Antihistamine ear congestion

Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine ear congestion

antihistamine

Avatar m tn This may help dry up the fluids that can cause the congestion and pain too. Often, the antihistamine can help the most. I would take one that dries such as benedryl if you can.
Avatar n tn Sometimes, when there is nasal congestion, ear symptoms such as ear fullness, pain and even ringing may also be observed. This is caused by the presence of the eustachian tube that connects the nose to the ear. Allergic reactions may also manifest with eye, skin and nasal symptoms. Drinking plenty of fluids and taking decongestants and antihistamine medications may help provide relief. If this is due to a viral infection, this usually resolve after a few days of rest and symptomatic relief.
Avatar m tn I experienced congestion, cough, and laryngitis a day or two after exposure to large amounts of hay and agricultural lime. Taking this into consideration, I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not it was a cold or just an alergic reaction. The symptoms have drastically decreased. My nose is still half-way stuffy, and I'm still spitting up white phlegm, but it's more of an annoyance now than anything else. Some people I've talked to think that it's post-nasal drip.
643681 tn?1223407715 The likely cause is chronic nasal congestion that ultimately in many patients will block the eustachean tube connecting the nose to the middle ear. This tube keeps the pressure in the middle and inner ear normal. The inner ear is also responsible for balance. Thus, if the inner ear is disturbed, such as an infection, which is usually viral, an affected patient will often complain of lightheadedness or dizziness.
Avatar f tn For about a month I have had this loud ear click in my left ear when I swallow. I can also hear it if I flex/voluntarily open up my ear. There's NO sign of congestion, infection, sinus problem, nor any pain or pressure. It is just a click/snap sound when I swallow now. It's pretty annoying and distracting and I've never had this problem before. Might I add that I am 5 months pregnant so I don't know if that would have something to do with the onset of this problem.
Avatar m tn t properly equalize my left ear during the free fall. By the time I landed, my left ear was in lots of pain, I couldn't hear out of it well, and it felt completely unequalized. After waking up today, it still feels somewhat unequalized and congested. I have a two hour flight in three days. Should I be worried about the flight at all? I'm a little worried I won't be able to equalize it by the time the flight comes. Is there any risk of damage to my ear from this?
1173196 tn?1292916490 You may have pregnancy Rhinitis I suffered with Fionn as well. If you call your doctor they might recommend a antihistamine or you can try more natural and do saline wash.
Avatar m tn Ear congestion - Blocked eustachian tubes. A bad head cold turned into a bad sinus and ear infection. Then, my ears got so congested it was hard to hear. I tried a variety of things. Finally, I went to the ear doctor, and she suggested an "ear popper". It is a small, handheld device which gently blows air into your nose. I guess it equalizes pressure inside and outside the eardrum or some such. After a day, my ears were clear most of the time.
Avatar f tn I have the same symptoms. Your Doctor should be able to give you an appropriate referrel. Tinnitus is a rule out game. I've had an MRI and CT scan that rule out the worse case scenario. My Doctor detected something abnormal on the ear pressure test so he's sending me back to see the head Doctor at the ENT clinic.
Avatar n tn t get results from taking an antihistamine, but as I do have congestion I have used the 12 hour Afrin spray (should not be used every night) with very good results. So that could be another test to try.
Avatar f tn Hi & Welcome....She's already taking an antihistamine (I would not add more).....Temaril-P is a combination drug consisting of antihistamine & a steriod. What I think she needs is LASIX (For the fluid retention). Normally for heart failure, Lasix are prescribed along with the heart meds. and can be given 1-3 times a day depending on the severity of the congestion. Once, the fluid is off her lungs, the cough and congestion will improve greatly.

Avatar f tn m spinning) only occurs while I am changing positions in the bed or lying down (most noticeable when I lye down on the left side with the left ear facing down on the pillow. Even though the vertigo is not present while sitting up or standing up, I still have this nagging headache in the frontal portion (where my sinuses are). I also feel pain sometimes on the occipital part of my head (the lower back-side of my head). I have also felt the pain on top of my head as well.

Avatar m tn Allergy headaches present with generalized headache, nasal congestion, and watery eyes. Seasonal allergens and antihistamine medications, as mentioned by dame may help provide relief. Avoidance of the trigger may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
12890058 tn?1430949251 Does anyone have any tricks for allergies and congestion? I usually get the allergy shot every 6 months - a year but with baby girl on her way I can only take pills and none of them work.. Any home remedies that have worked for you ladies?
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me if there is a better way for me to deal with ear problems casued by ear congestion during flights? Thanks. Mike B.
Avatar n tn Your Vet will have the best choices for congestion relief.....You don't state how old your pug is, but the excess fluids can related to many other diseases/ailments.....For example: If you use an antihistamine thinking it's an allergy when indeed it's really a heart problem, the antihistamine can make the heart worse, so you must get a diagnoses before you treat..... Licking air is usually Nausea or acid reflux....Post nasal drip normally causes a cough...
Avatar f tn Hello, I understand your discomfort. I dealt with it for several months as well. Allergies can cause the eustacian tubes to sbecome inflammed and not function properly. It is called Eustacian Tube Dysfunction (ETD). I would recommend that you try Zyrtec (or generic) instead of the Benadryl. It is a better antihistamine, doesn't cause drowsiness, and can be taken once a day instead of every 4 hours.
Avatar f tn Allergic headaches are generalized headache that also presents with nasal congestion or watery eyes. Nasal congestion sometimes lead to congested eardrum as well. This can be triggered by seasonal allergens, such as pollen, molds, but not to food. Antihistamine medication; topical, nasal cortisone related sprays or desensitization injections help relieve the symptoms. Take care always and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Although Augmentin kills certain types of bacteria and is used for lower respiratory, ear, urinary and sinus bacterial infections, does not necessarily mean it will get help a sore throat. To find out what type of bacteria is causing the sore throat and which antibiotic will kill that bacteria is to get a swab taken of your throat to identify the bacteria and then the correct antibiotic will be prescribed.
1232362 tn?1333135406 I've had a cold for a few days, I have asthma as well. I've never had an ear infection before. I've been experiencing intermittent ear pain in both ears, worse in left for 2 days. Will this clear up by itself or do I need antibiotics? There's no fluid but it's interfering with my sleep (I even dream there's bees in my ears!) it's moderately painful, no dizziness, low grade fever.
Avatar n tn symptoms like Eustachian Dysfunction, headache, dizziness, fatigue, and malaise? The area behind my ear is NOT tender, although the cartilage part of the affected ear canal does very occasionally feel a slight sharp pain and/or burning sensation. Here is some background: I suffered Otitis Media in late September, which was temporarily controlled by Amoxicillin.
Avatar f tn What it feels like is the chronic post nasal drip I have has caused congestion in my upper chest. However, the weird part is, I really have no cough, and the occasional cough has never brought anything up. In the past, if my chest begins to feel this way, it is followed by the painful cough and coughing stuff up. I would not call what I have sometimes as pain, it feels more like irritation. When I am active, as well as when I drink a lot of water, it seems to be much better.
Avatar n tn It started out as a sore throat, and then it turned into a lot of nasal congestion. I have been taking Mucinex D to clear the congestion, and that has worked well. My problem now is that I have a very wet sounding cough that seems to flare up in the morning when I am getting ready for work and then again in the evening right before bed. I am coughing up mucus, although it is all clear (and has been throughout the entire cold). It just concerns me that the cough is hanging around for so long.
Avatar f tn Feburary 16th I woke up with a extremely painful earache and lost my ability to hear in my left ear. I went to a walk in clinic the following day for the Doctor to briefly look into my ear and said it was "buldging" she sent me home with Doxycycline and OTC Allegra and told me to come back in 3 days if there was no improvement.
9263335 tn?1403463032 Does anyone know of any good medicines that work or any homemade remedies for a nasal congestion, coughing, & clogged ear? I've had this constantly for about two months now & nothing seems to work for me & I feel like I'm going death because my ear is fine one day & then it hurts the next & I can't hear.
Avatar f tn It will drain with the antihistamine. They like you to take the pseudafed because it does clear the ear sinus faster but personally I can't take it. But take either one type of pseudafed or Benedril. The ringing will clear I would leave you ears alone unless you have the doctors clean the wax out The ear drainage or possible infection is causing the hazy sound and the dizziness. You just need rest and to dry up the ear without putting anything else in it.
