About 85-90% of my diet is unprocessed whole foods that I cook myself. I put myself on this diet in the spring and have lost 40 pounds. I am 5'6 and weighed over 180 pounds. Science has been saying that saturated fats(SF) can increase the risk of heart disease, though, lately that looks like it may not be as true as we all thought. However, for simplicity's sake, let's say it's still absolute that SF is bad for your heart. On the other hand monounsaturated(MUF) and polyunsaturated(PUF) fats are good for you and lower your LDL while raising your HDL.

Male Congratulations on the 45 lbs weight loss. Did you have trouble controlling your appetite on that small amount of food? I have recently been diagnosed with pre-diabetes, which could turn into full blown type II diabetes. I'm on a mission to lose about 23 lbs and so far, it's not going very well. You have to maintain your diet, in order to keep the weight off and to maintain your blood sugar levels. Carbs under 40 sounds extremely restrictive.

Avatar f tn My naturopath has me using Oregon Grape and Cascara Sagrada. I use the Oregon Grape with each meal according to the directions on the label. I use one cascara sagrada at night to prevent constipation, so I don't have to take so much MiraLax because I feel the same way about pharmaceuticals as you do. Another good thing to do is take dietary fiber everyday. I have been using flaxseed meal and inulin fiber for dietary fiber, since I'm intolerant to psyllium fiber, such as Metamucil.

It's my understanding you can subsitute some high fiber grams for carb grams, but I'm unsure how to do the calculations so I don't bother. If you like bread Nature's own has some low cal, low carb whole wheat with fiber,white and honey wheat bread.
Avatar f tn You may need insulin. Some people cannot control gestational diabetes with diet, even with their very best efforts. Yes, you can just keep cutting carbs . No grains. just non-starchy vegetables and plenty of healthy fats and protein. If you are doing your very best, then you need to discuss starting insulin. It makes things so much more manageable.
