Common Questions and Answers about Can antibiotics cause ringworm

antibiotics

Avatar f tn Definitely not ringworm! It's been brought up before, here's a link to a Medhelp question: http://www.medhelp.org/forums/dermatology/messages/30880.html As pointed out before, antibiotics cause yeast infections, they don't help cure at all. Your dr can treat the yeast and eyelid problems, I know it's stressfull, but that's the quickest way to get help.
Avatar n tn Basically I am looking for a second opinion from someone who has seen tinea causing folliculitis before and knows when it is advised to start on oral antifungals. Also I would like to know what kinds of tests can be made to establish the cause of my folliculitis, so that I dont take unneccesary antifungals/antibiotics. It could for example be mrsa too, which I have had before but not in the follicles, just the regular kind.
Avatar n tn Ringworm and Lyme are the two best candidates. A Lyme rash does not always look like a bulls eye. It can be a plain flat, slightly warm area that is defined, or has irregular edges. It can also have raised bumps in the middle. If it isn't ringworm, get antibiotics right away. Don't accept a "wait and see if Lyme symptoms show up" approach, as not everyone gets the typical symptoms. You want to kill it now, while it is easy, not wait until later when it is difficult.
1733413 tn?1311631311 I do not think this is ringworm or scabies. I think you need to call the doctor and have her seen tomorrow.
Avatar n tn s like a bunch of little white heads on 1 flat bump. I thought this was ringworm, but jeez i keep my stuff extremely clean, seems impossible. So now i'm noticing theres one on my arm, forearm, side of my stomach it comes on my leg (and one in an unmentionable place) I'm not understanding what this is, my kids keep on getting these infestations on their body also.
Avatar n tn Hi It may be very difficult to assess your problem with so less information. However, there are many conditions that can result in localized random hair loss in male as well as females, such as alopecia areata, scarring alopecia, infections like ringworm, folliculitis, piedra, seborrheic dermatitis and folliculitis. Alopecia areata is a genetic condition which causes sudden round patches on the scalp along with inflammation of the roots of the hair follicles.
Avatar n tn In your situation, I would take periodic photos (daily) and see an MD as soon as possible, because if Lyme is treated quickly, it can be a quick cure with a short course of antibiotics. If you go to an MD who says 'let's wait and see if your symptoms increase', then I'd (1) beg for antibiotics and (2) find another MD. So many LLMDs are backed up that seeing one quickly is sometimes difficult, but don't wait. I wouldn't.
Avatar f tn Just so you know, people can get ringworm, too. It can be transmitted from cats to people and vice versa.
390388 tn?1279636213 Here's another thought......maybe the kittens need to be fed separately, if they aren't already. If both kittens are being fed together, maybe the balding one isn't getting enough food because the other one is eating her food, too.
Avatar m tn Sometimes, even the bathing in the Epsom Salts, Dermol 600 and other herbal oils does not stop it. Problem is also when being put on antibiotics for bacterial infections can also encourage yeast growth. I am now eating more natural yogurt and sauerkraut cabbage. Oh, the joys of life.
Avatar f tn s a red patch, whatever caused it in the first place he now doubtless has a bacterial infection (maybe cause by the scratching). He should get to the doctor and at least get a series of antibiotics. The doc can do testing for various things (yeast infection, fungal infection, bacterial infection, STDs, etc.
541150 tn?1306033843 I would bet it is ringworm. It is very contagious!!!!
Avatar n tn My 17 month old daughter has a rash on the upper cheek of her face that has been there for over 4 months now. When she gets sick and has to take antibiotics, it starts to go away...almost to the point of non-existence depending on the regimen; however, as soon as she stops taking the antibiotics, the rash starts to come back. It looks similar to mild diaper rash and is about the size of a quarter. Sometimes looks a little crusty and sometimes not.
Avatar f tn t listen to me. So guess what happened he gave it to me... Accept not on my feet. I have ringworm on my breasts. And nothing is helping I've yet to try bleach but the needle like pain from my nipples from leaking and rib pain a scratchy burning nasty looking ringworm on my chest is the last thing in my pregnancy that I want to deal with. :( it makes me want to cry. So are their any suggestions out there that could help me. The doctors here don't really seem to care much.
Avatar n tn Circular lesions with crust in them sound to me like ringworm. Be VERY careful, as this is HIGHLY contagious and can be passed to the humans before you know it. It's easy enough to tell whether or not it's ringworm. Make an appointment at your vet's, and he will look at the lesions with a Wood's Lamp. If it's ringworm, which, by the way, is a fungus and not an actual worm, it will glow a bright fluorescent apple green.
Avatar m tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be nummular dermatitis or ringworm. Nummular dermatitis is a sort of eczema and ringworm is due to fungal infection. The painful bumps can be due to infected hair follicles, boils or abscess. Apply warm compresses on the boil and keep the area clean.Drainage of the boil is done only when it becomes soft and forms a head.Take some over the counter pain reliever and consult a doctor for examination and antibiotics prescription.
Avatar f tn Heck yes it can be ringworm. Ringworm can cause folliculitis and present like this, especially early stages of it, or certain strains. Try applying an OTC anti-fungal ointment on the boils (clotrimazole `% twice daily or terbinafine once daily). If it's ringworm, you will see marked improvement after 1-2 days. You should keep applying the cream for the full treatment period though to make sure all the spores are gone. Run all clothes and bedlinens through a HOT dryer.
