1174347 tn?1380569370 Maybe the areas in my brain that are messed up from the TBI, are moving into other areas...who knows? I have read that one who has a TBI, can then also end up with MS...they are both neurological, right? I don't know much about MS...just trying to learn. Thanks!
Avatar n tn I had the same question about a year ago. My son has a TBI so I have been to many Doctors. A Nuerologist study's the brain. He is familiar with all the areas and the treatments. They do the evaluations. The Neusurgeon is the one that actually does the surgery's. He also knows the areas's of the brain and some treatments but his specalty is the actual surgury. Hope this helps...
Avatar m tn Are you following a lower carb diet with your daughter? A high carb diet can make blood sugars very hard to control (and need lots of insulin). Low carb is safe for children and doesn't affect growth (it is the very high blood sugars that are not safe, and which restrict physical and mental development of children). If you are interested to know more about low carb and diabetes management, I can refer you to read Dr. Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
793305 tn?1493925518 For some people it makes a difference if they eat simple vs complex carbs, for example whole grain breads, brown rice, etc. For some it makes no difference at all, a carb is a carb. For all of us all forms of sugar jack up our blood sugar. The key as to what you can eat is to test, test, test. Try eating a favorite food and test two hours later. You want to be under 140. If you are higher than you can't eat that food or at least that portion of that food.
Avatar m tn rbc was 4.48 vs low end of 4.50, platelet at 144 vs low of 150 on range and 11 MPV vs. high range of 10...all other labs were fine...
3060903 tn?1398565123 long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not. The only way for you to know is to test b4 eating [preprandial] and 2-3 hrs after eating [postprandial]. I's best to eat fruits prior to a workout. Your body will burn of glycogen as energy is needed. Also, eat fruits which are low in fructose such as melons and berries.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sugars are included with the total carbs but both need to be considered separately. Sugar is a simple carb that goes almost straight to the blood and if not used quickly enough will turn to fat; therefore, if you have something that has, say, 26 grams total carbs, with 25 grams of sugar and 1 gram of fiber, it would be best to pass that up - none of us (whether diabetic or not) needs that much sugar.
Avatar m tn If someone has a small cavernoma and is asymptomatic, received a mild TBI due to motor incident would this be the cause of the bleed? or is it purely genetic and going to happen regardless of the TBI??
Avatar f tn The combination of TBI and addiction is very difficult to treat. I do not know of specialized centers for that combination, but as both are unfortunately all too common, most large treatment centers or University-based programs would have experience with the combination. There are a few medications that reduce impulsive behavior to some extent-- primarily the atypical antipsychotics-- but they are not much of a match for opiate dependence.
Avatar m tn My question is a (simple) one so I suffered a TBI seven years ago what on earth would my liver have to do with any of this?
11754186 tn?1422644986 If it below 120 is good. Just remember to eat healthy and watch your carb intake. Eat more protein with your meals and exercise daily. I have gestational diabetes and must take insulin for the rest of my pregnancy. I say as long as you eat healthy and exercise you should be fine.
Avatar f tn Has anybody out there experienced a dramatic effect after being prescribed Amantadine for TBI? After a clipping of PCOM aneursym I became increasing fatigued and apathetic- to the point of being close to non-functional. Testing showed I now have a verbal learning deficit, but my MRI is normal. A neurologist decided to treat it as TBI and prescribed the Amantadine. He said it might improve my memory, but what actually happened was a huge change in perception and the disappearance of the fatigue.
Avatar m tn I suffered a TBI years ago. Currently on disability because of this. I have never exercised trying to improve energy, strength or emotions. But if you have a true TBI you know how hard motivation can be. Has someone started excercising and noted a difference.
Avatar n tn I am not on any depressant but reading more literature on tbi I need to at least join a tbi group in the community. I do have a very good support system of older children and friends and extened family. You are not alone. Keep your head up. Everyone has a story. It does get better. You can only pray and be productive. something which i am learning is not one of my strong points in frontal lobe tbi.
Avatar f tn If I almost hit my head in bus caused by speed changes of it, can it cause tbi? My bus driver is driving pretty bad, he always use brake and accelerate the bus. That makes me move my upper body and head throughout the way. Should I be concerned for TBI?

193609 tn?1292180293 Well I think a low carb diet is anywhere from 25-50 carbs a day. I think depending on your weight now and height and with your activity level you have to check out what amount you need to start losing weight.
Avatar n tn What did the teacher do for you while in the classroom after you suffered a TBI. The reason I ask this is because I am doing a report on TBI and I want to know since I am going to be a teacher one day. What can I do to help you the person who has the TBI. If there is something a teacher should know when they come in contact with a student that has a TBI let me know as well. Thanks for your time and understanding.
Avatar m tn I am 85% recovered from being ran over by a car on 11/14/2012. I suffered severe TBI. I had a brain seizure 1 year ago and had a brain shunt put in. Here you go. I can walk with no assistance. My brain works great. I started on 30 pills a day. I'm now down to 5 brain pills a day. I have actually lost weight. I work out everyday. Most of my TBI is on the right side. My problems are my left foot feels like it weighs 10 times more than the right.
