blood

Avatar f tn ) to assist in breaking up the mucus. Drink plenty of fluids with this medication. You don't want to rupture blood vessels from the coughing. You might also try an electric nebulizer filled with a little sterile normal saline. It sounds like you may be regurgitating a bit of stomach acid because of a relaxed Lower esophageal sphincter. This can be exacerbated with chemicals called methylxanthines, which are found in coffee and chocolate. Try sleeping with your upper body at a 20-30 degree angle.
Avatar m tn In hemorrhoids the blood falls after the stool. In fissures it lines the stools. In all other problems the blood is mixed with stools. The blood in phlegm could be due to bronchitis or pneumonia, lung cancers (especially in smokers), tuberculosis, bronchiectasis (a disease leading to dilatation of airways), pulmonary embolism (or clot in lung), or fungal and other infections. Discuss these possibilities with your doctor.
Avatar n tn While there are always other possible reasons for blood streaks in phlegm, the one given to you by your doctors is, by far, the most likely.
Avatar n tn My nose seems to most of the time be quite stuffed, so I dont know if this is from dry sinuses or something like that, and there is no blood in the phlegm later in the day, just a small amount in the morning. Within the last two months, I have had a chest Xray and everything was fine on it, as well as hematology, where again everything was fine. This blood in the phlegm is actually starting to bother me, although I assume it's most likely a sinus thing, but cannot be sure.
Avatar m tn As for the mucus in your throat, if you have Post-nasal drip the blood in your nose will mix with the mucus and run down your throat. In case you are worried, rest assured that dark blood in your stool is more indicative of a gastrointestinal problem than if it is in your upper respiratory system.
Avatar n tn Hello, As far as I have understood the query,it seems to be related to phlegm in throat. This may be due to post nasal drip. Post-nasal drip (PND) occurs when excessive mucus is produced by the sinuses. The excess mucus accumulates in the throat or back of the nose. It can be caused by rhinitis, sinusitis, or laryngopharyngeal acid reflux. It can be enhanced or sometimes even caused by allergies. Pls check out with an ENT specialist if you are having chronic rhinitis or sinusitis.
Avatar n tn Shortly after things got worse and I also developed constant mucus/phlegm which is clear-colored and almost thick as gum. I went to the ENT which suggested my symptoms are related to acid reflux and prescribed Prevacid. After a month on the medication, I felt no improvement at all. It seems as though the situation only deteriorated as I'm now also having a bit of trouble breathing.

Avatar n tn I also have a issue in the morning when I bring up the phelgm it appears to be red dots(blood) mixed in, but only in the am and not anytime during the day. my question is: is the phlegm brown due to the lack of smoking and my lungs are clearing out? why the blood and why can't I clear this odor out of my nose.
Avatar f tn HEre is my question. Today when I coughed up phlegm there was blood in it. Not liquid like blood. It was red but had the texture of phlegm or gelatin. Should I be concerned? I called the on call doctor and they wee no help at all. Is this a symptom of H1N1?
Avatar n tn I have been coughing up phlegm and only twice has it happened where i have coughed up phlegm with streaks of blood in it. I do not smoke, take drugs or drink. Can you help me?
Avatar n tn For the last five years I have endured the presence of constant phlegm in my throat.
Avatar n tn a week after medication, I constantly feel the presence of sticky phlegm in the back of my throat. Coughing doesn't get it out, spitting only hurts my throat (except for a very controlled kind of spit which is very noisy and embarrassing to do in public) and it ends up expelling only little phlegm. I'm wondering if it's possible that my tuberculosis has recurred somehow (to my extreme horror) or that my bronchitis is really something else?
192055 tn?1263559137 For about a year now, it feels like I have phlegm/mucus stuck in my throat and can't completely clear my throat. Also when I cough, its a lil wet and there is phlegm. When I started to have the problem, I went to the doc and he said it just may be sinuses and sent me on my way... but never went away. I went to the doc while I was in Basic Training in SC... then went to GA for 4 months... back to FL for a few months (where i use to live) and now I am in NC....
Avatar n tn About 3 days ago I got a real bad sore throat and its getting better, but for the last two days I wake up and I cough once and my mucus is thick with blood in it. It only happens in the morning and then i am fine the rest of the day. I am a smoker and about 3 years ago I had an infected lung.... which was easily fixed with antibiotics.... what can be causing this? I have no other signs of a cold and i am getting regular headache but i have had that my whole life ...
Avatar n tn My husband, 37 years old, non-smoker, and in excellent health has been suffering from excessive phlegm in his throat for about 6 weeks now. It started as a cold and cough, but now he just has the excessive, clear phlegm. At times it impedes his talking and in the night it completely clogs up his throat and he wakes up gasping for air - taking several minutes to be able to breathe again, nearly passing out each time from lack of air.
Avatar m tn Exactly one week ago I engaged in rimming with a female sex worker. (Me on her) 2/3 days later I started to get a lot of phlegm collecting in the back of my throat and it has continued like that for the last 4 days. My throat is not sore at all, I don't have a chesty cough, there is just a constant build-up of mucus that I have to spit in a tissue. It smells quite bad as well. Do you have any idea what this could be?
Avatar n tn However it is possible that you had a transient rise in blood pressure, resulting in both headache and a broken blood vessel somewhere in your respiratory tract. Put the headache aside for a moment, especially if it has not returned. The most likely problem, with the combination of blood in your sputum and air travel, would be a pulmonary embolus. This is a blood clot in an artery of the lungs. Talk about this with your doctor to see if there are any other reasons to suspect this problem.
Avatar f tn My concern is that when I try to clear the roof of my mouth... like snort to remove mucus.. my mucus has blood in it. Is this something to worry about ?
Avatar f tn The brown phlegm takes on this characteristic color due to these changes in hue once blood has dried out or gotten old. Most of the time, when blood is present in the mucus, it will present itself as such or as brown phlegm. However sometimes, the presence of blood in mucus can result in a black appearance as well. You should see your doctor, especially if you're having fever and weight loss.
Avatar n tn I have phlegm and it has blood in it when I pull it from my nose. I am also light headed but no headaches. I have no idea what this is, but am kind of worried because it is thick sometimes(mucus and blood). It is usually a rust color when it happens. What should I do? Thanks for your help!
Avatar m tn I was thinking that possibly there could be some external factors in that shortly before this "condition" I did a couple of bay swims here in long beach, ca. and they were right after it had rained..... the other one was a run I did adjacent to the rio grande river in Albuquerque new mexico in an area they call the bosque...its a dirt trail next to the river....just wondering if I might have picked up something from either of these occurances in mid to late November....
Avatar n tn Hey :) I've been reading a number of posts here, in the archives, about phlegm in the throat. I have phlegm in the back of my throat all the time. I'm certain this is contributing to my snoring. One extremely helpful post said that constant phlegm in the throat is comes from congestion that is above or below your throat. If the congestion is in the chest this could be due to asthma. I'm not asthmatic, I don't smoke or live with a smoker, so that's out.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from excess mucus which lodges in my throat for about 3+ years now. It causes me fatigue, and it interferes with daily life, e.g. coughing up mucus all day into sink, tissues, etc. It has not let up, except for about 2 days. I have gone to approximately six doctors and no one has determined the cause nor does anyone have any ideas. I have had a car load of tests run, e.g.
Avatar n tn do you feel phlegm stuck in your chest that made you want to cough deeply? or do you feel the urge to cough because your phlegm already sits in your throat? do you have problem breathing? do you feel expanding your chest a problem? and do you feel itchy or discomfort in your chest/airways? did you cough up thick mucus or thinner mucus resembling saliva? or was it saliva that you've actually coughed up? any phlegm you feel like coughing/stuck in chest, when you lie down after a while?
Avatar m tn Hi guys, I have been experiencing Phlegm in my throat for 4 months now. I just want to know can anyone have an allergy at my age (24) and not since child hood.....I think I may have developed some kind of lactose tolerance or something, because the phlegm increses when I drink milk....so now switching to soya milk. Question: Can you have allergy anytime in life or has to start at childhood/birth? How do I test to know if I have milk allergy or all lactose problem?
Avatar n tn Many viral conditions like EBV (glandular fever) behave in this way with recurrent respiratory infections. Many parasitic infestations and worms increase the eosinophil counts in the blood and thus cause an increased risk of upper respiratory infections. Conditions like tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, asbestosis and silicosis along with pulmonary fibrosis should be ruled out. If there is no fever then chances of allergic reaction, acidity and reflux and high eosinophil count are more.
