Avatar m tn I had been prescribed a supplement for the treatment of acne and the salts in that supplement contain myo -inositol, D-Chiron Inositol, Chromium and Vitamin D3 and I have been taking these for 3 months now. I haven't been diagnosed with any PCOS or hormonal imbalance in my reports. Is it safe to take these supplements without any side effects as i read on internet these supplements are used for PCOS treatment mainly.
1975145 tn?1419909636 Chromium. A trace element that plays a role in blood sugar regulation, chromium works with insulin to help transport glucose into cells. Take up to 1,000 micrograms of "GTF" chromium daily. Alpha-lipoic acid. This antioxidant can enhance glucose uptake, inhibit glycation (a sugar-protein link that can damage small blood vessels), and help promote and maintain eye health. Start with 100 mg a day. Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant which may help maintain a healthy heart.
Avatar n tn She has only been on insulin and low carb diet for a coupe weeks but her blood glucose levels have been consistently good. I know this may change, and several people (mostly Type 11 patients) have told me giving her Vitamin B12 and chromium would help. My question s are has anyone here tried those supplements or others? How did your physician feel about it? and are nutraceutical supplements safe for a child as young as mine?
1441125 tn?1284071885 What is important, though, is to make sure in addition to taking the Metformin, you lower your carb intake, lose weight if needed, and get regular exercise. Those things will help your blood sugar a lot more than cinnamon!
Avatar f tn Meaning for morning meals, I only consume 6 grams of Carb, and at lunchs and dinners meals, I allow myself only 12 grams of Carb. These days I can buy such low-carb foods, made by the Tortilla Factory, tortillas with such low-carb at Wal-mart. This rule invented by Dr. Richard Bernstein, author of this book :Diabetes Solutions". You can log onto amazon .com to read reviews of this book. The rule is very SIMPLE: to stablize the blood sugar, I always try to LOWER my carb intake.
704655 tn?1228685706 If the PCOS has made you gain weight already, a low carb diet can help you lose weight and control the other symptoms that come with PCOS. It's hard, but it helps. Good luck.
Avatar n tn The answer is yes. If you do so, you may require a little less insulin. The thing is some diabetics respond to chromium and some don't. The reasons for this are unclear. The Chromium sold in healthfood stores as Chromium (GTF) glucose tolerance factor is my recommendation. The same time each day eary in the morning is best, at least in the beginning. That way you will be up and about to moniter glucose levels. Waverider has the right info.
Avatar f tn The following is a brief on Chromium and is not intended to agree or disagree with the poster. I'm glad to read that Chromium has done wonders for her mother. Although I edited the material to a minimum, I apologize in advance for its lengthiness. Avatar n tn I have heard that celiac patients may lack chromium as they eat no wheat. How do we know if she is lacking chromium? Would taking chromium picolinate help with insulin absorption? What are the symptoms of low chromium levels, and what are the risks of too much chromium. My pharmacist and diabetic educator says that we need to be careful not to get too much chromium, but could not tell me much more than this. She is 11,and insulin dosages have risen in the last 3 yrs.
451075 tn?1210258648 The thing is, if you go back to your regular way of eating, chances are very good you will regain those 4-5 pounds in no time. I love eating low-carb. I've done it on and off for several years. It keeps me away from things that 'sound' healthy for me, like whole wheat crackers, which I might as well staple to my belly for all the good they do me! I recently had my cholesterol checked and my numbers were terrific. And I actually feel better eating low-carb!
494640 tn?1262737989 they put me on metformin and we used fertility meds as well which worked.. but before metformin i did a very low carb diet, esp the first two weeks of the cycle.... i do have regular cycles and am not overweight, but the low carb diet did seem to help some - i basically tried to keep my sugars stable all day long just like metformin does.. GOOD LUCK!!!

Avatar n tn You can start taking chromium picolinate chromium helps regulate your metabolism you can get it from you local whole wheatery.
Avatar n tn It is usually controlled with a change in eating habits (only high protein/fat food at night, no carbs after 6 PM) and often Chromium picolinate, a metabolic and blood sugar regulator, is recommended. In severe cases, the carbohydrate intake is limited to just vegetable and gluten-containing foods (potatoes, wheat, oatmeal, etc) are severely restricted or eliminated all together.
Avatar m tn all illnesses have been ruled out for casing nerve problems please can you assist did the very high levels of chromium in his blood cause the nerve damage?? as I have heard that chromium leaves the body as Creatinine ...standard urine tests for Chromium VI look for Creatinine levels??? could that have caused a short term diabetic crisis that destroyed his nervous system??? or could there have been arsenic and lead in the paints that hurt him so badly???
Avatar m tn High chromium indicates the loss of chromium through hair. it can be due to mineral imbalance. Biounavailabilty of chromium usually indicates a disrupted cell renewal process leading to subsequent hair loss. It also indicates depleted energy levels. Manganese: This indicates manganese toxicity possibly du to drinking water contamination. This might lead to iron deficiency in future. Usage of hair dyes also gives a false indication of high manganese content.
Avatar n tn Some of these are waiting too long between meals, exercise which burns up sugars in the body and speeds up metabolism (and also insulin production), eating foods very high in carbohydrates (which overstimulate the pancreas and cause a hypoglycemic episode shortly after eating the high-carb food, or even in the case of one close friend, taking vitamins containing chromium triggered hypoglycemic episodes until the vitamins were stopped.
Avatar f tn Snacking on nuts before bedtime is OK but read the nutrition label carefully. Like yogurt and other carb laden snacks mfg's add sugar for flavor. This can come in refined sugar, cane sugar, corn syrup, or carb sugar, etc. Carb sugar means every 7 grams equals one heaping Tablespoon of refined sugar [nasty]. In reality there really isn't a need for late night snacking as you're only satisfying a mental craving.
