antihistamine and sleep

I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it

What kind were you taking?

HAVE YOU TRIED AN antihistamine like benedryl. it helps with the sneezes and to sleep a little. i actually took 3 at a time...thats not quite as directed but i needed to sleep. i know where you are i too c/t'd from oxy and it is hell. you are close to turning the corner so hang on. i am 70+ days clean and i feel great. have some cravings from time to time but i get through them. i posted to skippysizemore earlier about scroll down and read that post it might help you.

So I would say ask your doctor if your meds would not interact right with your current meds. I have copd moterately severe and use benedryl for sleep, and am benefited by the antihistamine as well. Good luck to you! I hope this helped.

help i need sleep on day 8. i toss and turn worse now than in the first few days of w/ds.. could this be paws? does anyone have any ideas how to sleep. took melatonia and nyquil last night.

I have been on Ambien and other sleep aides prescribed by doctors and they never mentioned it interferring with my TSH level. I had a TT due to graves disease almost 15yrs ago. Insomnia was the only symptom that never went away... Currently I am on Ambien to help me sleep, but I only take it once every seven days because it will not work if i take it more than that.

My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.

I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.

I have used it a few times. It works great and I don't feel groggy the next day! I sleep sound with it and it doesn't seem to mess with the baby. She is still active in the morning after I take it. I'm 38+2 and haven't had any problems with it!!

I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.

I suspect it is also in NyQuil or any other OTC that advertises sleep help. It is an antihistamine. Quix pointed out recently that it can cause excitement and may make RLS worse.

Ya I agree with wannabefree330 I am on Vistaril for sleep I didnt want to take Ambien again so my doctor put me on it to help me sleep, he said in was just an antihistamine until a few clean months pass and I can sleep on my own again! yay! looking forward to that.

I have had two separate ablation therapy on my heart now and due to have another in October this year. I occasionally take tylenol pm for poor sleep and backache when I wake. Someone mentioned to me that the antihistamine in these tablets may cause some of the problem?

Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?

Can I take esomeprazole,diazepam,antihistamine( Given by doc to help sleep ). Green tea capsules,cranberry pills,multivitamins and kanna together please? And on days I don't take my diazepam can i take valerian instead with these other supplements? Please advise. Thanks.

How many of you have this and what do you do for it? I know we have talked about it on here before, but I am really having an awful time. My right ear constantly hurts and I have constant pnd and I keep getting sick with sinusitis and bronchitis. I can't even sleep at night. I already take zyrtec and rhinocort for allergies on top of all of the other meds I take for pain and reflux. I am seeing an allergist in August and I am going back to my pcp tomorrow for the millionth time. Any advice?

Not sure if I shared with u when I went to the ER this summer I was told to take an antihistamine along with pain meds, and found that I sleep better in taking them...non drowsy for the day and the reg drowsy formula b4 bed....

If you are not taking anything prescribed for your allergies, you can try an OTC antihistamine like Sudafed, as well. If using an antihistamine be aware that it will show up in drug tests, and can cause you to fail them. So always make the tester aware you are taking them before hand should you need a test done for work etc. I Hope This Helps.

I would be careful taking Advil PM as it has an antihistamine in it and might make RLS worse. I mistakenly took Nyquil with an antihistamine in it and had the shakes real bad. So be cautious..

She sleeps 1 day sleep of between 45 and 90 min, but still wakes up very grumpy. She throws herself around as if having a tantrum. I have given her some panado, but she still doesn't wake up a happy child. The last 3 days have been the worst! Please help!

I have had a lot of mucus build-up when I wake up in the middle of the night and find it very difficult to return to sleep. I keep trying to swallow what's caught over and over. Also, after having all this stuff draining into my stomach all night it feels upset the next morning. I broke my leg and was given Hydrocodone pills for a few months and guess what zero problems of any kind with nasal drip at night or stomach problems during the day.
