Avatar m tn Are you following a lower carb diet with your daughter? A high carb diet can make blood sugars very hard to control (and need lots of insulin). Low carb is safe for children and doesn't affect growth (it is the very high blood sugars that are not safe, and which restrict physical and mental development of children). If you are interested to know more about low carb and diabetes management, I can refer you to read Dr. Richard Bernstein "Diabetes Solutions".
793305 tn?1493925518 For some people it makes a difference if they eat simple vs complex carbs, for example whole grain breads, brown rice, etc. For some it makes no difference at all, a carb is a carb. For all of us all forms of sugar jack up our blood sugar. The key as to what you can eat is to test, test, test. Try eating a favorite food and test two hours later. You want to be under 140. If you are higher than you can't eat that food or at least that portion of that food.

3060903 tn?1398565123 long], however, contains 51 grams of carbs and 28 grams of carb sugar. Carbs turn into sugar after eating. Some diabetics can tolerate this amount of carbs and carb sugars while others not. The only way for you to know is to test b4 eating [preprandial] and 2-3 hrs after eating [postprandial]. I's best to eat fruits prior to a workout. Your body will burn of glycogen as energy is needed. Also, eat fruits which are low in fructose such as melons and berries.
362249 tn?1441315018 Sugars are included with the total carbs but both need to be considered separately. Sugar is a simple carb that goes almost straight to the blood and if not used quickly enough will turn to fat; therefore, if you have something that has, say, 26 grams total carbs, with 25 grams of sugar and 1 gram of fiber, it would be best to pass that up - none of us (whether diabetic or not) needs that much sugar.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone - a quick question... I'm 41 and after multiple miscarriages my husband and I have naturally conceived. Everything seems to be going well. except at our 12 week ultra sound the baby's NT was 2.3 ( the Dr said that is 'high normal" and at our 16 week ultra sound they think they found an EFI (white spot on the baby's heat - which some Dr''s think COULD be linked to an increased risk of Downs.

Avatar f tn You are obviously controlling your post-prandials (after meals) by eating so low carb, though that is hard to maintain. I think it's time to see your doctor, get a diagnosis and perhaps begin taking an oral med to help you control your blood sugar.
667913 tn?1242700488 the 100 calorie popcorn bags have helped me stop the carb crave during the days. Also, a deli meat slice in the AM inbetween bkfst and lunch vs. carbs as in chips has helped. Avatar f tn Obese adults followed one of the two diets for two years. Those on the low-carb diet had significantly higher cravings for carbohydrates and high-fat foods, although they were less bothered by hunger.
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar n tn I have read other articles that discuss more allergy issues with Humalog than with Novolog. But as LRS has written, each person is different, and there really IS no set standard that is perfect for each person. With this disease, some trial and error is absolutely necessary in order to discover what works best for the individual.
978175 tn?1304439383 You can help yourself in the meantime by lowering your simple carb intake, avoiding sugary foods and starches, and perform some sort of physical exercise daily. Discuss with your Endo or ask to speak with an diabetes nutritionist about diet plans.
Avatar n tn between bedtime and breakfast I am having a drop in BGs of around 10-13 mmols. and then in the mornings, after breakfast BGs shoot up, so my normal carb-insulin ratio doesnt work well. I cannot understand why this overnight drop is happening, which is becoming scary. I tested BGs during the night and there seems to be a drop of 2 mmol/hour. I am forced to go to bed with readings around 20, so that I will wake up with 7-8.
Avatar f tn t hurt if you are trying to keep your carb intake low. So, just make sure to count it into your carb allowance if you are following exchange lists (let me know if you don't know what I'm talking about and want some help with it or something). I am also on metformin, the same dose, but after awhile I seem to have gotten used to it and it no longer makes me sick unless I don't eat while taking it.
Avatar n tn Pre-pregnancy I had a history of high insulin levels in random blood tests as well as symptoms that corrolated to excess carb intake (dizziness, "foggy" brain, shaking, blacking out when going too long without food, etc), but when I was referred by my PCP to an endocrinologist he laughed and said there was no way someone with my body type was hypoglycemic (which he said was a myth aside from pre-diabetes), and so I must be imagining the symptoms. Fast-forward to pregnancy.
Avatar n tn And a shot of Humalog or Novolog before each meal. Doing this would minimise the carb/insulin mismatch when you skip a meal. The basal/bolus regimen would give you more flexibility and better control. You may want to discuss this with your doctor.
Avatar m tn ve been doing some research on the effects of saturated fats vs monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Science has been saying that saturated fats(SF) can increase the risk of heart disease, though, lately that looks like it may not be as true as we all thought. However, for simplicity's sake, let's say it's still absolute that SF is bad for your heart. On the other hand monounsaturated(MUF) and polyunsaturated(PUF) fats are good for you and lower your LDL while raising your HDL.
