Avatar f tn At the shelter they told me to watch for kennel cough. She is sneezing and coughing. Today I noticed a runny eye, and she seems unactive (especially for a kitten). I can not take her to the vet or back to the spca. I adopted her at a shelter that is 4 hours away. I went to the feed store to get amoxicilyn, but the said u can not get it in ca.
Avatar m tn My 8 year old male Maltese has been showing symptoms of what seems to be Kennel Cough, however my assumptions are based on an hour's worth of internet research. I haven't visited the vet yet due to financial reasons. I came across TWO youtube clips of two different dogs showing likewise symptoms that my maltese has been showing lately. It's been happening for about a week now.
Avatar f tn I just adopted a dog from pound 3 days after being home she came down with kennel cough she is being treated with antibotics, my question is should I get rid of her chew bones? can she reinfest with the cough if her phlem is on them ?
Avatar f tn It would probably be best to take your dog back to the vet for chest X-Rays to make sure that he is not developing pneumonia. Especially since your dog's cough has evolved from a dry cough to a productive cough with colored phlegm. He may need an additional antibiotic, cough medication, and additional diagnostics such as a culture and sensitivity or a transtracheal wash.
Avatar n tn Yea, sounds like kennel cough. Just make sure the new dog gets his shots, including the one for kennel cough. The dog with the bad cough most likely needs antibiotics and possibly a shot depending on the severity of the cough. A trip to the vet will do the trick. Sometimes, even after the shot and meds, the dog will continue to cough for about a month. My puppy seemed to get worse before he got better. It'll all work out. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I have spoken with my vet about kennel cough, but the cough does not sound like the dry, hacking cough of kennel cough. It is a very congested sounding cough. Also, we have had her on multiple doses of antibiotics, some of which were some very high-powered ones in combination with a low-dose steriod, which carry some very serious side effects for such a tiny puppy.
Avatar n tn Occasionally the kennel cough vaccine can cause a transient minor kennel cough in the recipient, Just as the flu vaccine can cause flu like symptoms in humans after vaccination. Or she could have additional problems as I mentioned previously. No vaccine is 100% effective, and if the coughing is that severe she should be on medicine to surpress her cough, because the cough itself can cause irritation, and pain.
Avatar f tn they are both on antobiotics and on the cough pill but now neither of them will eat and they are barley drinking and they just lay there and barley move I am so worried. what else besides kennel cough is contagious and makes dogs cough and become lathargic???? I do not want them to die!!!!
612551 tn?1450022175 Therefore, in addition to its antipruritic action, Temaril-P is recommended for the treatment of “kennel cough” or tracheobronchitis, bronchitis including all allergic bronchitis and infections and coughs of nonspecific origin. (Coughs due to cardiac insufficiencies would not be expected to respond to Temaril-P therapy.) As with any antitussive treatment, the etiology of the cough should be determined and eliminated if possible.
Avatar m tn She was boarded for the first time in September 2012 and very shortly thereafter presented with cough. Kennel cough was ruled out. She was treated with Zeniquin and Butorphanol with no improvement. Chest radiographs were normal and she does not have collapsing trachea. In October she had a scope and there was adequate laryngeal function. Steroids were started to treat a possible low grade allergic pharyngitis.
Avatar m tn Be sure your dog has been vaccinated for kennel Cough as this is quite common and a hacking cough is the cardinal sign in an otherwise, apparently healthy dog. An Herbal Canine Cough remedy you might consider that is helpful to relieve coughing associated with Canine Kennel Cough is Slippery elm and the dose is 5ml which is the equivalent of one teaspoon by mouth, as needed.
694466 tn?1227677802 Since then she has been sneezing when she gets excited or runs around too much. She also has been hacking. At first I thought it was kennel cough, but heartworm also seems to be a possibility. How can I tell which it is?
7378022 tn?1390751481 I took her from there to my vet to be checked out, and she started sneezing in the waiting area. My vet examined her, pressed on her throat which caused her to cough, and said she has kennel cough. I took her back to the shelter, they examined her, and said they don't think so. She has no discharge from her eyes or nose, and told me to watch for that.
Avatar f tn s just something you have to wait out. My vet told me that kennel cough is much more than just the cough, it affects their and suppresses their immune system drastically, making cough recovery a long time in some cases. Just keep giving them their meds, and keep a close watch on them and take them to the vet again if you feel the need is that great.
Avatar n tn His cough sounds dry like a honking goose. Took to vet he said could be kennel cough and put him on doxycycline but also said he heard a heart like murmur. The vet did say that the heart could have sounded like that cause of the dog not feeling well if it was kennel cough and/or being anxious. How did I have a vibrant healthy eating dog one day and a sick one the next. His appetite seems still to be ok. He just wants to eat anything else except his dry food at this time.
Avatar f tn It alsmost sounds like kennel cough. Is the white stuff foamy? The tooth loss sounds like her adult teeth are coming in??? Can you look in her mouth? Have you seen the lostteeth? If they are baby teeth they will be small and very sharp. When is she due back at the vet? She'll probably need antibiotics for the cough. Bordatella vaccine to prevent kennel cough. Sometimes it takes a couple of rounds of antibiotics for the cough. My dog did.
Avatar f tn It could be kennel cough. Kennel cough causes coughing that sounds like whopping cough and can be so severe that can actually lead to vomiting. Other possibilities are collapsing trachea, heart disease and allergies. Benadryl can be tried at 1 mg per pound. The average Shih Tzu would require a 12.5 mg. tablet up to 4 times per day. Kennel cough may require antibiotics and cough medicine, if severe.
568875 tn?1424397205 i dont know if this is even a good place to ask this but im pretty sure my great dane has kennel cough (going to call the vet when they open) but my question is i have a bad cough with lots of congestion and mucous..is it possible for pregnant women to catch this? or is it prob just a cold? i dont know if this is a dumb question or not..
Avatar n tn Days later, Zoe started in as well and I brought her to my normal vet and they said it was Kennel Cough and also gave her Clavomox. Almost a week later, they were no better. *Note- Zoe had bronchitis in July and was on a tough regimen of medicine and she got better. She also had rare moments where her trachea would constrict, causing a weird cough. The vet assured me that small dogs just sometimes do this. Back to the question- I brought them both to a different Vet.
Avatar f tn I have 2 boxers. Jersey and Stephie. Jersey starting having diarrhea real bad then he started coughing so hard he was dry heaving and nothing was coming out. So we went to the vet. He said he wasn't sure what was wrong n put him on some antibiotics n something for his stomach. That night the coughing got worse and kept us up all night. Took him back the next day n the vet said he had tracheitis and it wasn't an infection it was mechanical? Gave him a shot and another medicine.
Avatar f tn I have had a nagging cough for a long time. It isn't a long cough, just a short one and it seems to bring up a little flem as opposed to a dry cough. It happens perhaps a few times a day. I do have nasal drainage most of the time due to allergies. Is the cought related to that?
Avatar n tn Hello & welcome to the forum......Since the Antibiotics don't seem to be effective, I'm thinking this sounds more like "Kennel Cough" Or "Canine Influenza" which are both Viruses.....They have a lot of the same symptoms, but Kennel cough is the one most commonly diagnosed..... Each of these viruses can last up to anywhere from 2-4 weeks..... A Month is Common.....Both of these can also turn into Pneumonia....
507241 tn?1225491785 My vet diagnosed kennel cough yeterday in my 9 month old dog just adopted from a shelter. She was started on antibiotics.Today she is very lethargic and sleeping most of the time. Refused food today and I am very concerned I have read many topics on this but I don't see anything about the dog being so lethargic and not eating. She also refuses to let me open her mouth to give her the pill.
Avatar f tn When this happens he starts coughing and water sprays out of his nose . He’s got sick with kennel cough recently and I was worried about him coughing so I took him to the hospital bc I was afraid of heart disease or trachea collapse . Well he was fine , and the kennel cough went away after 5 days but then he kept drinking and dipping his nose underwater (this tends to happen when the bowl is full) and one time he got so much water up his nose it kept coming out of it .
Avatar n tn then maybe hes chewed something and its caught, kennel cough air bourne...if hes been around other dogs or in public...it would seems something is not right and that you probably already know... Tip: If my dog has a hair or something aggitating him, I give a little bread w/butter, the butter picks up the hair and the bread take is down the stomach... Good luck, keep the forum posted of your outcome...
Avatar n tn I agree with Karla, it sounds like Kennel Cough to me. Kennel cough often resolves itself as long as it's not a real serious case of it. There has been good results treating this disease with azithromycin. Sanchez is certainly an adorable little boy! I hope he is back to normal again soon! Please keep us updated.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your dog may have kennel cough (tracheobronchitis). It is a highly treatable condition and very common. She will need antibiotics and cough medicine, so please take her to the vet.
