Can antibiotics cause rectal bleeding

Common Questions and Answers about Can antibiotics cause rectal bleeding

antibiotics

Avatar n tn Well, constipation or diarrhea can cause what you describe. Heck diarrhea or constipation can cause bleeding to humans. I should know, heh. There are also other health conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Chron's Disease etc which are diet related and can be controlled by switching to proper nutrition. Now, back to the constipation topic. Is your cat regular?
Avatar n tn The causes can be varied and if you type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc you can see numerous sites describing symptoms/causes/treatment etc. You are too young to have the most sinister cause (colon cancer) and probably the cause is minor - but do get it checked out and ask for a definite diagnosis rather than a ...."well, I'm assuming that it is probably.....haemorrhoids, anal fissure......" etc.. A colonoscopy is the most comprehensive test.
Avatar m tn re on, and so can daily vitamins, so you can switch brands or only take them a couple times a week, and if you recently went thru a round of antibiotics, they can constipate too, and the solution is to return the "good" bacteria the medicine kills by consuming probiotics, which is in Acidophilus milk or Activia yogurt at the grocery store for a couple weeks.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc. You will find numerous sites that describe the main causes of rectal bleeding. The more minor causes include haemorrhoids, anal fissure but, of course, there are more sinister causes too. Probably in your case the cause is more likely to be a recurrence of the haemorrhoids but I suggest that you consult a doctor and get the bleeding checked out.
Avatar f tn Generally rectal bleeding should be investigated until a definite cause is found. Obviously this does not always happen but I would suggest that your friend asks for a colonoscopy so that (hopefully) the non-minor causes can be eliminated.
Avatar m tn For 6 days, they pumped approximately 40 bags of IV antibiotics, fluids, and minerals (potassium, magnesium, etc.) into me. When discharged, I continued another 2 weeks of Cipro and 2 rounds of Fluconazole for yeast infection. Since ending the last round of pills 5 days ago, my bowel movements have begun to return to normal after having antibiotic-induced diarrhea for a month.

Avatar f tn I have heard this too can cause bleeding...not sure if it will cause excessive bleeding or not but it could be a possibility. My doc told me to take Metamicil with OJ and this should help me...so far so good. I would def. bring it up with a doc as it could be an indicator of something more serious, but if you are preg - I would think its just one of those common enough things that ppl just dont openly speak about. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Using moist wipes will also be of help too as toilet paper is hard on the delicate areas of the rectum and can cause bleeding. If you are not drinking enough water it can cause bowel problems and not enough of the right fiber can too. Psyllium powder is a big help for this problem.
Avatar n tn Rectal bleeding is never normal and I think you should request another colonoscopy. If diverticular bleeding is identified then a treatment plan should be formulated. Occasionally diverticular bleeding can be torrential (as happened to me) and requires emergency hospital admission/treatment. Google rectal bleeding to find out more - the Medicinenet site is particularly informative.
Avatar f tn Over the last 6 months to a year I have experienced intermittent diarrhea and rectal bleeding as well as occasional abdominal cramping. Bright red rectal bleeding can occur without BM and can turn water red. Hgb dropped from 14.3 to 12.9 over 10 days. Most recent episode experienced diarrhea, bleeding, fever, severe cramping, weight loss, arthritis pains and anorexia. Initial stool cultures were negative. Diarrhea contains mucus but no blood.
Avatar n tn In order to provide yourself with maximum pre-consultation information, you could type in rectal bleeding to google/yahoo etc and click onto one of the many postings that describe rectal bleeding and its symptoms/causes/treatments etc etc.
Avatar f tn Yes absolutely. It is very hard sometimes to get endo. diagnosed. At first, that is what I thought that I had (IBS like you)....I had rectal bleeding, painful intercourse, diarrhea, constipation to the point where I couldn't move and I thought my appendix was bursting. But, after going to a gastroentrologist, he immediately said that it didn't sound like a bowel issue, but more of a female reproductive issue endometriosis. I was scared, but after that doctor spoke with my gyno.
Avatar m tn Hi.....there are various things that can cause rectal pain, but don't get caught up in thinking the worst. Rectal pain is not a symptom of cancer, usually it's inflammation. Below is a great website to ease your mind on what may be causing your symptoms. Hope this helps and best wishes. http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn The color of the blood during rectal bleeding often depends on the location of the bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract. Generally, the closer the bleeding site is to the anus, the blood will be a brighter red. Causes of Rectal Bleeding * Anal Fissure * Colon Cancer * Colon Polyps * Crohn's Disease * Diverticulitis (Diverticulosis) * Hemorrhoids * Peptic Ulcer * Stomach Cancer" www.medicinenet.com/script/main/forum.asp?
Avatar n tn I have rectal bleeding, itching, and hard stools for over two weeks now. It hurts when I use the bathroom (try to pass a stool) and I have a hard time sitting after passing a stool. Also I am passing mucus in my stool?
Avatar m tn Any rectal bleeding needs to be addressed right away. You need to have your headaches addressed as well. The pain killers can wreak havoc on your stomach, but if the blood was coming from your stomach it would turn your stool black. See a gastroenterologist to address the stomach problem and the bleeding. Take care.
1086334 tn?1272575756 I am having heavy rectal bleeding during my bowel movements and it is not just a streak of blood, but it is bright red and plenty of it. It literally turns the toilet bowl water red to where you can't see through it. It is also very painful to go, because i am always constipated and it makes the bleeding worse. I have been taking metamucil, but all it is doing is making my bowels softer, but I still bleed just as heavy during a BM.
Avatar f tn Hemorrhoids are most likely the cause of the rectal bleeding. You can have external hemorrhoids or internal ones. Bright red blood is suggestive of hemorrhoids and dark red blood suggests colon polyps, cancer, peptic ulcers, etc.
5167572 tn?1364606043 Rectal bleeding is never normal and should always be medically invesgtigated. For possible causes google rectal bleeding and have a look at the many entries there. The Medicinenet site is particularly informative. This should help you when you meet your doctor. If your doctor is unable to confirm firmly that the cause is minor (eg haemorrhoids, anal fissure etc), you may wish to request a colonoscopy.
Avatar f tn I've had rectal bleeding for years. I always attributed it to hemorrhoids due to the fact that I have pain and itching quite frequently during and after a hard bowel movement or explosive diarrhea. I was diagnosed with IBS a few years ago. Today I had explosive diarrhea with a fair amount of blood. The doctor did a digital rectal exam and found multiple hemorrhoids.
