Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar m tn I can walk without crutches I do have a bit of a limp at the minute. Walking up stairs is a little more difficult I have to step good leg first. My fib is still broken and I hear it click when I walk. I was told this is normal and it will heal on its own and not to worry about it. I stopped using crutches after 3 weeks (only used them for really long walks) what I did to help walking is stand with my crutches but not using them, Then shift my weight over to the bad foot.
Avatar f tn I immediately went to the doctor for x-rays. The x-rays did not show that the ankle was broken. When I left the doctor's office, I barely made it to the car, it hurt so bad and I absolutely couldn't walk on it. The doctor told me to get crutches, ice and elevate it for a few days and if it didn't get better, call him and he would refer me to an orthopedic doctor. Well, I've did the treatment and have been using crutches since the injury.
Avatar n tn I've had my left ankle broken on sept 29, it was a fibula frature with a tibia dislocation, was on splint for a week, had surgery on oct 7th,plate + screws + a very long screw to place my tibia on the right place, splint for another week, then my orthopedist put me on aircast Air Stirrup Universe since then. He told me to start physical therapy a week after surgery, but I waited until 2 weeks. Now my foot hurts on an area that has nothing to do with the fracture.
5982276 tn?1377794537 Basically a Week and a half ago I fell down Concrete steps outside. Twisted my ankle badly on the way down and landed my full weight on my left leg. I heard / felt a crack and the pain was to bad to stand up for a few minutes. I decided to let it heal by itself for a few days but my ankle / shin have became to painful to carry on normally and I can not walk without them both swelling and having quite alot of pain.
Avatar f tn The regular cast is only continued if your doctor feels that healing is not complete, and if he feels it complete then you are advised to use crutches. The usual period for healing is around 6-8 weeks, but lower leg fractures take a little more to recover. The initial one week period is also taken into account. Follow up is advised every two weeks to see whether alignment is proper or not. In case of misalignment found at any point of treatment surgery might be necessary.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago I had an accident, I feel off a Quattrocycle and the wheel ran over my ankle twisting my leg. Bruising came out straight away and a little swelling, I rested leg for a few days and continued walking with a little pain thereafter .

Avatar n tn After getting it all taken out, I was on crutches for 2 days, and 2 weeks later I was running on a treadmill. My leg feels totally normal after getting it removed and I reccommend you to do the same. The recovery time was nothing like the original break at all. Nobody likes the idea of operations but I cant believe the difference it has made!!! DO IT!
Avatar f tn My right foot slid and remained against a balluster while my body twisted. Immediately I knew I had broken my leg and wondered if I also broke my ankle. The fallresulted in a high fibula spiral fracture on my right leg. X-rays showed no widening of the mortise joint between the tibia and fibula and I was advised to not use a boot after ten days and to walk without crutches as soon as I could bear weight.
1709674 tn?1308131529 I have ostoperous and have broken both wrists. I have to exercise to strengthen them, and keep fit and keep my weight down so I don't break anything else. Keeping weight down is the hardest. I would get advice from a dr. as to what you need to do, have it X-Rayed.
Avatar m tn Consequently this was done again in Dec 2010. Was advised to stay on 2 crutches for 12 weeks due to x-ray results showing some linings. Rehab in pool went well, swimming laps, and in March 2011 was told to dispense with both crutches. Discarding one crutch, within a couple of weeks the femur broke just below the tip of the prosthesis ( no incident), A 10 inch plate was inserted. Rehab was on track as of before, with one crutch being used for August.
Avatar m tn I am a fourty six yr old female that has been on crutches for twenty five yrs because i was in a car wreak back in 1988 and I had a compound fracture on my right femur I have had sevaral surgery on it but failed everytime. Avatar m tn I sprained my ankle 5 days ago, and I went to the ER due to serious pain, they advised me that it was not broken and to see an orthopedic within the following 2-3 days. I went to the orthopedic yesterday and he informed me that I had a pretty severe sprain, but nothing too serious. He gave me an air cast and told me to use my crutches until my next visit a week later, but also said I could put weight on it if it was not painful.
209987 tn?1451935465 i broken my leg now have severe bruising in leg and now in my foot which is badly swollen is this normal after fall
Avatar m tn I underwent open reduction and internal fixation with a T-plate and screws on the same evening, and was discharged walking with crutches 5 days later. 5 weeks later ie last week, X-Rays showed ''fixation solid with early healing'' (surgeon's words.) They took off the cast and gave me a cloth brace which grips my lower shin and ankle and most of the foot very tight. It is tight enough to cause some pain, though I take it off at night and put it back on in the morning.
Avatar f tn suffered broken ankle in May 2010. Had surgery with plate and screws to fix. 2 weeks no weight bareing, 8 + weeks in camwalker boot - weight bearing as tolerated. Then moved to right ankle element brace and cane. Have completed 2 sessions of PT. Have chronic pain i ... [More] n foot/ankle with every step I take. Both my foot/leg are still swollen and discolored. Taking pain meds daily. Recently returned to work (4 hours per day sitting).
Avatar f tn This can be accomplished with simple exercises like straight leg raises, leg press, hamstring curls, lunges etc. Ask any certified trainer for more ways to strengthen your lower extremity muscles. Take care!
Avatar f tn The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!! I have a tubular bandage now and obviously am still in a great deal of pain. Do I need a second opinion. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hi Katie..they took her to the er and they wouldn't help her..they said they don't cast there..It's probably because she already had the splint.. this seems like such a mess..Thanks for your help..
Avatar f tn He says there is a risk the plate will break if I keep walking on a broken leg, so I need to make my decision quickly as to surgery. I appreciate your opinion/help greatly. You can imagine my stress level. This discussion is related to Angulated fix of femur.
