Chantix and drinking alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix and drinking alcohol

chantix

Avatar f tn Naltrexone blocks opiate receptors, and it is thought that alcohol causes release of endorphins and that is one reason for the addictive nature of alcohol. Curiously, naltrexone reduces cravings for alcohol, but does NOT reduce cravings for opiates! Chantix causes dopamine release in the brain; the main problem with the medication is that it can cause depression and even psychosis-- all temporarily, until the med is stopped.
Avatar m tn time and the amount of time that has elapsed since your use of Chantix. It has been almost 3 1/2 months for me and I am still getting urges and am still quick tempered, just not as often as before : ) I think we will always struggle, quitting is life altering especially if you have smoked for a long time (38 yrs. for me.) I know it will get easier and the cravings will only happen every once in a while and sometimes temper and irritability isn't about addiction but something else.
Avatar f tn I started having cravings again and broke down and paid for a re fill. That first pill worked fast and really helped with any cravings. I will take it as needed for however long and try to always have some on hand.
Avatar n tn Yes, alcohol abuse can cause your hands/palms to become red. It is due to lack of vitamins. No - you can't just take a supplement and keep on drinking and have it go away so don't be thinking that. You can take a supplement but you are just negating it if you keep on boozing. Taking chantix while consuming the amount of alcohol you do is dangerous!!! Did you honestly tell your doctor how much booze you were drinkin'???? Doubt it.
286124 tn?1214938528 Good question though. Do look into Chantix and Alcohol as a starting place...what you would do if you wanted to try it for alcohol or aome other substance is tell the Dr. you also smoke and want toi quit that too. That way he has a basis for writing the script....
1096641 tn?1271707225 m happy to hear that you put them down again, and yes, the craving can get to you, and you cannot beat yourself up but you might want to finish your chantix and then buy another and wean off them. I used Chantix and while taking them for a period of time I found that they really helped...no craves at all, I also realized that once I stopped, I had to deal with w/d, physical and emotional and that's when whyquit really helped me.
Avatar m tn However the thigns i quir fo so ong I have started again, smoking-drinking.
Avatar m tn I did not drink any more than I usually do, and I am no stranger to alcohol and can tolerate it very well at the worse of times. This time was even scarier than the first blackout. Is there any research done on the specific interactions between Zyban and Alcohol, even after cessation of the medication? Help please?
Avatar f tn I also had another bad reaction with Chantix on my last smoking day before my quit date. There was no warning about the dangers of consuming alcohol and Chantix but there should be. After this happened to me I found out I'm not the only one this happened to. -- I took my night time dose of Chantix and went out to a club with friends since it was my last day of smoking.

1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar m tn There is a term that is used widely when referencing the effects drinking alcohol when one has hep c. Drinking alcohol is the same as adding gas to a fire.Very compromising! These drugs are highly expensive and toxic, my recommendation is to respect that and give yourself every chance of possible SVR.
Avatar f tn I just found out I'm pregnant. I tested positive with a hpt. According to all the apps and my lmp I'm at least six weeks. Up until this point I've stopped drinking caffeine and alcohol. Avatar f tn m 34 yrs old, been diabetic for 12 yrs now... drinking alcohol will help shut down his kidney alot faster. is your friend on oral medications for his diabetes or insulin taking shots. It sound like he's in great denial about the diabetes all together and may want to get a good team of doctors, and nutristionist, and othe people together for support. But you have the need to be scared for your friend, i was in denial for almost 7 yrs.
Avatar m tn There is not likely to be a significant risk from combining a low dose of Wellbutrin with moderate drinking. The risk that does exist would relate to the fact that alcohol withdrawal tends to lower the seizure threshold and Wellbutrin does the same. And believe it or not, you experience mild alcohol withdrawal during the night after you drink more than two drinks of alcohol (hence the disrupted sleep). So, the risk depends on how much more than two drinks you have....
Avatar m tn By the way, you can always tell that a drug is affecting brain neurotransmitters when you see those warnings they give out, as you do with Chantix, and they warn that they can cause suicidal and violent thoughts and the like. This warning is a dead giveaway that the drug is affecting similar things that antidepressants and anti anxiety drugs and anti psychotics are playing around with.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you had a bad reaction to the alcohol, and having drank some more, you started to experience it briefly. Try not drinking for a few days and see if this goes away. Green stool means it passed too quickly thru your system. Also, re-hydrate after vomiting and diarrhea, by drinking water, orange juice, and Gatorade plus you can eat bananas to replenish your electrolytes.
Avatar f tn I dont think anyone should ever drink knowingly pregnant u just cant be sure (im not talking about ppl drinking before they know) ur body is not just urs anymore and drinking while bfing u can do but pumping and dumping does not get rid of the alcohol any faster u have a time frame that u cant feed baby in depending on ur alcohol intake

Avatar f tn At his office they have a supply of alcohol for the partners and if a client wants something. I forgot about that and actually I never thought he would do that. This is sounding less about the Lipitor.
Avatar n tn Yes it does. Drinking is linked with FASD (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) and they have yet to prove how much alcohol causes it. In the first few weeks is most important because all the organs and facial features are being determined. I WOULD NOT DRINK! It's not worth the risk.
Avatar n tn I was reading through all of your posts and how you guys are saying you are addicted. Well, my husband has got you beat as to the amounts of gum you are chewing. He has been on Nicorette 2 mg gum for 20 years after chewing tobacco for 15 years or so. He has never tapered off--fortunately, not gone to 4 mg either. The easiest way to tell you how much he chews is that in a week, he goes through 1 1/2 to 2 boxes. Each box contains 110 pcs.
Avatar m tn I have recently been approved by VA for a chantix prescription, and expect to start the cessation program within days. I've been told that a recent medical study indicates that a male of my age, 66, incurs decreased longevity by quitting smoking after 50 years addiction. can someone direct me to such a study, or advise if I've been misled?
