Common Questions and Answers about Celexa with pregnancy

celexa

Avatar f tn I am currently 26 years old, and have been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I was prescribed the anti depressant Celexa. Now, right now I have no plans of becoming pregnant, but I really do want to within the next 5 years. However, I am aware that I can not take Celexa while trying to conceive or during pregnancy. Does anyone know what my options will be when I want to conceive? Will I have to be weened off of the medicine, and stay off of it for the full 9 months?
763297 tn?1281379425 I have been on depression meds for 2 years and im TTC but I can't just quit them suddenly because of the terrible withdrawl I have experienced in the past. I could whean off but im on 20 mgs of Celexa and it might take a while. Should I stay on it if im pregnant? I don't know what to do. Any advice would be great!
Avatar f tn Part of your problem with missing a dose of the Celexa is that it throws you into withdrawal -- these meds need to be stopped slowly and carefully, tapering off. So before you get pregnant, stop the Celexa slowly so you don't have to rush. So that's first.
Avatar m tn The idea during the first pregnancy was to make it to the 3 month mark because prior to that is when the baby is forming everything. My OCD was so bad with the first pregnancy that I just went for it the second time around thinking that the benefits of meds did outweigh the harmful effects of OCD and anxiety. I wasn't eating, sleeping, etc during the first 3 months of the first pregnancy and so that certainly wasn't going to help the baby.
Avatar f tn I have TS and my husband and I saw an OB who specializes in high risk pregnancies before we started to try to conceive. I take 4 mg Orap and 60 mg Celexa. On meds, my tics are very minimal or gone, and off meds, I'm a wreck. The doctor said there is very little data on pregnancy and Orap, so he just didn't know. With Celexa I think he said there can be some respiratory issues with the baby after it's born.
202436 tn?1326474333 At the time (3 years ago) my doctor said that there was a recently released study on Celexa during pregnancy and that the results were very good. I believe one of the side effects was having a low birth weight and delivering a little early. It's hard to tell if it was the meds because I had other complications and did infact deliver 4 weeks early with a 4 lb baby. He was a little jittery off and on for the first 24 hours. After that he was perfectly fine.
Avatar f tn Thank you for sharing your experience with Celexa. I have a script. I haven't started it yet. I had a hard time with Zoloft & worried that I will have the same SE with Celexa. I am happy this med works so well for you. Hopefully it will do the same for me! As long as I have energy with no weight gain I will be super happy. And of course it helps with the anxiety. *anyone else have an experience with Celexa they want to share please do. Thanks!
1450728 tn?1292192822 I just found out I'm pregnant a week ago. I am six weeks today, with my third child. I suffer from PTSD, and I am currently taking Xanax 0.5mg twice daily. Since I found out, I tried taking it on a PRN basis...this was NOT helping me. My PCP put me on Celexa last week, 20mg daily. The Celexa seems to be making my anxiety worse! I cannot sleep and have panic attacks at night. My husband tries to get me to breath through the attacks, rubs my back, has me do deep breathing.
Avatar f tn You and your doctor will be able to come up with some alternative method to help with the depression or talk about the risks of celexa and how if affects your pregnancy. You will not be ok if do not, with the depression AND the pregnancy hormones, you will only feel worse. Seek medical help, for both you and your baby. Take care and keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Does anyone have experience with Celexa?
Avatar f tn Recently bought a few supplements from Innate response, it was Multivitamin, probiotics and Adrenal response. I take all supplements in the morning together with celexa. I´ve been eating the supplements for 3 days now and I feel a lot more energy but I feel upstressed some how, like the feeling when I had maxdose on Celexa. faster pulse, more quick with toughts. I´ve thinking if it interact with celexa?!? Or should I take the supplements to lunch/dinner instead of morning?
1539379 tn?1294332115 Well...it's time to get out of the bed, out of the house, and back to a normal life. Went to a psychiatrist today, and long story short, he put me on 40mg of celexa (20mg first week, 40mg thereafter). I've heard it's comparable to lexapro, which has gotten good reviews. Anything I should be on the look out for? Anyone have any experience with celexa...if so, how'd it work for you?
Avatar n tn This is not a side effect you would normally expect from that medication. There are many reasons for short-term memory problems the most prevalent being that your unconscious mind is preoccupied with something else and you aren't paying that kind of attention that you usually do. You can do something for yourself which is try to settle down within yourself, have a good conversation with yourself, and be in touch with your deeper feelings and your deeper concerns.
Avatar m tn I read some things that suggest Celexa could agravate someone who is Bi-Polar. Throughout life with her I have noticed periods where she would be up and down, she's crashed a few times and the Dr put her on Celexa for a few months and then took her off when she was back to normal, this time they decided to keep her on it. Maybe Bi-Polar is something to discuss.
686172 tn?1256839717 After 4 months of the meds, I found out I was expecting, happy and not worried about any of the side effects, I quit cold turkey as recommended by my OB, I felt good until month 6, all of my symptoms returned with a vengeance. My Ob recommended taking Celexa again, I refused.
Avatar f tn However, I am aware that I can not take Celexa while trying to conceive or during pregnancy. Does anyone know what my options will be when I want to conceive? Will I have to be weened off of the medicine, and stay off of it for the full 9 months? Is there a safe alternative to Celexa that I can take? Please help.
Avatar f tn I have taken celexa (for depression) through out my whole thing and I take kolonpin (for anxiety, as needed). The way my doc explained it was that my body, being depressed and having anxiety, needs to function "properly" and if I'm under stress the baby will be too. So I take the celexa daily and the kolonpin only as needed which isn't that often. But so far my baby girl is healthy and measuring very big! And all the tests we've done she's passed.
Avatar f tn My moods still swing, but no where near as bad as they were with Celexa. Also, with the Celexa, my mood would swing towards bad mania, which is the worst part of the disorder for me.
Avatar f tn Are there ANY anxiety/depression meds that are allowed to take during pregnancy?
Avatar f tn I take the Celexa for panic attacks and OCD so yes, I am an anxious person and withdrawal have made it 10x harder. I was worried about taking it with Celexa cause supposedly Rhodiola helps you produce more serotonin and dopamine, so I was afraid of serotonin syndrome or becoming more depressed from too much serotonin. I think Celexa is starting to work cause I am less erratic and not throwing tantrums while crying uncontrollably.
Avatar f tn Did you start taking Celexa again after delivery? If so, how long after, and if not, how have your symptoms been since no longer taking it?
Avatar f tn t know if I should get off celexa or just deal with these side affects.2 years ago I was on 10 mg of celexa along with. 05 of Xanax. and never had this kinda problems.
