Regular antihistamines are not generally effective. The antihistamine cyproheptadine (Periactin) has been found to be a useful treatment. The tricyclic antidepressant doxepin has also been found to be an effective blocker of histamine release. Finally, a medication called ketotifen, which keeps mast cells from releasing histamine, has also been used with success.

How long can i use antihistamine for my daughter aged 7 months to relieve her of the eczema itching.
I went to the dr. Im 25 weeks. The doctor gave me eye drops called ketotifen she said its category C. She said it may or may not harm the baby. But I dont wanna take anything thats not safe. I was thinking about calling the eye dr office and ask if its safe. The pharmacist said its safe but to let my ob/gunna know. When I look up the medicine it said maybe harmful. uggh idk what to do. Dont wanna put my baby at risk.
not life or death type allergies, but sneezing, itchy nose and eyes, headaches. I take a one a day antihistamine to deal with it. .. but it says on the box not to take if pregnant. Im only 7 weeks, and have stopped taking them... but my allergies are horrible at the moment. All the sneezing is not helping with my morning sickness. During my last pregancey my symptoms actually went away but not this time... my question is can i take my antihistamine?
He is using Dermovate ointment, Tab Montilucast 5 mg daily with Ketotifen tabs for years. Any suggestion further?

from Betamethasone to Dermovate, along with pills ranging from Atarax to Ranitidine which I take along Ketotifen. I am worried that this thing will be fungus or an STD as none of the treatments I have been given seem to work. The dermatologist I have seen told me that it could be bug bites, but that was not the case... I was told it could be urticaria... but why is it lasting so long... and why is it only on my buttocks and inner thighs? I need help please.
m now worried that I may have damaged my eyes and will have complications down the road because of it. Should I be worried or am I just being paranoid? Also should mention that I had used some antihistamine drops (ketotifen fumarate) off and on in the months leading up to all of this due to allergies. Here's one for the books. My daughter has had a allergic reaction to an oral antihistamine she took for what appeared to be hives just below the right side of her derriere. This little bout of hives were taking their time going away and so she thought by taking the antihistamine it would help the process.
Hi, my dermatologist has prescribed me a antihistamine for my itching and wants me to use it for 4-6 weeks. The med is called hydroxzine. I am concerned because i never heard of anyone using antihistamine for that long. Will this severly affect my liver? Please help!

I sometimes have so much drainage that I have to take oral antihistamine, too. I hate it, because the oral antihistamine is so sedating.
