Common Questions and Answers about Celexa vs citalopram

495402 tn?1220621003 Kraus and associates compared the effectiveness of citalopram vs placebo. In depressed patients, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores had increased significantly during antiviral treatment but decreased significantly within 4 weeks after initiation of SSRI treatment. Placebo patients showed no significant improvement in HADS scores. The study was terminated prematurely after a planned interim analysis showed a significant advantage for SSRI treatment.
Avatar m tn Both citalopram, (Celexa) and escitalopram, (Lexapro) are SSRI's and both have, as unlabeled uses the control of panic. They both also have CNS side effects of anxiety in the beginning stages of treatment. You say you've been on the citalopram for approximately 5 weeks? It can take up to 35 days for citalopram to reach "steady state" in your blood, which means you won't begin to feel any real relief from your depresson for possibly a bit over a month.
Avatar f tn I have been using generic Celexa (citolapram?) for about ten years for chronic pain. It seems to work quite well but I worry about the long term effect on my brain and my liver ( or others I am unaware of). I am prescribed a standard dose (20mg) and keep trying to lower it. I have gotten it down to 3/4 pill /day but when I go to 1/2 the neck pain seems to come back. Should I keep trying?
Avatar f tn 5 mg of effexor and 20 mg of celexa (citalopram) plus 5 mg twice a day of clonazepam. I have found that the clonazepam has helped a lot, although I have been feeling extremely tired. But at least I don't have a constant knot in my stomach or get panic attacks. I was on diazepam (aka valium) to help me reduce my dosage of effexor as I had bad withdrawal symptoms. The diazepam was temporary though, you're not supposed to be on it for more than a few weeks....
881463 tn?1245349249 Do any SSRI help with pain reduction? How is Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, Celexa vs Cymbalta in these regards? I am so confused with all tyhe med choices. I have picked up the Cymbalta at 1 tab 60 mg a day, but I want to make sure I should be on an snri as opposed to ssri prior to starting one. Is Cymbalta 60 mg dose safe to start? I have had some extensive tests to try & find a physical cause of my mid-back & chest pain/tight breathing sensations.
Avatar f tn I live in the UK and I take 40mg of citalopram daily (I think the USA call in celexa? ) and I've been told by my midwives it's safe for baby and to use during breastfeeding, but comes with a small risk of pulmonary hypertension.

Avatar f tn -- Most asthma and antidepressant agents are NOT known to prolong QT. I would avoid citalopram (celexa). Most importantly check with your doctors and inform them of your EKG finding. Make them aware of your ENTIRE medication list since oftentimes it is the drug-drug interactions that trigger QT prolongation and arrhythmia. 3) Is a prolonged qtc more concerning in someone with Morbitz I heart block than someone without?
Avatar f tn Does anyone take Citalopram? (which is just like lexapro). Just want to know if anyone had side effects or if it helped them in any way?? I am one of those who hates to take meds and doesn't unless Im way desperate!! I have a bad cold right now and won't even take anything for it, cept ibuprofen. :) I am afraid to take my anxiety meds!! I don't want to become dependent upon them. I get anxiety attacks on and off.. i can go two months without having one..
Avatar f tn Finally, is response to his behavior and the family history of depression, one of the serotonergic agents, such as fluoxetine (Prozac), citalopram (Celexa) or sertraline (Zoloft) might be useful. While the latest FDA warnings re: possible suicidal ideation or behavior are worthy of attention, they need not stand in the way of prescribing these medicines. The most significant guarantee of safe use is proper monitoring and follow-up in the hands of a child psychiatrist.
1503221 tn?1289588063 I live in New Zealand and we have different drug names, but for example I took Citalopram (aka Celexa) and it did nothing to my libido, whereas mirtazapine (aka Avanza) gave me some trouble (it went away later on though). Then there's fluoxetine etc. There is another whole class of anti-depressants, called tri-cyclics. You may react to them completely differently. The SSRIs are all different from each other, but not by nearly as much as they differ from tri-cyclics.
Avatar f tn They swapped my medications, from Venlafaxine HCL to Citalopram HBR thinking the side effect was causing my blood pressure to go up, then sent me home. I not only had withdrawals but the new medicine caused my Fibromyalgia to flair up significantly. Within one month I went to my heart doctor begging for Nortriptyline (something I used previously for Fibromyalgia) they prescribed it and it helped 50% but still my anxiety was bad, and other symptoms were present.
419309 tn?1326506891 My doctor started me on Citalopram (Celexa) a month before I started treatment. Once they kicked in, I noticed a big improvement in my mood so that by the time I started to treat I was already feeling a lot more optomistic about the future. I'm glad I started taking them early.
Avatar f tn He used the antidepressant Celexa (generic name is citalopram) and it just made a huge difference in his ability to cope with the side effects. We weaned him off too soon afterwards because the drugs took a long time to wear out of his system. My husband has never been a person to need antidepressants but the meds deplete your seratonin levels badly. The first treatment without an anti-d just about did in the whole family and was a trauma we would not want to repeat.
Avatar n tn It all comes down to calories in vs. calories out. Continue to monitor your food intake as you've been doing and exercise regularly.
190559 tn?1280615967 The trouble is, the stupid psychiatrist with 40+ years of experience didn't bother to read the family medical history and prescribed 20 mg. of Citalopram and .5 mg. of Lorazepam (as needed) 3-4 weeks before I insisted on checking the thyroid levels (her dad, older sister, and I all have hypothyroidism).
Avatar f tn I had a very similar reaction after taking one Celexa. It was the longest and most terrifying three days of my life. No one could do anything for me not even doctors. Unless a person has dealt with anxiety they have no idea how it can torture you day in and out. I'm on 25mg of Buspar daily and Ativan as needed. I've been struggling with horrible anxiety for six months now. Everytime I think I'm getting better I end up having an intense attack.
Avatar n tn She says it has helped in every way. I am currently taking Celexa, but that seems to have stopped working lately. Is anyone taking it for "anxiety"?
Avatar m tn Now my therapist thinks I might have Adult ADD as well, what do you know. I've taken citalopram and buspirone for depression and anxiety. As I said, my dad was both physically and emotionally abusive with me when I was a child. I'm 31 now and still do it, but only while I'm alone. My boyfriend doesn't know I do it, although sometimes he rocks while holding me when we go to sleep (very sweet). I'm rocking now as I do this!
Avatar m tn I do take meds for it but they are not working so I am going to switch back to Lexapro which was working better. I had to switch to citalopram for a while cuz I had no ins and you can get it for 7 bucks at walmart and you can't get Lex. But now I have ins so I am totally switching back. Anyway i just felt I needed to vent to try to get some reliefe which is working. I am going to try the scre* you panic attack way to see if that helps me.
551343 tn?1506834118 I started going to a therapist in January to try and get a handle on the bad feelings I was getting when my heart skips a beat. After 9 months with her I have decided to start an anti anxiety medicine Celexa. I have been on it for 2 1/2 weeks. I am hoping that will help with the anxietys of having all of this. I have an underactive thyroid and take synthroid and 12.5 mg of metroprol for heart pvc's Thanks to everyone for letting me tell my story.
