Avatar n tn I agree that this could be a viral ear thing rather than an infection. Just because your ear drum is "inflamed" does not necessarily mean infection. Inflammation can also sometimes occur from allergies (although wiht a fever this isn't as likely). For the fever you might want to try either ibuprofen as stated above or tylenol - of course, making sure that neither will interefere wiht any other meds you are on (you can ask your pharmacist this question).

Avatar m tn I seen doc and had ears flushed, but ringing still is constant and earache still comes and goes. I was given Augmenting for possible ear infection, but my right ear still still constantly rings and now I have pain in the side of my neck where the eustacion tube probably runs. The ringing is driving me crazy, and I need desperate help.
Avatar n tn Drinking plenty of fluids and taking decongestants and antihistamine medications may help provide relief. If this is due to a viral infection, this usually resolve after a few days of rest and symptomatic relief. However, if it persists, you may need to have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Hi, A lump behind the ear in children could be due to throat infection, insect bite, accidental trauma to the site, ear infection , etc. Lymph nodes in the region are known as post auricular lymph nodes and can enlarge secondary to infection, inflammation, etc. You could try some warm compresses at the site, warm saline gargles for his sore throat and some oral antihistamine medications for the swelling. Does he have any other symptoms of fever, etc?
Avatar n tn Usually a swollen lymph node behind the ear is probably a virus or ear or throat infection. Is the lymph node small or large? It is normal for the lymph nodes to swell even when you don't have symptoms it means you are fighting something off. That is the job of the white blood cells inside the lymph nodes. It will pass.
Avatar n tn If it is fluid in your ear, he may give you a prescription for an antihistamine, Meclizine, antibiotics if it is an infection, and possibly a water pill for the fluid. the diarrhea could be caused by a number of things. If it persists, I would see a doctor. Hope this helps and hope you feel better soon.

Avatar f tn And as well can be an infection in the inner ear, and can be other possible causes creating a high pressure in the inner ear. Middle ear problems I don't know well enough to suggest any possibilities other than what Carol suggests. Inner ear problems all mimic each other so it is hard to diagnose them.
643681 tn?1223407715 The inner ear is also responsible for balance. Thus, if the inner ear is disturbed, such as an infection, which is usually viral, an affected patient will often complain of lightheadedness or dizziness. If dizziness is being caused by sinusitis in your case, then treatment of sinusitis only will lead to its improvement.
1635132 tn?1305063930 Hi, Dramamine or dimenhydrinate is usually indicated for nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. This antihistamine also treat other motion and balance problems or inner ear problems. If your headache is associated with allergies, this medicine may greatly help stop histamine release. Talk to your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn For about a month I have had this loud ear click in my left ear when I swallow. I can also hear it if I flex/voluntarily open up my ear. There's NO sign of congestion, infection, sinus problem, nor any pain or pressure. It is just a click/snap sound when I swallow now. It's pretty annoying and distracting and I've never had this problem before. Might I add that I am 5 months pregnant so I don't know if that would have something to do with the onset of this problem.
Avatar n tn So I've been having issues with my ear since I went swimming one day and heard a weird pop like thing? It happened in April of last year, and no matter what I do it doesn't go away. I've expressed this to the doctors, but they all say there's nothing wrong. It starts like a sharp pain like around the jaw line, and at it's worst points it feels swollen, my throat is sore on the right side, and I can't hear right in that right ear.
Avatar f tn I got a cold last week, and on the 2nd day, my ears blocked. 8 days later, cold is gone, ears are still blocked. I saw a doctor yesterday, who said my ears locked fine : no wax builup, no sign of infection. So he prescribed cortisone oral pills for 7 days. I've been taking them for 2 days now and still no improvement. How long will it take to get some relief ? My ears get a lot worse during the evenings, where the pressure is higher and I feel a slight vibration in my ear.
Avatar n tn When I get it, it comes on fast, causing me to vomit, An MRI on my brain shows no abnormalities, bleeding or lesions. An ear, nose and throat specialist saw no infection in my outer ear. He did prescribe a decongestant and antihistamine. Sometimes, the foods I eat causes my constant ear ringing to become worse and my sinuses to become dry. My left ear feels plugged. Any idea on the cause?. My left ear ringing and feeling of fullness are constant.
Avatar f tn Please note, if you are taking any meds (other than the antibiotics), or under the care of a physician (other than for the ear infection), PLEASE be sure and talk to your doctor before trying anything, even over the counter meds - to make sure that they would not interfere either with your medical condition/s or your current meds.
Avatar f tn oh he is aware of it after the fact, i have seen this doctor since he came into our town after my last one retired, i have been seeing an ent ever since my birth because my right ear drum was perforated at my birth, i have had Eustachian Tube Dysfunction all my life, i got sick last year with the worst ear infection i had ever had it and when he first seen it again he said that my ear drum was thickening and retracting then, he wasnt aware that i had the cholesteatoma he was unable to do the Ty
Avatar n tn They seem pretty keen on treating the infections when I get them, but not finding a way to stop them. I get an ear infection in my right ear every time I get a cold or the seasons change. Is there any kind of surgery I can have to open up my Eustachian tube so it drains properly and I'm not plagued with ear infections? Please help!
Avatar f tn what has happened you have a pressure block in your nasal and ear canal the best way to fix it is to return to the altitude you went just before your ear got clogged. There is some things I have done that Ear doctors do recommend if you don't know how to do it. I would suggest seeing a ear specialist for wax or ear blockage. I had that happen years a go when I flew to IL and ears were blocked for 6 weeks until I got back on the plane to fly home.
Avatar f tn Another thing that my doctor recommends beside the reverse ear pop technique he taught me is to take an antihistamine. Not sure why, but it does help. If this continues, see your doctor.
