Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine and ms

antihistamine

Avatar n tn However, phenylephedrin is a decongestant, benadryl is an antihistamine and vicodin is a narcotic pain reliever. The concern would be that both bendryl and the vicodin would cause drowziness on their own. They would magnify that effect when taken together. You might want to take Zyrtec instead of the benadryl as Zyrtec doesn't cause the drowziness that benadryl does. Other than that, they are safe to take together, but don't drive and limit other activities. Take care.
Avatar m tn Using the EAE mouse model for multiple sclerosis (MS), the inventors have shown that the disease course and severity can be ameliorated with daily administration of antihistamine. This approach has the potential for treating MS with less side-effects and more convenient dosing than current therapeutic interventions. Stage of Research EAE mice treated daily with anti-histamine receptor 1 have decreased disease severity and delayed onset of the disease compared to controls.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it

Avatar f tn Hi. I'm no doc, but sounds like allergies. Have you tried an antihistimene? I know my eyes get itchy due to allergies - it comes and goes and never amounts to anything. Just annoying. And I'm not dx with any allergies - i just know I have seasonal due to the way my body acts. Good luck .
Avatar f tn Behold, she says it could absolutely be related to solumedrol and gave me Rx strrength antihistamine for night and OTC antihistamine for day (got to stay awake at work). She also said, and this is the part I don't like, if this approach doesn't work, she may have to put me on oral prednisone and back the steroids out of my system.
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
351404 tn?1299489130 Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?
Avatar m tn My face and lips experienced some burning sensation and I felt weak and heavy in my calf muscles. My doctor put me on antihistamine and the facial burning sensation reduced. However I started to experience burning sensation in my head - scalp. Sometimes it felt like acid thrown on it and sometime it felt like a my hair had been pulled too long and the area in the head was sore. Blood work showed low B12 (247) and Vitamin D (8).
Avatar f tn m wondering if any of you have heard of this, or do take the antihistamine. Right now I take Panadol and do my injection right before bed to try and sleep through it.
620048 tn?1358018235 Just wanted to write this before i don't do it..its not nessarily the MS but it could be the drugs. I now am 3/4 covered with hives now and I can't get another shot for another six weeks..so i am on a mission..might be slow one though. Copaxone came to mind so I called Shared Solutions and got the usual run-around and I have a call into Dr. C , my MS spec., ..i hope it isn't copaxone that is causing it.

Avatar n tn Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine and is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, itching and other allergies. So, as mentioned above it dries out the secretions and hence is not recommended in lung disorders. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn try clariton oral, nasal crom and allaway(eyes) or just try the clariton and alaway first and if needed add the nasalceom. I have severe allergies to cats and dogs, pollen etc. and it works for me.
634733 tn?1316625992 we rely on our medical doctors and MS Team to help us when we are facing another challenge...and although they have tried to nothing seems to have helped you and this is tough.
Avatar n tn Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Wear lose comfortable clothes. Wash all your linen and towels etc with a disinfectant solution. Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.
Avatar f tn This past fall I began experiencing tingling in my arms and legs, and my hands began going numb and changing colors in response to cold temperatures. I didn’t see a doctor at that time because the tingling sensations were more a nuisance than a major disruption and I also was fairly convinced that I had Raynaud’s. However, in May I began experiencing dizziness and fatigue, which prompted me to see a doctor at a walk-in clinic.
Avatar f tn They had given me a steroid shot and steroid pills to continue taking for about 8-10 days. Along with a antihistamine. They worked and rash was cleared up. The same rash appeared about 2 weeks later again i went to the doctor and they did the same routine (steroid and antihistamine). Cleared up again. Now 2 weeks later the same rash is back but not as severe. This time there is redness in my face as well.
620048 tn?1358018235 And cataplexy/narcolopesy can be present from birth and in other cases it can be caused by a lesion in the brain that affects that region, i.e. as commonly seen in MS. And a few other diseases. (Yes, my online research actually said that.) So my insomina is severe. This is something that I am working on with my neuro. My PCP will not prescribe anything for me. The cataplexy makes it complex. You have to be careful not to over medicate.
