Broken leg cast brace

Common Questions and Answers about Broken leg cast brace

broken-leg

Avatar f tn The Spanish doctors initially saw no break, but a second doctor noticed a break in the talus bone and put my leg in a half cast for support whilst travelling back by plane to England. Once home I went to hospital thinking they would put the leg in a full cast but the doctor said I had just severe swelling and couldn't see a break!! I have a tubular bandage now and obviously am still in a great deal of pain. Do I need a second opinion. Regards.
Avatar m tn She jumped off of a chair and broke her front leg. The vet said the cast would be enough and the surgery is not required. However the x-ray shows that the bones are not aligned perfectly. I understand that he is a professional but I have already had experience with some incompetent vets and cannot rule out this one to be another example. I will probably get an advise from another vet but also want to hear your opinions. Has anyone had the same kind of problem? Here are the x-ray shots.
Avatar m tn I was told these breaks are pretty serious and if not taken care of you can end up with pain for the rest of your life and have a walking cane.. I dont think you want a brace on your leg so tight it hurts.. You need a soft cast with some room for the swelling. keep it elevated!!!!
Avatar m tn I was in a half cast, basically on the back of my leg and below the foot for a touch over a week, so I was unable to move my ankle and leg and was on crutches. Then 2 days ago I went to the outpatients department and the doc took the cast off me and told me to start walking on it with the aid of crutches as it isn't the weight bearing bone. He said that the bone will heal by itself without the cast and even with me putting a bit of pressure on it.
Avatar f tn ( that really *****
Avatar f tn Cut back on the activities, carrying things in your fingers/hand, holding thins in your fingers/hand. The wrist needs to rest!!!!! Consider the cast as a brace in order to immobilize the wrist so it can heal. It's not a foolproof safety net that allows you to do whatever with your hand while you have it on! Consider it fragile and treat it with lots of care or you may run into problems with nonunion or poor alignment of your fracture!
Avatar f tn There was no break on the x ray they originally gave him, The knee cap dislocated several times over the following 3 weeks (when he wore a brace)after the x ray, so the cast was put on but no repeat x ray was performed. I will check back to this forum for help as it goes on, it's nice to know there is someone listeneing!
Avatar f tn suffered broken ankle in May 2010. Had surgery with plate and screws to fix. 2 weeks no weight bareing, 8 + weeks in camwalker boot - weight bearing as tolerated. Then moved to right ankle element brace and cane. Have completed 2 sessions of PT. Have chronic pain i ... [More] n foot/ankle with every step I take. Both my foot/leg are still swollen and discolored. Taking pain meds daily. Recently returned to work (4 hours per day sitting).
Avatar f tn And the hellish anxiety I completely understand. It felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and take off running and screaming. Fortunately it started to get better, and after the ativan was gone I just dropped it and didn't think about asking for more. Now, I'm not in a long leg cast and can't imagine what it must be like. I do have a broken left knee cap and cracked tibia from a work injury last June. Fell off a ladder.
Avatar f tn I'm going on 8 wks in a leg cast. I'm due in 10 weeks. All I want to do is WALK into and out of the hospital!! I feel your frustration and totally get your concerns and worries.
Avatar f tn They told me 6 weeks to heal before i get cast off, but i was in a splint style cast for the first week, does that count as one week? and also should nt have the doctor have asked me to come in for check up x-rays just to make sure the bone is healing properly? i live in a small community was treated by a regular doctor a i think.Do u think ill need an aircast after i get regular cast off or is that just optional?
Avatar f tn I was also looking for some advice on a fractured vertebrae. About 3 months ago, after moving some furniture my lower back was in severe pain. After being put in the hospital and going through numerous mri, ct scans, colonoscopy, and ultrasounds, they discovered I had a fratured vertebrae. (L5). About 6 weeks ago I went to a spine specialist who put me ina brace. He told me it would limit movement and aleviate the pain.
Avatar f tn I had a cast for 7 weeks (non-walking) and the first week without a cast I was not allowed to walk. Now I am allowed to walk, but only on 20% of my body weight and I have an ankle brace. I would like to ask, when approximately I will be able to walk without my crutches and be able to do some sports?
Avatar n tn I think it is too early to remove the cast in your case. May be you can ask your doctor about plastic cast walker, which is much lighter and allows you to walk to some extent. Once full fracture healing is confirmed by the doctor, rehabilitation can continue with a physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy exercises are very helpful in regaining ankle range of movement. Best.
Avatar m tn It depends it can be anything from wearing a special leg and ankle brace or plaster cast up to surgery for severe cases.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.
Avatar f tn I am a 41 year old woman, not very sporty, on the lower end of activity levels. I walk and hike some, but do not play sports. I also ride a bike occasionally for recreation. I completely ruptured my ACL 2 weeks ago as well as tore my meniscus. My doctor is reassessing in a week. He said I definitely had to repair the meniscus, but the ACL replacement was up to me. I wear a hinged brace all the time except in the evenings when I get home from work. My knee feels somewhat unstable.
Avatar f tn I try very hard to limit my movement during the day and keep my foot up but still by about 7pm my discomfort is intense with a very tight cast, pain in the leg and numb toes. Is what I am experiencing normal or should I be concerned?
Avatar m tn they constantly rotated her legs and stretched them out again to check her hips before fracture was dianosed. then they put a cast on on the bottom of her leg instead of the top. would all of these mistakes have made the fracture worse than it originally was.
Avatar m tn They immediately did the surgery the same day on June 27, 2012. A day after, they put my entire leg in a permanent cast and cut a flap over the knee so the staples could be removed in 2 weeks without removing the cast. The surgeon said the cast will remain for 6 weeks after surgery. Until then, he told me to do toe flexing exercises and to flex the knee down as much as the cast allows. I had the the staples removed about 2 weeks as prescribed.
Avatar n tn I was run over by a car 10 months ago and suffered a broken left fibula in two places and tibula. I was treated for the broken leg and the bones have healed. However, I was never treated or examined for any other possible injuries. Upon getting hit my lower body from the waist down had gone completely numb but feeling returned within a few hours after the accident. I have been suffering from neuropathy in my feet, hands and knees along with phantom muscle and joint pain daily.
Avatar m tn Alright, thanks for your guidance. The ankle is slightly swollen and then formed the way I described above. No bruising though.
Avatar n tn ll need to go in a cast for 6 more weeks. That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
