Can antibiotics cause swelling

Common Questions and Answers about Can antibiotics cause swelling

Avatar f tn Don't stress yourself cause it can be more harmful than anything. If it's on the safe list then I'm sure you are fine to take it. With all medicines there are a small amount of risks or side effects that can happen. If they do happen just discontinue taking the meds. I personally think you will be just fine, try not to over think things and get anxious about it. It's bad for you and baby.
Avatar n tn Not only did it cause pain and swelling, but it also caused a bit of vertigo. I was treated with antibiotics. The times that the swelling and pain came on very rapidly, it turned out that I had some very small glands inside the sides of my mouth that were blocked. The doctor ran a very tiny instrument in and out of the glands so whatever was blocking them drained off. The pain and swelling subsided about as quickly as it started. Good luck to Mom!!
Avatar m tn The swelling is bad. If it continues to swell, thats a really bad sign. Give the antibiotics another day or so to work and see if the swelling stops or shrinks. If it continues to get bigger or it starts giving you problems such as swelling into the neck area or closing up your eye.
Avatar m tn What can cause swelling of feet and ankles? My husband has had swelling of his legs from his shin down with pitting for several weeks. Doctors have tried discontinuing his medication and have placed him on antibiotics, but nothing seems to be working? Anyone have any thoughts?
Avatar m tn if its been more than a week since you finished your antibiotics you can return to have your prostate checked to see if swelling went down as well as they can check you for a fungal infection too.
Avatar n tn My doctor gave me a trick to get out of a severe antibiotic anxiety attack. Use a bicarbonate buffering agent (NOT baking soda though) that has calcium, magnesium, & a little potassium in it. It reduces the effect of the antibiotic, and that can help bring you out of anxiety almost immediatly. The anxiety will return when the antibiotic builds up in your blood again.
Avatar m tn Since most of your test results pointed towards 'a healthy' heart, I would be optimistic that perhaps antibiotics or other treatment would help. When we fear heart trouble, it can truly cause anxiety. I hope that you can relax somewhat and wait until further info comes in. Hopefully your only heart issues are your heartrate ( brady/tachy), and the coated PM takes care of that, and Dr's resolve possible infection. Good luck, and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Those seemed to work until suddenly his hands started swelling up and he had to stop taking them- even though he's not allergic to penicillin and has never had problems with antibiotics before. We got him on some different antibiotics and the hand swelling went away- meanwhile his eye ended up swelling so much it burst. And then before that had healed, while he was still on antibiotics, the other eye started swelling up.
Avatar f tn Regarding any effect from the antibiotic. There is some evidence that antibiotic can affect thyroid gland function and cause lower thyroid levels, but a lot of your thyroid hormone is coming from the med now. As for affecting the test itself I found this: "Other medications can interfere with thyroid laboratory measurements, but not with the actual functioning of the thyroid.
Avatar n tn I saw my OBGYN and she felt it was due to some kind of infection and prescribed antibiotics. After 2 days on them the swelling had gone down and tenderness was gone. I was so relieved. Today, however, (the 3rd day on antibiotics) the swelling is back a bit and the tenderness is back although not as tender as before. This whole episode is scary to me because I had a (very small) squamous cell carcinoma skin cancer 13 months ago.
Avatar f tn Is there anything I can do for a tooth infection at home to reduce swelling? My dentist can't get me in for a month and a half and this pain and swelling is really starting to annoy me. Only thing that seems to help for a few moments is something that is ice cold and it doesn't reach up into my cheek area that is swollen and the pressure building from the swelling is getting to be bothersome.
Avatar f tn Swelling gum means you have gum problem or what we call gingivitis... poor oral hygiene cause gingivitis, but in your case, if the crown was bad, like overhanged or undersized there would be a problem, cause this crown may harbor bacteria in the gingival line (gum line) which cause inflammation of the gingiva (gum). The treatment for your case may be replacement of the crown plus proper oral hygiene...
Avatar m tn What **side effects** can this medication cause? Co-trimoxazole may cause side effects.
Avatar n tn My question is that a unknown insect bite on my right foot near the fingers one week ago.I try in bestest hospital of our city but my swelling is exceeding day by day so give me your opinion. very thankfull to u. i am 16 years old male Pakistan.
Avatar n tn 30 days of antibiotic may not be a sound practice. With regards the cause of this redness and swelling, I would also agree that this may really be an infection. Even without an obvious cause or predisposition, infections do occur in these areas which can result from minor trauma to the nipple which a person would usually not notice. Also, the nipple and areola contains several glands similar to the sweat glands of the face which can indeed develop infections.
Avatar f tn A complete medical history and tests like urine examination; ultrasound can help in determining the exact cause. You will need an ultrasound scan to determine if there are kidney stones or any of the causes mentioned above. You are not finding any relief in your symptoms so it is best to contact your doctor and clarify your doubts. The doctor may need to review your case again. Treatment will be specific based on the cause. Keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I wanted to know if excessive use of antibiotics would cause further disruption of any kind in the bowel considering my case. Thank you very much!

If you need help finding one, let us know and we'll send you some data on how to do that search. Don't despair!
Avatar n tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Sinusitis involving the frontal and maxillary sinus can cause facial swelling that goes down with antibiotics. If the sinuses are really filled with a lot of fluid, it would need to be drained. The swelling could also be due to water retention as in low protein in blood, kidney problems, severe anemia etc. It could be due to hypothyroidism too (however your daughter may have had several tests).
Avatar n tn She told me after that she done an oophorectomy. That was 4 days ago and I have major bloating/swelling and feel fatigued if I stand for more than a few minutes, I also have a yeast infection from all the antibiotics. Normally I recoop very well after a surgery (I no longer have anything to take least I hope not!) Can anyone tell me if it's normal how I am feeling?
Avatar f tn A few days ago my boyfriend and I had intercourse and my right labia swelled up like a balloon. The next day I went to an urgent care and the doctor said it was because of the friction and lack of "wetness". It's been 2 days now and the swelling is still pretty bad. The doctor prescribed me medication for the swelling and I've been taking it, yet I don't see anything helping. What else could I do to get rid of the swelling?
1712590 tn?1352396372 My uvula swells and I get bumps on back of throat and redness. What can cause this? I am afraid one day I won't be able to breathe. I take Benadryl or diphehydramine when mine swells because that is what the ER pumped through me when my uvula swelled the first time. I am still having it swell 5 times in 3 years. This last time was not a allergic reaction to meds.

Avatar f tn We took him to the vet and as we were waiting, we noticed a hard swelling in the left side of the neck (~3,5 cm in diameter), that for sure wasn't there the day before. The vet confirmed that he had fever (39,7C). The vet suspected that it was a trauma and it developed an abscess. They gave him three shots (antibiotics and anti-inflammatory). The next day the swelling seemed to be reduced a little, he ate and drunk water.
Avatar n tn In her life, she's probably been on at least 10-12 antibiotics if not more and I know they can cause yeast problems. But, she's shown no signs ever of yeast infections but she's not been tested either because as the doctor said...there are no obvious signs of a yeast infection. I can tell you that I think you're probably swollen from scratching, as the same thing has happened to my daughter. We've gone to two different pediatricians who tested her urine and found absolutely nothing wrong.
Avatar f tn I know they didnt see anything on the x-ray, this is because I think it is a gum infection cause by the roughness of the crown placement. I can not find anything online that wouldn't suggest that having a boil will foul smelling discharge is NOT an infection. Should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn She said the CT scan didn't show any lumps of any sort, she said it didn't even show any swelling which from touch you can easily feel that it's swollen. So they sent me home with nothing and said if it's still swollen next week to call my regular doctor or come back. She did ask about food allergies. Im 29 and have never had any food allergies. Pollen and perfume smells make my sinuses act up and I have known that for years. Anyone with similar experience have it be allergies?
