Avatar m tn I walk only for 30 minutes daily due to my low EF(30%) post MI. can this make so much difference to HDL and triglycrides?? Only three months back my triglycrides were below 100. Now they are 177. I am unable to point out any reason(probably my lack on knowledge on this subject). Shall appreciate your experience and suggestions.
Avatar n tn Hi I am 31 yr male with weight of 183 lb (83 kg) and height 5'9" (173 cms). I had a chest and body pain after which I am being diagonsed with high cholestrol with following readings Total Cholesterol - 234 mg/dl Triglyceride - 166 mg/dl HDL - 28 mg/dl LDL - 122.
Tbd You can really lower it with any of those things- medications or food. Your doctor will know best which measures need taken to get the best results. It can be difficult to bring it down with diet only- so you may need some medication to attack the issue head on, then you can work to improve the situation with your diet.
Avatar f tn Having said that, a normal or high HDL also is a protective factor for those with a family history of heart disease so a higher number would be desirable. They are many ways to increase HDL from supplements to exercise. Did your doctor make any suggestions?
Avatar n tn t eat fast food to get my HDL up, a small increase in HDL will lead to a much larger increase in LDL. There are better ways to increase your HDL. The best way is exercise, regular exercise, min of 30 mins per day 7 days a week, will raise your HDL. You can also look at Niacin,it is also used to raise HDL but please check with your doctor, first. You need to understand the role HDL plays. HDL binds with LDL to remove it from your blood and keep it from accumulating in your arteries.
Avatar m tn Elevated liver enzymes, elevated triglycerides, low HDL, elevated uric acid, elevated ESR rate, elevated TSH are labs that can show up with hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism causes many symptoms but includes high blood pressure. The elevated ESR is an inflammatory marker and may be due Hashimoto's thyroiditis (autoimmune thyroid disease). Recommended to test for thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb).
Avatar m tn What will be the specific diet to rise HDL level and also low VLDL & LDL level?
Avatar f tn I'm 20 at the moment. I am not currently over weight but I used to be. By about 25lbs. I have good blood pressure and am healthy over all. I was looking at my lipid profile from about 4 years ago , not even. About 3 1/2 years ago. Here is what it said... Cholesterol 193 Triglycerides 118 HDL 74 LDL 95 LDL/HDL ratio 1.28 Is this high for a 17 year old?? And will it get even higher with age or does it depend on your diet?
Avatar n tn Not as hard as it sounds. To lower your tri's, cut out the empty carbs like sugars, alcohol, breads and pastas. All metabolize to sugars and raise tri's. The easiest way to increase HDL is with regular exercise. A minimum of 30 mins of moderate exercise most days of the week with your heart rate at 70% of your predicted max plus (220-age). Keep it under 85%, no additional benefit for pushing that hard.
Avatar f tn Managing your cholesterol levels can be done through modifying your diet and taking targeted nutritional supplements. As Jon said, your profile is not bad. Thus not a candidate for statin drugs. Besides, much research suggests that certain supplements are just as effective as statin drugs, have less side effects and are far less costly. Antioxidants inhibit cholesterol from oxidizing onto the linings of the arteries. Coenzyme Q10 is a powerful antioxidant that can be taken orally.
535882 tn?1396576685 Based on the information you have provided your LDL is at goal and the next step for HDL increase is diet and exercise to lose weight. There are also medications that may help but first diet and exercise should be done.
1124887 tn?1313754891 If I were to change anything it would be more exercise. I did not see a significant increase in my HDL until I started the 7 days a week exercise routine I'm on now. Having spoken before, I can't say I know of anything you're doing wrong either. I think I would retest in 30 days for grins and see which set seem to be the norm. Always great to hear from you!
Avatar f tn In some cases, doctors will go directly to statin therapy which can control your levels of LDL and help increase your HDL. In my case, I have done both. I am a 50 year old male and made some lifestyle changes by watching my diet and began to exercise daily and at the same time started statin therapy due to my age, being a male, my current TC which was 234 and my high blood pressure which has been controlled for several years.
Avatar n tn Exericse is the best way to increase your HDL and lower your TG's. The fish oil is also very helpful. If those don't work, either niacin which may be difficult to tolerate of a medication such as Tricor may help put those back in order.
Avatar n tn If she eliminates red meat from her diet, fast food, processed meats such as hotdogs, deli meat and drinks skim milk the LDL levels should drop dramatically. Dark chocolate and salmon has been shown to increase HDL levels (HDL good cholesterol). Omega 3 is great for the heart. If the LDL and HDL are way out of range, it usually shows that this is hereditary and then medication is needed. If the LDL and HDL are not that far out of range, diet may be able to correct this.
Avatar n tn The proven way to increase your good cholesterol (HDL) is to do regular aerobic exercise. Even a fast walk by ensuring your heart achieves 80% of your (maximum heart rate (220-Age) = 180 in your case). So the 80% comes out to be around 140/min. A rough method is to walk so fast that you’re not able to complete one sentence without taking a breath in between. You should walk at least 30 min per day for at least 5 days a week.
Avatar n tn PART 1 LDL Particle Size Connection First and foremost, it's important to realize that your diet is your best and primary ally for the prevention of inflammation that can lead to heart- and cardiovascular disease. Much focus is placed on cholesterol levels and the ratio of "good" HDL and "bad" LDL cholesterol, but unfortunately, many conventional recommendations for how to improve your cholesterol levels are seriously flawed.
Avatar m tn I would get another opinion as even with your high HDL, your ratio to LDL is still to high. The fact that your parents had heart issues means your LDL should be under 100. See another doctor to be safe.
Tbd You certainly can increase physical activity to raise your hdl which balances the bad cholesterol. Speak to your doctor to see what is best for you. We wish you the best of health.
Avatar n tn Although there is a paucity of data on the long-term effects, most case studies indicate that HDL continues to increase the longer the diet is followed. My overall sense as a PhD nutritionist working in research for over 20 years, is that even a very high HDL is probably good news (if you want to live really long I mean). But, because there are so few people with these types of numbers, we really don't know.
