Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar f tn She needs to rest, apply ice, elevate the leg (prop up on pillows), and wear the splint when not icing (is this an air cast?). She should not walk on it, so get her some crutches. She also needs to eat regularly, and drink plenty of fluids. Supplemental minerals will also help with healing. NSAIDs like ibuprofen will help reduce swelling along with the ice. Always take NSAIDs with food.
Avatar m tn I broke my fibula in two places above my ankle and the mallelor of my tibula. I had surgery three weeks ago. One week after my surgery, they removed the "soft" cast and put me in a boot with crutches and compression socks to help with the swelling. For those above who were asking about swelling - I believe you can buy these socks at any pharmacy. They also recommended to ice the surgical area..as well to keep any swelling down.
Avatar f tn The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!! I have a tubular bandage now and obviously am still in a great deal of pain. Do I need a second opinion. Regards.
1709674 tn?1308131529 I am 22 years old. I was just trying to avoid the doctor as much as possible and hoping it was a sprain, but it's left me a bit immobile. Thank you so much, I will be heading to the doctor tomorrow!
Avatar f tn No weight on his leg. This past week the cast was removed and he was told to get rid of the crutches. He could even walk without one crutch. If he moves the foot and leg a certain way he has a shooting pain from about an inch above the ankle half way up the lower leg. The doc never said anything about therapy. Any suggestion?
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn I feel and broke my ankle in the beginning of March, I had to get xrays. Then they put me in a hard cast and I had to use crutches! Finally got my cast off and they put me in an air cast. Im 30weeks and 6 days now. It felt impossible to do anything, I cried alot. I hope you get better soon, prayers!
Avatar n tn Im 19 years old, broke my tibia and fibia when i was 15 racing motocross, i was put in a cast, but i had broken my tibia again inside the cast as it was trying to heal, so my doctor suggested putting it back in the cast or trying a intramedullary rod surgery for guranteed results. So we had the surgery, now a couple years down the road im very much regreting the surgery, i have pain from time to time in my leg and where the screw is at.
Avatar m tn He gave me an air cast and told me to use my crutches until my next visit a week later, but also said I could put weight on it if it was not painful. I have been walking a little bit because it is not painful for the most part. Sometimes it hurts pretty bad, but if that is the case I am sure to stay off of it and use crutches. Each time I take my aircast off I notice that the bruising gets worse and worse. It has gotten so bad as to start bruising my toes.
Avatar f tn I fell down a staircase two months ago and I landed badly on my ankle. After that I went to a hospital, three times, and they took a few x-rays, all of the times, and even put me in a cast. I was on crutches before and after the cast. The doctors couldn't see anything wrong and the ankle is not swollen or bruised. But it still hurts very much. And not only when walking or standing, it's just a pain that won't go away. It's like it's in the bone or the nerves.
Avatar f tn I had a cast for 7 weeks (non-walking) and the first week without a cast I was not allowed to walk. Now I am allowed to walk, but only on 20% of my body weight and I have an ankle brace. I would like to ask, when approximately I will be able to walk without my crutches and be able to do some sports?
5982276 tn?1377794537 Basically a Week and a half ago I fell down Concrete steps outside. Twisted my ankle badly on the way down and landed my full weight on my left leg. I heard / felt a crack and the pain was to bad to stand up for a few minutes. I decided to let it heal by itself for a few days but my ankle / shin have became to painful to carry on normally and I can not walk without them both swelling and having quite alot of pain.

499151 tn?1235359642 amount of time for no weight bearing, use of cast/splints,crutches, etc. At this point, I am able to be out of the cast (removable air cast) when I am at home, inside, but wear it outside and when using stairs, etc.Still using the bone stimulator. Most recent x-rays showed healing beginning, but I am nervous that this non-union business may re-occur.
Avatar f tn I fractured my ankle and fibula 6 months ago, they were not big fracturs just small cracks, i had my leg in cast for 4 weeks but still have occasional pain.
Avatar m tn I did this whilst playing soccer. The doctor said i do not need surgery. I have a cast from my toes all the way up my leg its been on now for 5 weeks. How long until i can get this cast off or at least start putting weight on my leg. And how long until i can start playing soccer again.
Avatar n tn I went to the ER and they gave me a removable cast and crutches and said to be non weight bearing at least until I flew home (I was out of town for a few weeks at that time). But honestly, I didn't use the crutches or the cast much while I was still out of town. When I got home and saw a doctor, he said to continue to wear the removable cast for 8 weeks, although I was walking without it well before that.
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar f tn One question is when he does let the leg drop as he walks on the crutches his foot turns a blue color is there a problem with that?? Another question is can they not put it in a cast bc my husband is very fearfull of the surgery? He just fell on it the wrong way i guess. Could he have a problem with his bones being so young? I have read and most of the tibia fibula fractures is caused by car, ski and other such activities.
Avatar n tn We made an MRI which showed bone marrow edemas on the neck, lateral processes and on the talus dome, the radiologists wrote that this is most compatible with bone bruises, microtrabecular injuries. I have not been in a cast, just a light splint, but it is very painful, now I don't walk, I am on crutches for already anothe month with no imporvement.
Avatar m tn The pain from initially getting up starts when I use my crutches. My ankle hurts and the leg does as well. After 10 minutes or so, the pain subsides. It is not this painful throughout the day. If I have my leg sitting a certain way it will start but if I elevate the foot and move my toes around it goes away. There is usually no further tenderness either. I was just worried it may be a blood clot. Or is this typical of an injury like this?
