Chantix and heart attacks

Common Questions and Answers about Chantix and heart attacks

chantix

Avatar n tn 4 years ago, my heart went out of rhythm and I had a virtual blackout. At the same time, I also started having psychological symptoms, especially chronic derealization. I don't have anxiety or panic attacks, I feel like something toxic is effecting my mind, like the psychological side effects of Chantix or a similar drug but it won't ever wear off. Now of course at first, I had no idea about any of these terms I'm throwing out, but this is where I am 4 years later.
Avatar m tn Hi, You say your fiance took Chantix. There is a recent post on the smoking forum by *mariabl* who took Chantix and is having some similar issues. You may want to look up her post if not for anything other than comfort in knowing your fiance is not alone. mariabl also describes the heart pounding and constant headache. Maybe y'all could talk?
Avatar f tn I woke up one morning thats when it all started. I went into full blown panic attacks, anxiety attacks, and now to the point where it was driving me nuts. I was so not myself. I was having thoughts of wanting to hurt myself. I went to the hospital to get evaluated and it came to find out that chantix wasnt for me. I got dignoised )sp?) with depression/anxiety. so you might wanna reconsider taking the drug. I am not saying that what would happen to you if you were to take it.
Avatar f tn I went a couple of days without and when I get a craving that will not let go I will smoke a half of cig. Now my problem is when I smoke my heart starts to race and it brings on an attack. Has anyone else have this when trying to quit or anxiety just for smoking period? Any suggestions would be appreciated. My husband thinks I am just going nuts.
Avatar m tn i would def. get a second opinion. I went through the racing heart and the shakes and went to a doctor and was told that i needed to stop smoking. She put me through a bunch of lung tests and everything, only to be told "everything seems to be fine" then prescribed me chantix. to stop smoking! well i didn't take the chantix because i new something wasn't right!
Avatar n tn yes for chantix ..but they wont give me a prescription until all my other tests come back they told me that demtlying (i know i spelled it wrong) cannot be entitly excluded ...i had the spine vep ..
984138 tn?1359813073 DON"T DO CHANTIX. My son, 19, took chantix for 3 months and the research was not done on young people. He did quit smoking but at a great risk to his health. It has been 10 months of hell since he went off the med. While on the med he has mild side effects but after many blood tests, a positive ANA and anxiety/panic attacks - he is slowly getting healthy again. We did not do our homework and the result was a very sick young man.
Avatar m tn re suppose to make yourself believe that. Well, if you see your doctor and rule out strokes and heart attacks and insanity, if anxiety is the only card left in your hand, then maybe you'll believe it. Bottom line..............see your doctor. I'm sure you're fine, but I'M not the one that needs to believe that. Good luck with your quit! Just keep telling yourself that smoking is NOT an option!
Avatar f tn t until he went off Chantix that the anxiety and panic attacks began. We did not know what it was at that time and he has been getting blood work and seeing doctors for months now - finally the light went on when we started researching the side effects of chantix. He has not driven in over 2 weeks because he had one panic attack coming home from school that scared him badly. I don't know what to do for him except be supportive.
Avatar f tn I took chantix one for a month last march to quit, fell off the wagon and started it again last december and quit for good. Since then I have had Heart palpitations and speeding up,a constant headache that doesn't go away, dizziness, confusion, trouble breathing, and pain behind my eyes. I have had every test and they can find nothing.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar f tn Once more, my father has had a few small heart attacks, I believe was diagnosed with heart disease and as of 2009 suffered heart attack that should have killed him. This is absolutely insane that with all that I know, I can't quit!!!! NRT's I think is a bad idea, replacing nicotine from a cigarette with other methods doesn't rid one of the desire to smoke. Anyone out there like me? If so, have you quit and how did you do it?
380558 tn?1309042387 My Dad died a year and a half ago from heart disease. He went through chelation and ended up having open heart surgery. He was “doing fine” according to him and died in his sleep from a heart attack. Please be very careful who you listen to when it comes to taking care of your heart and vascular system. I wish he would have talked to me more and listened to GOOD advise.
729288 tn?1251254433 I will pay the $215 on monday for my shipment then I am waiting the 2 weeks suggested and beginning. Here is my question. I am also on chantix.. the stop smoking drug. I really need to stop because I think 27 years is long enough to smoke for anyone. Does anyone know if it will have any kind of reaction? My doc told me to go ahead it wouldnt hurt me.
Avatar f tn The reality is that these drugs - Chantix and antidepressants (which includes Zyban, which is the drug Buproprion also known as Wellbutrin) interact with our brain chemistry and Chantix has not been around long enough to have comprehensive and conclusive long term reasearch evidence (researches talk that basically means we don't know what we may find way down the road and all new Rx's have this risk).
Avatar f tn About two weeks ago my doctor and I decided that I should stop taking Chantix a few weeks early. I was and am having some strange swelling/water retention in one leg. We both thought the swelling, and other unsavory symptoms would stop when I stopped taking the drug. Instead things got worse. I haven't slept more than a couple of hours at a time in two weeks, my heart races, my skin felt strange, hot and like its extra thick. I would daydream of laying in a cold pond to cool it.
Avatar n tn Did you stop taking the Chantix? A common side effect of this is nausea and with some people it becomes quite a problem when taking it. If you haven't stopped it, as long as you are sick, stop taking it and see if it makes a difference. If you have stopped taking it then I would suggest you see your family physician. It could be galldbladder attacks you are having. When nausea is coupled with abdominal pain, it is nothing to mess around with.
Avatar m tn I have a question for those of you who used the Chantix to kick the cigarettes. I have smoked on and off for years, and I have quit several times for long periods of time, but this time I am in need of some sort of assistance doing it (the thought of no cigarettes is worse for me than the thought of no norco ever was). I don't want to spend any more money on cigarettes, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke, I always have, pretty weird for a smoker, huh?
Avatar m tn I would stop using the Chantix immediately. If you want to quit, you will continue not smoking. Chantix doesn't always agree with those using it and it sounds as if you are one of those. I quit with Chantix too, but I did not have any side effects. I do know, through commercials, that there is a class action suit or they are attempting to put one together so I'm sure there is good reason for it! Stop immediately and call your doctor or go into the emergency room of your hospital.
444932 tn?1273980797 My adopted daughter was on prednisone for lupus for 5 years and YES it makes you puffy and probable weight gain, but have heart when she stopped the moon face went away, BUT she was on a LOT of prednisone. Keep being strong and hopefully you can get off the pred soon.
Avatar m tn Hello everyone,I have a progressive case of hepatitis C and want to use the drug Chantix to quit smoking and worried about the side affects.Does anyone have any knowledge of this drug interaction.
444932 tn?1273980797 When I read on the Chantix quit line that if you failed the first time, to just keep taking your Chantix and set another quit date. So I did, and I will try, and maybe it will work, but I like what you did and can only hope that that is the way it will finally work for me too. That just little by little, over time, those urges WILL begin to fade and I can see that I'm smoking less and less and will just one day, like you say, "that's it!
Avatar f tn Certainly it's better if you cut down on the cigarettes. Ask your OB or RE to prescribe Chantix for you. I hear it's ok to take during pregnancy and it really helps with trying to quit smoking. Know you're not a lone if you can't quit, many women aren't able to completely quick during pregnancy and the baby turns out okay. I'm not endorsing it of course, just letting you know that you're not the only that's pregnant and could just cut back.
Avatar n tn Although Chantix does not contain any nicotine, it acts on nicotine receptors in the brain. This is how the drug works to help people stop smoking. By binding to nicotine receptors, it blocks the effects of nicotine at those sites, helping to prevent the pleasurable effects of smoking. However, Chantix doesn't just bind to nicotine receptors; it also acts a little bit like nicotine, which may help to prevent symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn Thank you both so much I feel if i dont quit they will kill me as my bp wont seem to regulate yet and my heartrate isent right either and my doc had me on to much meds i know because today i cut back on them and im not having the heart arrithmias and my bp is in the normal range it was dropping to low and it dosent help my docs on vacation while im stuck trying to get the right amount of meds to keep my bp right,Iv been near tears all day because last night the heart irrithmias were so bad even
407029 tn?1253992623 I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it. If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix. I had tried the patch, the gum, zyban and hypnosis in the past and got absolutely no where.
390388 tn?1279636213 I started taking the levothyroxine and chantix at the same time and got numbness and tingles in my chin. I stopped both at the same time and the tingles stopped. Started the levo at the direction of one of my docs and no wierd stuff. Also, there is a thread on here relating to chantix and thyroid issues do a search on chantix in the medhelp search. It is worth looking at before you get too deep in it and feel worse. Some of the thread mentioned chantix causing hypothyroid.
Avatar n tn t seem to quit for anything. Had been a 2 pack/day years ago. My dr perscribed me Chantix and I took and kept smoking, but the cravings got less and less until on Feb. 1, 2007 I took about 3 drags off a cig and put it out. That was the last one I had. Took the Chantix for a couple more weeks until the cravings were completely gone and I've been fine every since. You can take it up to 3 months.
