Common Questions and Answers about Carb cycling vs

carb

Avatar m tn My guess is your blood sugar cycling up and down. Unless you take blood sugar measurements throughout the day, you will not know it, as one reading only does not tell the whole story. Have you noticed any pattern with what you eat and dizzy spells? For example, if you eat protein+fat breakfast (eggs, cheese, bacon, etc) versus a carb rich one (low fat muffin), you would likely feel better with protein+fat and otherwise dizzy with carb rich meal (which causes blood sugar cycling).
Avatar m tn I do 15 Mins of treadmill (avg 10 speed), 10mins of cycling followed by 5 mins of skipping (rope jumping) everyday. After that I do 1hr of weight training (single body pary) 5 days a week. Would this schedule help me lose weight. P.S I do follow a diet, but mostly I tend to binge eat once or twice a week max.
Avatar m tn Are you following a lower carb diet with your daughter? A high carb diet can make blood sugars very hard to control (and need lots of insulin). Low carb is safe for children and doesn't affect growth (it is the very high blood sugars that are not safe, and which restrict physical and mental development of children). If you are interested to know more about low carb and diabetes management, I can refer you to read Dr. Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
484167 tn?1210001396 anyone heard of this? about "cycling" calories and giving up on low fat/carb diets?
793305 tn?1493925518 For some people it makes a difference if they eat simple vs complex carbs, for example whole grain breads, brown rice, etc. For some it makes no difference at all, a carb is a carb. For all of us all forms of sugar jack up our blood sugar. The key as to what you can eat is to test, test, test. Try eating a favorite food and test two hours later. You want to be under 140. If you are higher than you can't eat that food or at least that portion of that food.
Avatar m tn rbc was 4.48 vs low end of 4.50, platelet at 144 vs low of 150 on range and 11 MPV vs. high range of 10...all other labs were fine...
Avatar f tn Hi, I am also trying to lose some weight, and it's just-stay healthy. I workout almost every day,or at least I try to do some walking or cycling when I don't have the time, and you need to watch your calories. But that's not it,tou have to make sure you get the good calories, not the empty ones that are in cookies and such. Women's health mag helps me a lot, too!
3060903 tn?1398565123 long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not. The only way for you to know is to test b4 eating [preprandial] and 2-3 hrs after eating [postprandial]. I's best to eat fruits prior to a workout. Your body will burn of glycogen as energy is needed. Also, eat fruits which are low in fructose such as melons and berries.
Avatar f tn your blood sugar may be cycling up and down, which may suggest eating a way that reduces the cycling. To do this, eat low carb diet, moderate protein and balance of calories from fat. Stabilizing your blood sugar will likely help the ups and downs you are experiencing after eating.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sugars are included with the total carbs but both need to be considered separately. Sugar is a simple carb that goes almost straight to the blood and if not used quickly enough will turn to fat; therefore, if you have something that has, say, 26 grams total carbs, with 25 grams of sugar and 1 gram of fiber, it would be best to pass that up - none of us (whether diabetic or not) needs that much sugar.
Avatar n tn For example, you can increase light exercise (walking/ cycling), make sure you eat light meals, drink a tall glass of water every hour throughout the day, use a natural stool softener or herbal colon cleanser capsule, and add more veggies/fruit to your diet. Stay away from heavy, carb laden foods and stimulant laxatives. If none of these suggestions seem to help, speak with your doctor for further advice.
Avatar n tn I exercise a lot, jog for 4 kms (non stop almost) 4 times a week, do weights, stretches, cycling etc, Have a well regulated diet. Fasting sugar always is below 110. PP was earlier 130. Have diabetics in hereditary. I am 5.3 in ht and weigh 64 kgs. What could be the reason ?
11754186 tn?1422644986 If it below 120 is good. Just remember to eat healthy and watch your carb intake. Eat more protein with your meals and exercise daily. I have gestational diabetes and must take insulin for the rest of my pregnancy. I say as long as you eat healthy and exercise you should be fine.
850029 tn?1238857820 I'm looking for suggestions. I am a personal care attendant for a young man with Autism. Actually, I do respite and he stays weekends with me every few weeks. I've known the young man and his family for 6 years. Every so often (6 months or so) the young man will seem to cycle like someone with Bipolor might. He seems to just loose all control of what he doing. I am so lucky that the kid is so well behaved that even at his worst, he actually pretty good.
193609 tn?1292180293 Well I think a low carb diet is anywhere from 25-50 carbs a day. I think depending on your weight now and height and with your activity level you have to check out what amount you need to start losing weight.
2053729 tn?1330435506 I have been watching what I eat following a high carb/low carb diet every other day. According to what I have researched, my BMR is 2485 and I eat about 1800 calories a day, so I should be losing weight just being me. Add in the approximate 2000 calories I burn with my exercise and I should be melting into a puddle! We do a lot of weights, pilates, abs, pushups, strength bands and squats at my aerobics class so I know my body is changing. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
Avatar f tn I have read the book, or at least most of it. But it sounded fishy to me too. The strict diets, having to take time off from work, guaifenesin.............didn't try it. If you find anyone who has, I would be interested in their response too. The best I've had any results with is Lyrica for the nerve pain. It does help me. I've gain a few lbs, but I also quit smoking, so not sure which was the cause . Low carb diets do seem to help with fatigue.
Avatar f tn Sounds like your girlfriend should adopt a low carb diet, in order to reduce incidences of blood sugar cycling up and down. The more stable the blood sugar level, the less cycling up and down, which is causing her to feel sick. It's hard to manage insulin and medications to counteract ingesting large amounts of carbohydrates. So, if she stops eating high amounts of carbs, less need to counteract with meds. Try a day in two low carb, and you will see the difference.
Avatar f tn I could tolerate cheerios after they softened in milk. Try eating small portions several times a day vs. meals. No fatty, fried, spicy foods. Hope she feels better soon.
Avatar n tn If you cannot find a carb listing on the label, then call the company that makes it and find out what its carb content is. By law, all U.S. made food products are supposed to list carb contents as well as other nutritional info. 4. The carb content of several major alcoholic beverages is available on several websites. Check this one out for info: http://www.vhi.ie/experts/diet/diet_q292.
Avatar m tn Barb, I was on low-carb diet for a long time, but recently I found out that for many people like me, eating a low-carb diet may weaken the thyroid or even cause hypothyroid. If you google "low carb diet and low thyroid", you will see that eating "safe" carbs like sweet potatoes or rice will help out your thyroid a lot. http://chriskresser.
Avatar n tn eat low carb and lots of exercise.
Avatar f tn You are obviously controlling your post-prandials (after meals) by eating so low carb, though that is hard to maintain. I think it's time to see your doctor, get a diagnosis and perhaps begin taking an oral med to help you control your blood sugar.

667913 tn?1242700488 the 100 calorie popcorn bags have helped me stop the carb crave during the days. Also, a deli meat slice in the AM inbetween bkfst and lunch vs. carbs as in chips has helped. I have not gained wt. but have gone up/down a bit since trying these methods .. it could be monthly fluctuations, too .. but nothing gained sounds good to me!
