Can antibiotics cause tooth decay

Common Questions and Answers about Can antibiotics cause tooth decay

antibiotics

Avatar m tn ve been reading he may have caused the nerve damage to begin with because of trauma from his removal of decay and overheating the tooth. He has me on two antibiotics but says root canals will have to be done. The original dentist, the very expensive one said none will be needed. Did this inexpensive dentist cause this? Could he have?
Avatar m tn I've had a deep tooth decay for around 1 year. In the early stages of the decay there were the usualy symptoms, Pus/Swollen Gums/etc. After a while. The symptoms subsided and my gums started to develope a hard lump (no pain). After getting the infected tooth extracted and taking antibiotics. The hard lump decreased drastically (but never completely went away). Now a month after the extraction. One day I was pushing on (whats left of the lump) and playing with it.
Avatar f tn whats tooth decay and what can happen
600904 tn?1226321997 More than that (I have no pain) I worry about the decay bacteria entering the bloodstream and hence the placenta, and harming the baby. I have heard that dental decay can cause a miscarriage. I am 9 weeks pregnant and couldn't handle losing the baby. Any advice?
Avatar n tn if you have serious decay in an adjacent tooth. Antibiotics and super brushing aren't going to cure it.Plus your mouth is filled with million types of organisms. You can have a tooth decay problem caused by one type of bacteria and a gum problem caused by a different bacteria. The same antibiotic will not work as effectively for one than for the other. Avatar n tn i would go to the ear nose and throat doctor. throat problems can cause mouth odors too. if its a tooth and it was so badly infected there would probably be pain, swelling, discomfort. antibiotics are not made for long term use. the more you take them the less effective they become so its more difficult (and sometimes impossible) to treat future infections.
Avatar n tn It means they are inexperienced. And when they write that sugar does not cause tooth decay you can know they are lacking basic knowledge of chemistry. Teeth are fantastic structures, hard organs that have grown with our body from tiny seeds. Call them glowing crystals as they are translucent and have blood vessels and nerve filaments in them. They are sensitive to temperature, vibration, and light and capable of withstanding 100 years of chewing activity.
Avatar n tn And does this gap not lead to possibility of decay to the other roots. How long before serious decay can set in? Is there any way to rectify this. If teeth are vulnerable to decay in general, what does that mean for a tooth which now has a gap at the top near the gumline. If I run my tongue above the gumline where the procedure was done, it feels different than the other side. It caves in on the gumline as well & behind there I can feel the other two roots. PLEASE HELP?
Avatar n tn if the delay is too long, it can indeed spread to another tooth. the abces may also get bigger which can then cause the need to treat IT spearately from treating the tooth. You should have the situation addressed asap. waiting is a poor idea. also, the tooth should be restored with at least a post/filling asap after the root canal. A crown will most likely also be needed.
Avatar f tn There is a condition called pulpal degeneration in which injury to the pulp can cause the irreversible damage and cause the pulp to degenerate and begin to die. Any combination of things can trigger it and there's no set threshold as to how much damage is required to start this process. Injury can include cracks, cavities, drilling, etc.
Avatar f tn s likely an infection from the tooth and gave me a 5 day course of antibiotics. I have an appointment to see my dentist again but until then I was wondering what Is the likely cause and will I need a root canal?
Avatar m tn s which causes dry mucous membranes, including the mouth, These two conditions can cause tooth problems.Find a good rheumatologist. who deals in rheumatoid illnesses, but above all find a good endocrinologist who can tell you about problems with auto immune illness in relation to the thyroid. There is a line of products at the drugstore called Biotene---tooth gel and mouthwash which is lubricating to add moisture to the mouth.
Avatar f tn An abscessed tooth is a painful infection at the root of a tooth or between the gum and a tooth. It's most commonly caused by severe tooth decay. Other causes of tooth abscess are trauma to the tooth, such as when it is broken or chipped, and gingivitis or gum disease. These problems can cause openings in the tooth enamel, which allows bacteria to infect the center of the tooth (called the pulp). The infection may also spread from the root of the tooth to the bones supporting the tooth.
Avatar f tn I was having the same odor problem under a crown and it was decay and I had to have the tooth removed. Bacteria can find it's way under the crown and cause decay...call your dentist about the odor and pain.

Avatar f tn my heart is pinching and my bones hurt badly now can a decay under the crown no tooth left to hold pin have a right swollen face and numbness can be caused by the decay that is under a crown that been there 10 years?
Avatar f tn Hi , My story started with sever pain after my root canal treatment a month ago, then I started to feel something is swollen in my throat, moving up towards the part where the root canal molar treatment took place.Accordingly, I made several visits to general dentists & an oral surgeon, got different opinions, but a common ground answer was that it is probably my wisdom tooth that is causing all this & a less doubt that the molar with the root canal may need to be re-treated again.
Avatar f tn hope you can help... I went to the dentist recently and dentist said that I had some decay on my wisdom teeth and that he wanted to pull them to stop infection and spreading he sent me to get an opg xray (I think that's what it's called) and when I went back he told me I had a really bad infection under the tooth in front of my bottom right wisdom tooth and it would need root canal treatment as the infection is really close to the jaw bone...
Avatar m tn It is possible to fracture your tooth which would cause pain like you described. Decay would show on an xray, but a fractured tooth likely would not. The jaw pain and ringing in ear is also telling. Root fractures are among the most difficult things for a dentist to diagnose and extraction of the tooth is the only true remedy. I don't mean to alarm you and I hope this is not the case, but if nothing else seems to work, this should become a part of your conversation. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn I have this same problem. I havent had the tooth pulled yet but I am on antibiotics. The pain is gone, but my lip and chin are still numb. It has been 3.
Avatar f tn If the filling just came out, and there is no further decay, then they can just put the filling back in....if there is more decay or new decay then they can either put a bigger filling in the tooth, or u may need a root canal if its close to the nerve of the tooth. Dental treatment and X-rays are safe during pregnancy.
