Avatar f tn In a word... No... There are no scientific studies that show going gluten, dairy, sugar free, low carb, etc will lower your antibody count... While the antibodies may cause some inflammation/swelling of the thyroid, your main symptoms are actually the result of hypothyroidism, caused by reduced thyroid function, not from the antibodies themselves.
Avatar f tn How do I curb the carb cravings. I have tried to go with out toast, or bread, which is one of my weak points. but when I go with out I get so weak, I feel like Im going to pass out. So how much bread, carbs a day can I have. Or oatmeal and can I have both in one breakfast setting with peanutbutter and banana. Or is that to much carb, in one sitting?
Avatar n tn -) Rice in soups or casseroles-high carb. Pasta-high carb. Potatoes-high carb. Bread-high carb. Regular soda pop and fruit juices-high carb. Sugar is interesting-you can have your sugar and eat it too. If your dr tells you to eat less sugar you need to fire right back at him and say, don't you mean carbs? Do you know of anyone who sits and eats a cup of sugar? No. But I bet we have all eaten a cup of potatoes rice or pasta or bread....
Avatar f tn The first diet you could try to help control your symptoms is a gluten free diet. A gluten free diet is a diet free of wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats. A gluten intolerance (which is when someone doesn't have the enzymes or not enough enzymes to break down the gluten in the above foods) can cause all of your above symptoms - PCOS, RA, hypoglycemia, etc. It's easy to look this up on the internet.
Avatar f tn I go back next week for the 3 hour test. What are my chances of passing with a low carb and high protein diet with a number that high? Is there anything else I can do to avoid failing?
Avatar f tn At this time when I eat very little sugar, or higher carb cakes (I live gluten free life, but flours like white rice flour has high carbs, that I coud not avoid yet, but I'm working on it). So when I eat a self-baked gluten free biscuit with higher carb flours, I get this strange vibration. Like an earthquake inside me. What do you think, can this be a withdrawal symptom of sugar? I hope so, and just hope that it will go away when my body will adjust.
1094370 tn?1317134825 I previously was eating Fiber One cereal which works well for me but I am trying to go gluten free because of digestive issues. I have been tested and do not have celiacs but a holistic doctor said that I have an intolerance to gluten. Not sure if I believe it or not because I have cut gluten from my diet and do not notice any differences when I put it back in... Thanks and any advice on this powder would be appreciated!
Avatar m tn I would indulge in a smallish bowl of oatmeal in the morning and then stick to a low carb/high protein diet the rest of the day. And I would walk long distances daily, often with a 30lb pack. Suddenly that stubborn weight melted away in a mere two weeks. I lost more than a pound a day! (I know, "that's not safe" etc) And again, strangely, that low carb boot camp thing I went through seems to have reset my clock.
526889 tn?1212540641 For your age you need 1500 calories daily to safely lose weight. I would recommend a Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet. Moderate fat diet means = use polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar f tn Low carb diet will help her lose weight. It will also reduce her insulin requirements (so she needs to monitor carefully). There are many online links (you will need to search as I'm not allowed to post links here) if you google low carb and diabetes management. For an excellent book look for "diabetes solutions" by Dr. Richard Bernstein. I found that book revolutionised how I think about diabetes and how I manage it for myself (all for the better).
Avatar f tn Low carb no carb diet! It's perfectly safe.
Avatar f tn What do you eat for breakfast? I've been managing it with diet but I swear I eat the same things for breakfast all the time. The hospital I'm at recommends no fruit at breakfast (which is the hardest part for me), I'm not sure that's the same everywhere. I work 10 hr days usually breakfast is at 6 and I don't get lunch till 12; I do snack but I need a filling breakfast, I just need more ideas. Please don't reply if your not following the diet the way you should be.
Avatar f tn If you could completely cut all sugar and basically all grains and not overdo your fruit intake, you would be eating a perfect diet for GD. (and a really awesomely healthy diet in general!
Avatar m tn Barb, I was on low-carb diet for a long time, but recently I found out that for many people like me, eating a low-carb diet may weaken the thyroid or even cause hypothyroid. If you google "low carb diet and low thyroid", you will see that eating "safe" carbs like sweet potatoes or rice will help out your thyroid a lot. http://chriskresser.
Avatar m tn They need to control their blood sugar with changes to diet and exercise and often medication. Do you take any medications for your blood glucose? If you do not understand what changes you need to make, you should speak to your doctor about what is recommended for you specifically. Your doctor may have a sample diet menu or be able to recommend a nutritionist to help you understand the proper diet.
1290943 tn?1272093764 My daughter was diagnosed earlier this week and we are struggling with the carb counting still. She has her first endo appt on Monday but I feel like her numbers are all over the place. I felt a lot better about my 'abilities' to count carbs after reading about this Dawn Phenomenon.... anything else I should know? My biggest question is what to feed her in the morning. She SPIKES if she eats cereals (which she prefers) and I'm not crazy about all the sugar anyway.
Avatar f tn I have been trying to get my blood sugar down. I changed my diet to oatmeal and 5 strawberries for breakfast, salad for lunch, dry bran cereal for snack, Healthy Choice Meal for dinner, and slice of bread n peanut butter for bedtime snack to take with my janumet. Because Janumet makes me feel nausea. My blood sugars are running 308 this week and last night it drop to 219 and gave me a headache.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, it would be really difficult to do that, what with everyone having different restrictions (low sodium, low carb, low sugar, sugar free, lactose intolerance, gluten free, etc.), allergies, taste preferences, cooking skills, and the like. Perhaps visiting with a nutritionist would benefit you, so your diet can be personally tailored to you and your needs. I'm sorry we can't be of more service.
Avatar n tn I personally eat a Ketogenic diet of 20g or less net carbs a day. Most of my diet comes from meat, cheese and non-starchy vegetables. The high levels of fat in my diet help keep me satiated and promotes weight loss. I also tend to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as possible. I eat gluten free and grain free.
Avatar n tn Hi Newtoit, I'm a volunteer here and I've had Type 1 diabetes for over 11 years. It must be a difficult and a bit confusing time for your family right now, dealing with your newly diagnosed diabetic child, but it's wonderful that in such a short time you have managed to gather a lot of vital information. Having diabetes or caring for someone who has it is an ongoing learning process. Just keep that in mind whenever you feel frustrated, because we all go through it.
