666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
406036 tn?1216188561 I think you'll be fine here. Generally the docs. don't write a script for cough syrup unless you've got a hacking unproductive one that keeps you from sleep. Otherwise, something like Delsym 12 hour is awesome. There are even lots of Rx cough syrups with diff. opiates in them like with codeine, which is known for it's cough suppressive properties. There are lots of different Tussi formulations too with different meds. in them, some with opiates, some without.
2103516 tn?1350948515 OMG... just wanted to give a heads up on this. Unless you regularly consume caffeine I would highly discourage anyone from taking these for pain management. They left me extremely jittery, palms super clammy, heart racing and just feeling really terrible for several hours... now I am completely exhausted from the ordeal and still have to complete my work day and go home to take care of my son. Ugh.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
Avatar n tn Some opiates cause histamine release-- particularly morphine-- that can cause itching and a rash. Some high-potency synthetic opiates--namely fentanyl and sufentanil-- cause facial itching, particularly around and inside the nose. Some medications can cause a feeling of extreme restless called 'akathesia' that sometimes presents as intense itchiness over the body, especially the legs.
Avatar f tn Look at all the ingredients in the supplement causing the problem and eliminate them one by one.
351404 tn?1299489130 Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?
4597556 tn?1383305043 hi im not doing to bad trouble sleeping tossing and turning I guess that's part of it, but I will take a antihistamine that seems to help me sleep , I don't have any zanax and I don't want to get hooked on that crap wds on benzos is deadly and alcohol , thank god not on opiates, again thanks for all your help john
Avatar f tn It is very common to be itchy while using any opiates. Any antihistamine should help you and if you have specific areas, a over the counter topical cream (hydrocortisone) will help too.
Avatar n tn Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine and is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itching and other allergies. So, as mentioned above it dries out the secretions and hence is not recommended in lung disorders. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn try clariton oral, nasal crom and allaway(eyes) or just try the clariton and alaway first and if needed add the nasalceom. I have severe allergies to cats and dogs, pollen etc. and it works for me.
885702 tn?1240942263 This is the final part of a three part series (the first two are posted for me by user avisg - thank you avisg for your help in that!) This section will deal with what you can expect when going from a minimal (under 5 milligram dose) methadone dose to 0 dose and after. Please note that I noticed most people tend to skip "Part One" of this series and I strongly suggest reading it along with the more medically useful, fact based Part II.
Avatar f tn The next time i had morphine was about a month later (shoulder again) and i got a rash all over my body so they gave me an shot of antihistamine (poor spelling) and the rash went down. So 6 weeks ago i had surgery on my shoulder and told the doctors about the reaction to the morphine they said they'd put a red band on me to make sure i wasn't given any morphine but they didn't in the end.
Avatar n tn Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Wear lose comfortable clothes. Wash all your linen and towels etc with a disinfectant solution. Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.
Avatar f tn They had given me a steroid shot and steroid pills to continue taking for about 8-10 days. Along with a antihistamine. They worked and rash was cleared up. The same rash appeared about 2 weeks later again i went to the doctor and they did the same routine (steroid and antihistamine). Cleared up again. Now 2 weeks later the same rash is back but not as severe. This time there is redness in my face as well.
Avatar f tn 3 years ago I had a 5 month period of hives along with swollen glands and a fever. This would come and go and the welts were not itchy and took a few weeks to go away and they left a discolorment on me for about a week and them vanished. About three days ago I felt like I was coming down with the flu. My glands became swollen and I got a fever with chills and the next day hives started forming. First on my back them chest, now my legs.
Avatar n tn The doctor checked my testosterone level due to and adverse affect of opiates, and I didnot have any. He put me on supplemental testosterone, but I have read it would come back naturally and taking supplements will stop the natural production of my testosterone. Anyone had this issue.
Avatar f tn Blonde B, we suggested Mommy tell her OB because Mommy is not the first person who has come on here pregnant and has used opiates that weren't prescribed. And those that have told have been ok and have peace of mind. There are also members in here that now have clean time who have been in the position. We most certainly don't see Mommy as an unfit parent. We see her as the exact opposite, she would not have come here if she did not care about herself or the baby she is carrying.
Avatar f tn Hi, I take Subutex and am pregnant. I need to know what the best course of action is. My psychiatrist who prescribes the Subutex has no idea about pregnancy. My OB/GYN just referred me to a pain clinic, who also said they could not help me. My question is - what kind of specialist can I talk to about being opiate dependent and pregnant? I want to maximize the safety of the pregnancy and hopefully taper off the opiates, but I can't find a doctor to help! Thank you!
Avatar n tn if I took high doses in the beginning of my pregnancy and am now on 15mg and stay that way until I deliver will my baby be born addicted? Has anyone else been in this situation? I know I am physically addicated to these things but I can go at least 17-20hours without taking one. I do it everyonce in a while just to make sure I can!
