Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine and narcotic

antihistamine

Avatar f tn Antihistamines like benadryl will help with the discomfort. Is she taking an antihistamine? I have seen people who are allergic to them and their symptoms become worse.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar n tn I have had a lot of mucus build-up when I wake up in the middle of the night and find it very difficult to return to sleep. I keep trying to swallow what's caught over and over. Also, after having all this stuff draining into my stomach all night it feels upset the next morning. I broke my leg and was given Hydrocodone pills for a few months and guess what zero problems of any kind with nasal drip at night or stomach problems during the day.
Avatar n tn However, phenylephedrin is a decongestant, benadryl is an antihistamine and vicodin is a narcotic pain reliever. The concern would be that both bendryl and the vicodin would cause drowziness on their own. They would magnify that effect when taken together. You might want to take Zyrtec instead of the benadryl as Zyrtec doesn't cause the drowziness that benadryl does. Other than that, they are safe to take together, but don't drive and limit other activities. Take care.
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
461838 tn?1255790216 I am really struggling right now, trying to work at my job outside during the construction season. My GI would not reccomend anything stronger than tylenol and ibuprofren, and to take them as prescribed. Is there anything else you might recommend. The pollen allergies are really enhancing my headaches now.
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
351404 tn?1299489130 Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?
Avatar f tn In the meantime you can apply Calamine lotion and take an Antihistamine to help relieve your symptoms. Also you should avoid scratching your skin because it can intensify the itchiness. Take care...
Avatar f tn I would suggest that in USA there is a pain reliever called percogesic that contains tylenol and an antihistamine that is very effective for pain. But let me stress that chronic overuse of tylenol can also cause kidney failure as well as liver damage. My feet are a mess as well from the RA.I think you have no option but to take the T3 but to keep it at a minimum and it will be more effective and less addicting. You really are in a bind because of the kidney damage.
Avatar n tn I was wondering where the best place for me would be to find a complete list of medicines I should stay away from with Long QT syndrome. I have a list but it is over 5 years old, and I am in need of a new one! Thank You!
983679 tn?1276833336 My husband uses Flector Patches. They are non narcotic patches prescribed by your doctor and are AMAZING for pain. I am on subutex now and I when I had to actually start dealing with my pain again he gave me one and it worked wonderfully. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn Taking an antihistamine may help you since that is part of your regimen currently mixed with the narcotic. Corticosteriods to reduce immflamation. Ibuprofen. And daily nasal lavage. These things greatly helped my husband. I'm sure you do not want to be on scheduled substances your entire life so try to wean and look for relief elsewhere.
Avatar m tn Tramadol IS a narcotic - not sure what your Dr. told you, but google it and you'll see. It's a synthetic opiate and anti-depressant and the withdrawal I had (it was my DOC for years) was the worst experience of my life. This was only my experience, but I can tell you there's an entire thread for tramadol addicts and their individual roads to recovery. It's a messed up drug. Poison in my opinion.
Avatar n tn Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine and is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itching and other allergies. So, as mentioned above it dries out the secretions and hence is not recommended in lung disorders. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I am abusing it and I know it. I just came to my senses Saturday and I am on my 2nd day of being clean....ahhhhhh! I feel so damn depressed, its unreal. Sweaty, sad, anxious, horrid thoughts. What is some advice on what I should do, cause right now I want to go spend money I don't have on pills....please help.
Avatar f tn After reading your post it gives me some hope. Thank you and congrats to being 90+days clean. Can you please tell me how you did it. What sort of habit did you have and how did you get off of them? Did you do a taper plan or just go cold turkey? Excuse me for asking so many questions its just that I need as much info as possible. I wasn't strong enough this morning when I woke up, I was throwing up and had gone the whole night in and out of sleep so I took the last two I had.
Avatar f tn So, while some people abuse their opioid medications (or would if they could), some PCPs are looking for any excuse to drop a pain patient -- and PCPs are the primary pain providers in America, with 100,000,000 people in pain, and only 3,500 trained pain specialists. There's too many grandparents out there who have been dismissed from a practice because of a false UDT or because another of their physicians prescribed an opioid and they filled the medication w/o realizing the consequences.
Avatar f tn Treatment involves early recognition of the syndrome, an effective physician–patient relationship, graded withdrawal of the narcotic according to a specified withdrawal program, and the institution of medications to reduce withdrawal effects
Avatar n tn Doesnt matter that the excedrin has the caffeine and acetaminophen. It needs the narcotic (dihydrocodeine) or equivalent to keep you from getting sick. I would try 800mg ibuprophen and...alternate heat and cold for the pain. Good luck to you also.......
Avatar m tn Methadone is still a narcotic, and does nothing for pain, right? That sounds like the exact opposite of what I need?
Avatar f tn Let me start with an important fact: I'm NOT a doctor; I'm a 28 year old, married claims adjuster from the mid-west. I do, however, have an opinion on this subject. I have pancreatic divisum, which presented itself when I was 17 years old through a severe attack of acute pancreatitis.
