taking the Chantix? A common side effect of this is nausea and with some people it becomes quite a problem when taking it. If you haven't stopped it, as long as you are sick, stop taking it and see if it makes a difference. If you have stopped taking it then I would suggest you see your family physician. It could be galldbladder attacks you are having. When nausea is coupled with abdominal pain, it is nothing to mess around with.
Avatar n tn For 17 months i am still undx will get tests back in a few days ...and i want to finally quit smoking but they want me to wait to fill the prescription until all my tests come back now im getting worried ...
Avatar n tn I also had petechia and and I dont remember the name of the other but it was like red streaked. A CBC was done and I had no platlets. I was then sent to a oncologist who in turn gave me platelets and a 500mg gammagard treatment. The next day went in and platelets up to 93. He also put me on predisone 100mg a week cutting down 10mg per week. Tuesday I went back in and platelets down to 15 so he ordered a chest, abdomin and pelvic ct along with another 500 mg gammard treatment.
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
380558 tn?1309042387 congrats on the 3 weeks tha in itself is a big accomplishment......i smoke and i was curious about chantix.....does it help with the cravings or?.....
Avatar n tn t seem to get anyone to commit yet that Chantix played apart in it, since my liver enzymes have always been normal until 5 months after beginning the Chantix...now,hmm can't remember, but the Dr didn't like the numbers..they were slightly abnormal I remember him saying. It has been a nearly 5 week process so far, between primary care physcian, ultrasound, results(polyp and sludge), Hida scan, 7/2/08, and now to surgeon the 9th.. any advice welcome....
Avatar m tn By the way, you can always tell that a drug is affecting brain neurotransmitters when you see those warnings they give out, as you do with Chantix, and they warn that they can cause suicidal and violent thoughts and the like. This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.
Avatar n tn i recently tried to quit smoking and my legs started to ache badly about 5 hours after my last cigarette, whenever i sat down for a few minutes at a time. is this normal or is it a sign of something bad? i looked up 'leg pain, smoking' and found out there's something called buerger's disease and i'm scared i might have it. i have never experienced pain of any kind before after not smoking for a while (much less after 5 hours).
Avatar f tn I saw my Dr right away and she confirmed there are no interactions between Chantix and Effexor. She felt that the nicotine withdrawls, combined with the side effects of the Chantix is what caused the severe anxiety.
Avatar f tn So your on both suboxone and chantix? Do you feel wierd or anything? Ive heard things about chantix like it causes nightmares and suicidle thoughts. Im kind of scared. Do you really feel good? How long have you been on suboxone?
Avatar f tn Not that I'm pro Chantix, but allow me to play devils advocate for a minute. When one contemplates quitting and then sets out to do it, there is a profound loss.....like losing your best friend, and we all have to deal with. I myself grieved long and hard. Could your depressed state be that you have finally come to terms with the fact that it is your time to quit? I used Chantix and mourned the loss but I also used it before it was linked to "possible" suicide.
Avatar f tn I started having cravings again and broke down and paid for a re fill. That first pill worked fast and really helped with any cravings. I will take it as needed for however long and try to always have some on hand.
543518 tn?1245322027 I had tried numerous things to help me quit, the patch, the gum, Welbutrin, and hypnosis. Chantix made it very easy for me and the benefits far outweighed any risk. Good luck to you! Mouse P.S.
596605 tn?1369946627 read a few more posts on Chantix side effects, and if you still feel that deep fatigue, I would quit the Chantix immediately!...and most especially if you have any kind of emotional issues (I don't mean to assume) as Chantix can exacerbate them. There are many other quit aids to choose from if Chantix turns out to be not right for you.
Avatar n tn I have a twin sister also used the chantix and is going through the exact same thing. We need help and do not know what to do - we seem to have the doctors stumped. PLEASE help.
Avatar m tn time and the amount of time that has elapsed since your use of Chantix. It has been almost 3 1/2 months for me and I am still getting urges and am still quick tempered, just not as often as before : ) I think we will always struggle, quitting is life altering especially if you have smoked for a long time (38 yrs. for me.) I know it will get easier and the cravings will only happen every once in a while and sometimes temper and irritability isn't about addiction but something else.
Avatar f tn My suggestion to you is try stopping the chantix and see how you feel. Then you could resume taking it if you feel the withdrawals and cravings come back really strong? Might want to ask a Doctor on that one just to be sure. As far as I know the headaches are part of the withdrawal and I have a bad one right now.
Avatar f tn The family doctor has finally agreed that these symptoms are negative effects of the chantix and he needs to go on anxiety med and see a counselor. I have read on other blogs that other users are still fighting symptoms after years off that drug. Has anyone else been fighting the effects of this awful drug? We are emotionally devastated to see what was once a strong, healthy, active young man turn into a bundle of nerves and anxiety.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I tried Chantix and had horrible nightmares and felt like I was crawling out of my skin during the day; terrible experience. I have recently quit smoking again (7 days now) with the help of the gum and was doing pretty well until last night and today. I feel agitated, depressed, exhausted but can't sleep and I don't want to be awake, anxiety (which always brings a little agoraphobia with it), weepy, rage, and just your basic rapid cycling fun.
