Avatar m tn For this, there are steroidal sprays for allergic rhinitis and steroid inhalers for asthma. The steroid content is very minimal in both, sprays and inhalers and long-term use will prevent attacks. When you have an attack, you can use an antihistamine (like Cetzine) for allergic rhinitis. Cetzine is not a steroid and all antihistamines will have some sedative effects. For wheezing, during the attacks, you can use Asthalin. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hi, Before considering Xolair, you need to make sure that you have covered all other allergy treatments - testing and immunotherapy, good antihistamine (like Zyrtec and Allergra), strict allergen exposure controll... Your insurance company will require "proof" that all these measures have been tried before aproving Xolair treatment. If that doesn't improve your asthmna, it sounds like Xolair maybe a good option for you.
Avatar m tn It is evident from your history that you could most probably be suffering from allergic rhinitis and asthma. Both these diseases are usually triggered by an allergen. These allergens, when exposed to initiate immune mediated reactions which will result in the symptoms you experience. The allergic history usually runs in families. Asthma can be detected by a spirometry test, and it may not be detected with an x ray or a CT scan. So, the problem can be tackled at three levels.
Avatar m tn No not typically. Normally Asthma patients have a wheeze. Itchy throat and watery eyes sounds like allergies. You can take over the counter meds like Benadryl this type of med has antihistamine in it and it should stop your problems.
Avatar n tn hi i am a very healthy 44 year old woman.but i developed this condition where my chest fills with mucus and i can't take a breathe.i don't have asthma or any other health problems.i went to the emeregency room and the doctor told me to cough up the mucus.thats hard to do when you can't breathe.i mean i literally cannot get air in my lungs until i gasp up to 20 seconds which feels like forever.
Avatar f tn s what i usually do when i catch a flu and my asthma flares up. and usually my asthma and cough would go away for about a few days. but i noticed after a week of taking cough syrup w/ salbutamol that my coughing is not getting better. so i went to visit my doctor after a few days and by then i was on my second week with cough. she told me that i should focus on treating my asthma so i nebulized on that visit and prescribed me a inhaler. i felt the relief but my cough and breathing is still bad.
Avatar f tn Hi, You should get a chest xray and lung function testing to rule out asthma and also any lung involvement. Do you have any cough, wheeze, breathlessness, allergic symptoms , etc? You should take oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine and it will help with your symptoms. Also take steam inhalation and saline nasal drops several times a day. Do you have symptoms of GERD?
Avatar f tn Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene . Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin. Let us know about how you are doing and if you need any other information. Post us about what your doctor advises. Regards.
Avatar n tn A number a years ago the connection between NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - aspirin, ibuprofin, Aleve, naproxin...) and increased asthma risk was made public. I had mild asthma attacks at the time with ibuprofin and stopped taking them. Within the last year, reports started coming out that Tylenol (acetaminophen) can also trigger asthma attacks. Honestly, you are not alone.
Avatar f tn There is asthma and reactive airway disease (basically similar to asthma but a bit more mild). It also could mild asthma that only flares during colds (mine only flares during colds and allergy season, rest of the time I don't use any meds). You have done the right thing - continue to use her "blue inhaler" aka ventolin or rescue inhaler until her symptoms are gone. If she gets worse or the inhaler is not working or lasting at least 4 hours, its time for a doc visit.
Avatar f tn just got stung 6 times by bees extremely painful and i have asthma what should i do
Avatar f tn Pregnancy may be complicated by new-onset or preexistent allergic disease, including rhinitis, anaphylaxis, urticaria and angioedema, and atopic dermatitis. Pregnancy and asthma is extensively studied. Of the currently available preparations, chlorpheniramine has been recommended as the first generation antihistamine of choice for use during pregnancy. Based on the information available, loratadine or cetirizine may be considered the second generation antihistamines of choice.
Avatar m tn About 20 minutes after I had it my stomach started cramping up and nausea, asthma and mucus in my nose. Not sure if the asthma might have been trigged by the nausea but my inhaler reversed it. Still feeling pretty sick. It's been about 35 minutes and not feeling well, not at all. My stomach muscles just want to throw up and are staying really tight. I'm trying to let my stomach settle down so I can get some antihistamine in me. Does this sound like just a bad upset stomach or allergy?
Avatar m tn There are times where I feel like my lungs are tight or have some mucous in them, but when I use my peak flow meter I'm 85%-100% of my personal best. Does anyone else experience this? Does it mean I'm really not having asthma symptoms and should not use my inhaler (although it feels like I should)? Or maybe there's an aspect of my asthma that is not being addressed?
453255 tn?1205792176 I have anaphylaxis and severe asthma, and I have several known anaphylactic triggers, (such as all treenuts, certain types of pollen, and raw fruit - especially apples) - but my new allergist I recently met with explained to me the reason I am allergic to raw fruit such as apples, peaches, pairs plumbs is because of a condition called "Oral Allergy Syndrome" where my tongue recognizes the fruit as pollen in its raw state.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
Avatar m tn I am able to control the asthma mostly with antihistamine. Every once and a while I have regular asthma and I just use my rescue inhaler and stop what I am doing or leave the area. Walking past smokers will set off the asthma or Bleach, Clorine. Many irritants do it. If I get away fast it will undo, if too long I would require an inhaler to reverse it. My I ask. What do they look for when taking a chest X-ray. I thought they just wanted to make extra money from me.
Avatar f tn If i will come to contact with cold immediately i develope hives. And m jus avoiding cold and using those antihistamine and fexa so, what can i do for complete recovery? And my ESR rate is also high its 25 what can i do for that? Need some suggestion for good prognosis.
Avatar f tn Every time i smell a strong odour my airways really narrow and i have to take a deep breath in to open them again. I don't have asthma, so what's causing this?
568429 tn?1216770861 Hi. Consider starting a daily antihistamine. I'd repeat it on schedule because once it wears off more than likely you will have a reaction then. I can't even take my allergy shots with out antihistamine in me. I take it every day and once extra (twice on shot day) 30 minutes before my shots. With out antihistamine I do have reactions. You might be having more of a reaction than just hives. Sorry to hear this. When I first started my shots it was hard for me too.
