Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine and melatonin

antihistamine

Avatar f tn I've never taken that but usually with expired medications the only trouble is they may not be as effective. You could also call and ask a pharmacist; they're so knowledgeable. And if you don't have access to valerian root or melatonin, maybe you could order it online? I've never tried he valerian root but I love melatonin. It works great!
Avatar f tn I would be careful taking Advil PM as it has an antihistamine in it and might make RLS worse. I mistakenly took Nyquil with an antihistamine in it and had the shakes real bad. So be cautious..
Avatar f tn Like gizzy said sleep is one of the last things to return to normal. Try the melatonin or an over the counter sleep aide and lots of exercise, exercise is the best remedy............. Keep going...........
1310435 tn?1273598077 Hi, katiefaye. Have you spoken to your doctor about this? I have sleep apnea as well as insomnia. I've taken Melatonin (an over the counter item), Rozerem (works well, and is a prescription item), and now I'm taking Tofranil(orescription) to help with my chronic headaches AND insomnia. There is also a brand of antihistamine that helps with sleep, too. Your best bet, again, is to speak with your doctor. Good luck.
Avatar m tn All I need is a good 7-8 hours, nothing more..nothing less. I have been off and on on Melatonin and the Nyquil sleep drug (can't remember what's it's called). Just looking for some suggestions, or personal experiences using Melatonin or Nyquil drug (DCL?) long term. I have also thought about Valerian. If Ambien has worked well for you, tell me about it. If you've had bad side effects, I'd like to know that too. Any advice, personal experience is welcomed. Cheers!
Avatar f tn I agree, try Melatonin - it works great to help with sleep. For me, I only need to take a half a pill now to help me sleep. It's a natural substance in our bodies and sometimes we become depleted and thus causes issues with sleeping. Good luck!
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
518031 tn?1295575374 well it is 3;42 am and still no sleep havent slept since thursday when i started to detox.
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
1255563 tn?1289427231 That was fun to google -- lots of porn there. This appears to be a pharmaceutical product combining three medications for cold and cough. The antihistamine part apparently can be sedating, as so many medications are, but as it's a side effect and you can't take too much of it, I'd probably give this a pass. I'd try some melatonin 1mg and see if that helps.
Avatar n tn Go to your pdoc and tell him/her about it... You need to taper off of it slowly under doctor's supervision...
527657 tn?1214051850 I was perscirbed two ativan for sleep and I still cannot sleep. I called my pharmacist and asked if i could take an over the counter sleeping aid with the ativan and she said yes. So about a week ago i started taking tylenol pm right before sleep. Within i would say ten min i am sleeping and i sleep through the night execpt for going to the rest room. Does anyone else to this?
Avatar f tn The two primary ingredients in Alteril are L-Tryptophan and Melatonin. L-Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that is present in virtually all plant and animal proteins. When it is absorbed into the body, it is ultimately converted into a neurotransmitter serotonin. Melatonin has been used for years to promote sleep. I have never taken it. But I would if I felt I needed help sleeping. I used Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) when I was going rough. Both are over the counter.
Avatar m tn OTC sleeping pills containing antihistamine will wire you more. Natural stuff like melatonin and allteril are ok but may or may not work. And prescription sleeping pills will work but put off the inevitable which is having to do it yourself at some point. I honestly think that sleeping pills just put off the WDs and the normal sleeping pattern will take longer to return. That's just been my experience. Sleeping pills are SO super, crazy addictive.
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn However, higher doses may keep some people awake and may also cause mental impairment, severe headaches, and nightmares. Although melatonin may not have many benefits for most people with chronic insomnia, studies suggest that it may help travelers with jet lag and people with delayed sleep syndrome. http://health.nytimes.com/health/guides/symptoms/sleeping-difficulty/medications.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
Avatar m tn It is very relaxing and has something in it that makes you sleepy (something that is not addictive). And also melatonin will help you relax and sleep. As for the itchy skin, try taking some OTC benedryl, the antihistimine that is in the mersyndol could be causing the itchiness since you are not taking it anymore.
Avatar f tn Does melatonin give you all three stages of REM or is it mostly to help with the most superficial phase, the dream phase? I understand that melatonin is a hormone secreted at night, and how it is not a drug, but I am just wondering if there is a link between dreams and melatonin.
1063764 tn?1272821064 It's hard to see exactly where they would interact, since they work on completely different physiological processes. Then again, everyone has their own peculiarities when it comes to this stuff. Melatonin is a hormone made naturally by the body to set the body clock and as an antioxidant. It doesn't affect serotonin in any direct way, but obviously if you're not sleeping well it won't help serotonin do its thing.
351404 tn?1299489130 Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?
Avatar f tn HI hope you have a better nigght most of the otc sleep aids have benadrill in them for some it ok for a lot of others it makes things a lot worst my advise is stay away from antihistamines for sleep and go with natural stuff like valarian root or melatonin if you use the melatonin tery about 6mg and the room has to be completely dark no night light even I also found the sleepytime tea they sell at walmart to be very effective just one cup 1/2 hr b/4 bed all of this will be in vein until your ini
Avatar f tn Is melatonin and welbutrin incompatible? I read a post just now that gives me the impression that melatonin works against the AD? I'm going to google this...
Avatar f tn I use the Melatonin now and then..In my 7m from 3 meds I was on..I could not take the Melatonin with any Meds..No Scrip, OTC , Anything...I had to use it alone..I would have a adverse reaction if I did not..Now I sleep like a baby with out anything...
5068589 tn?1363118326 But I have still been taking melatonin and benidryl and sometimes a couple tylonal. I also take a claritin every morning. Wondering now if the two benidryl at night have side effects long term??? anyone know if taking them religiously ever night to help knock you out is a problem? I still wake up early morning hours.
