Avatar n tn About a half hour later, I started to crash....450 grams of carbs later, I got my sugar up to about 200. It settled down a little later to about 140. As an RN, I should know better to pull back on the syringe to check for blood return before injecting. I was in a hurry...and won't forget to do that again!
Avatar n tn Total CARBS minus fiber CARBS equals NET CARBS. Since fiber CARBS do not affect your glucose readings NET CARBS is more accurate for keeping track of intake. How do I know how many NET CARBS are in a food? Personally, I like caloriekingdotcom for looking up foods but you can also use a paperback book of foods w/nutritional analysis or read those government analysis labels on packaged goods. Decide on your personal goal for total daily intake of NET CARBS.
Avatar f tn ) anything you can suggest would be great. I eat protein in the morning and unfortunately sugar in the afternoon and usually veggies at night.
767148 tn?1257302551 I think because it has less than one carb per packet. When I was on the Atkins Diet 1 packet of Splenda was considered 1 net carb. And be careful if you get Stevia that it doesn't have anything added to it. A lot of them have Dextrose in them( to help with flavor) which is in Splenda.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
193609 tn?1292180293 Yeah counting carbs is a hard thing to follow because there are so many items from the food groups you have to stay away from. Honestly the best choice is to watch you fat content and calorie counting. Also just keep an eye on how much sugar and sodium is in the products you consume. Just because it's healthy or low fat doesnt me it should have a ton of sugar or salt in it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Carbs are in bread, pasta, veggies, etc. They are everywhere and they are good for you, complex carbs.
362249 tn?1441315018 s 5g of fiber or more in a food item, the grams of fiber get subtracted from the total amount of carbs in the food. For instance, fiberOne cereal has 13g fiber and 45g carbs. The 13g fiber gets subtracted from the 45g carbs, which equals out to 32g carbs total for the serving of FiberOne. (I can't remember exact amounts of fiber and carbs--so I guessed for this example).
Avatar f tn Did this person tell you to cut all carbs, or just simple carbs? Vegetables are carbs. Fruit are carbs. Whole grains are carbs. Beans are a combination of protein and carbs. I think what most would advise is to avoid white flour, bagels, sweets, anything that turns to sugar quickly in your system. That's why you're craving sugar -- carbs are necessary for energy, and sugar is quick energy but also stores as fat if not burned immediately. Same with processed carbs.
Avatar f tn It has to do with how the insulin your body produces reacts to the sugar you intake. The more sugar/carbs you intake the more insulin your body needs to produce to cover it. Try to cut back on the sweets and carbs, walk after meals until you can get tested.
Avatar f tn Healthy diet is high in unprocessed and minimally processed foods. This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Bad carbs could be considered those white carbs that break down quickly. This includes bread, white rice, cookies, candies etc.
269786 tn?1243793707 re on insulin the zinc is already in insulin. Type 2 diabetics tend to be low in zinc and can have sugar craving due to this, however, I am not positive how that might affect the non diabetic population yet. Haven't had time to research it :( Also, you might now care ot go to such an extreme, but avoiding refined foods would probably help as well as they tend to cause addictive behavior.
Avatar f tn Anything with carbs is going to spike your blood sugar. If your trying to stabilize blood sugar, I would recommend eating lots of protein and vegetables. As for carbs, choose the healthy carbs or brown rice and more slow digesting carbs. That way your blood sugar won't rise as high or fast. I'm type 1 diabetic and pregnant, so u have been testing blood sugar like crazy for a good amount of my life.
3060903 tn?1398565123 long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not. The only way for you to know is to test b4 eating [preprandial] and 2-3 hrs after eating [postprandial]. I's best to eat fruits prior to a workout. Your body will burn of glycogen as energy is needed. Also, eat fruits which are low in fructose such as melons and berries.
Avatar m tn Hi :) i'm on Diamicron 60mg i take 2 pills in the morning and i eat a small quantity of carbs always my BG don't raise more than 40-50 points after a meal i watch carefully the carbs that i'm taking and thanks for your time .
Avatar n tn Fiber can help keep your blood sugar stable. It slows your digestion, which allows for a more steady release of carbs into your bloodstream. Here's some advice from MedHelp.org and the Sugar Sense app on this topic. http://www.medhelp.org/diabetes/articles/Natures-Blood-Sugar-Secret/1822 You can find this in the app by going to the Health Guide from the menu in the upper left corner of the home screen, and toggling to the Eat Right section, then scrolling down.
Avatar f tn To control blood sugars you need to control carbs. Both amount and type. Carbs should mostly come from non-starchy veges. Fruits, grains, sugars should be portion controlled. Weight loss if you are overweight, and exercise are also very important for blood sugar control. At least 30 minutes of exercise once a day (or even better if you can make it longer or more than once a day), would help in controlling blood sugar.
330806 tn?1194882349 05 his sugar was 390 30 min later I had to take him back in he was breathing bad and was trying to vomit his sugar was 400 then at 1.5 it went to 381 then at almost 2hrs it hit 436 and at 3hrs was down to 220. This test scared the skin off me. My son didn't even look coherent. The doctor said he gave him 100g not the 75 g he wanted to but that either way his numbers are super high and he thinks yes he is Type 1..
Avatar n tn Avoid all processed and white carbs and fruits and stick to non-starchy veges and regular fat dairy for your carbs. This will help your blood sugar not to go so hihg. If you do eat grains they should be whole and in very small portions. What insulin do you take? If you are taking a mixed insulin you need to be very careful ith what you eat as you cannot adjust the insulin (I did that on my first pregnancy and it was very hard).
Avatar f tn she called me tonight to say that the result did not come out good... she said that there was a high amount of sugar in my urine.. i am a bit worried as i did not have this problem with my first pregnancy... does anyone know what this means???
213991 tn?1214273019 So idk but now that i think of it take out food is full of fast carbs that act like sugars so maybe i am craving sugar just a diffrent type :)
Avatar n tn Your higher end of your sugar readings are concerning and would in my opinion move you up in terms of care you need. If they stay up at 240, I'd even consider going the emergency route. Not to alarm you. But your health is of utmost important here. Another way to move around waiting is to call your ob and relay your numbers (the higher end). Are you on medication?
Avatar f tn Sugar is not just in sweets, candy, etc. Carbs play a part in your sugar intake and glucose levels.
Avatar n tn Google Glycemic Index [GI] and understand the difference between good carbs [complex] and bad carbs [simple]. Carbohydrates [simple carbs] that break down quickly during digestion and release sugar rapidly into the bloodstream have a high GI; carbohydrates that break down more slowly, releasing sugar more gradually into the bloodstream, have a low GI. As asok mentioned, watch the carbs. Carbs are wreak havoc to a t2 diabetics glucose level. 2.
