carb

193609 tn?1292180293 This is just my opinion here, but carbs are not the enemy when it comes to weight loss. At least they don't have to be. I've never been into the whole low carb craze and always knew it would be a way of life I would never be able to stick with for the rest of my life. Personally, I have anywhere in the mid to late 100's and sometimes even well into the low 200g carbs a day and have for the last year and a half and yet I've lost 165 lbs.
Avatar n tn The key is looking at portion size (how much carbs) and making sure that you eat fat, protein and carbs together to slow digestion and keep blood sugars stable.
Avatar f tn Make sure you keep everything clean- only use a towel once, wash all clothing, wash your hands alot and use paper towels to dry them. Stay away from sugar and carbs (even sugar in fruit) and that should help, along with treating the yeast. You can get medication from the doctor for treatment- or there are a few other options that are over the counter, but discuss which is best with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Read the book "The Blood Sugar Solution," Mark Hyman, MD. He's an MD and a diabetes researcher. He's got lots of good advise. Low carb does not mean any carb. That's a mistake some people make. Complex carbs are good for you. They have lots of nutrients the body needs. Experiment with you glucometer and see what foods help and which ones hurt. For example, some people do wonderfully on beans, but other people have problems. Be sure to eat a protein breakfast.
Avatar f tn I kept it diet controlled by eating no more than half q handful of wholegrain carbs per day.. lots of veg and protein ..and cutting out sugar. You should ask the doc or midwife for diet advice. I was reffered to a diabetic team and dietician. Will probably have it all again with this pregnancy. If you can't control it with diet alone they will pit you on metformin which is what I had for the last five weeks.
Avatar m tn Carbohydrates or carbs; are what is in food. It creates sugar. Bread and pasta are very big on turning into sugar. In order to watch what says "sugar free" you also need to look at how many carbs and sugar alcohol is in the food. That's a ***** loophole the manufacturers have. Do a calorie and carb counter to target what you need and meal plan. You're already exercising which is an excellent step to controlling your sugar level. Pay more attention to the car seat.
Avatar n tn Adjustment was then done in combination with close monitoring of blood sugars. Ie. I test blood sugar before eating, lets say it is 100. I then eat 45 g of carbs and inject 3 units of insulin before the meal. Test 2 hours after starting to eat and my blood sugar is 140 (my target is < 120 after eating). This tells me that the insulin was not enough. Next time I eat 45 g of carbs I will try 4 units of insulin).
Avatar f tn You need carbs to live. Look up how carbs help you and how they don't. Make sure you are taking prenatals as well!
Avatar f tn It has to do with how the insulin your body produces reacts to the sugar you intake. The more sugar/carbs you intake the more insulin your body needs to produce to cover it. Try to cut back on the sweets and carbs, walk after meals until you can get tested.
4569680 tn?1359580401 Carbs, particularly when their effect is not mitigated by proteins and other nutrients, are processed very rapidly by the body, which causes a spike and a subsequent drop in blood sugar. And as low blood sugar is a leading cause of arrhythmia, overconsumption of carbohydrates can easily be linked to these problems. Don't cut out carbs altogether, because your body still needs them, and they can be consumed in a way that will make your heart happy.

Avatar m tn Calories, Carbs, Blood Glucose anything that will help us keep control of our sugar levels and weight Thank you Rich0314
Avatar f tn Did this person tell you to cut all carbs, or just simple carbs? Vegetables are carbs. Fruit are carbs. Whole grains are carbs. Beans are a combination of protein and carbs. I think what most would advise is to avoid white flour, bagels, sweets, anything that turns to sugar quickly in your system. That's why you're craving sugar -- carbs are necessary for energy, and sugar is quick energy but also stores as fat if not burned immediately. Same with processed carbs.
1157811 tn?1263831494 Your sugar spikes and then crashes leaving you tired. Complex carbs give you a steady stream of sugar for energy and they last longer so you can make it to your next meal with more energy and not being as hungry.
Avatar f tn What should you eat to control type 2 Diabetes? What are "bad carbs" and what are "good carbs"? Thank you.
Avatar n tn If he currently takes 5 units of fast acting insulin to cover 40 grams of carbs, and his blood sugar rises too fast and stays high, the number of units needed to cover that food is likely too low. Work out any changes through your endocrinologist, to make sure that they agree. Exercise also helps lower blood sugar. Muscles need glucose in order to function, and the two things which deliver that glucose are insulin and adrenaline, and adrenaline is released during exercise.
Avatar n tn It is frustrating for that fasting morning BG to be higher than expected. I'm an RN and there is a phenomenon that can occur with people like us that have insulin resistance called the somogyi effect. This is where your liver will respond to a drop in your BG usually between 0200-0400 in the early morning hours and it releases glucose to counter the drop. Having a good high quality protein with a small amount of carbs before bedtime will sometimes help with this.
Avatar f tn Oh and a dietician will tell you to look at food lables especially carbs. The total carbs takes the starch sugar andall the blood sugar spiking things and lumps it into that one number. Higher the carb higher the blood sugars go.
Avatar m tn I just want to be safe rather than sorry and have to rush off to the emergency room and also it would give me some peace of mind that if something did happen i wouldnt have all my friends and family freaking out about me. Oh and if i can get it over the counter, what should i ask for and what cost am i looking at?
Avatar f tn I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on sugar intake and pain and/or sugar intake and cravings due to medications. I was fairly fit and a regular gym-goer and watched my diet about 90/10. I wasn't overly rigid, but I was careful. I noticed that at some point when my narcotic dosage got on the higher end, I started craving sugar. I never added sugar to coffee or tea and always drank diet soda, if any.
269786 tn?1243793707 Do not eat carbs alone, as this causes your blood sugar to spike too much and then crash. That crash is your carbs calling you the rest of the day! Protein helps to level out your blood sugar. What have you tried to do to get off of sugar? Are you meaning you are trying to get off of simple carbs? Have you ever read Sugar Busters (wondering because of the title of your post)?
