Common Questions and Answers about Antihistamine and antibiotics

antihistamine

Avatar f tn As the doctors diagnosed a staph infection and prescribed antibiotics before a skin scraping was taken, depending on how many days they have been on the antibiotics and if they were prescribed the correct one, the skin scraping may not show any bacteria now. If the 2 brothers got the rash after swimming at the pool, it may be a reaction to the chemicals in the water.
Avatar f tn Have had this very irritable, barking cough for over a week, which requires constant lubrication and a bad taste in my mouth. I'm not really coughing up phlegm. My throat also feels very inflamed. I've lost my appetite since aswell. I take lots of vitamin c and antihistamine and have even tried a prentative inhaler.
666921 tn?1254990618 I personally don't take antihistamine but just some advice I read that - antihistamine suppresses the immune system - never thought about it before - they work like steroids - some very good advice on another forum was - do not take antihistamine if you have lyme I am sure some of you already knew this but just thought I would mention it
643681 tn?1223407715 In addition to the medicines which you doctor has prescribed(mainly nasal decongestants, antibiotics, steroids etc) avoid indigestible, spicy, foods and meats. Eat simply of wholesome food. Obtain needed out-of-door exercise, sunbaths, and swimming. It can also be treated using an antihistamine nasal spray. Antihistamine works by blocking your immune system's response to the allergen. The golden rule for chronic stuffy nose is steam inhalation.
Avatar f tn They had given me a steroid shot and steroid pills to continue taking for about 8-10 days. Along with a antihistamine. They worked and rash was cleared up. The same rash appeared about 2 weeks later again i went to the doctor and they did the same routine (steroid and antihistamine). Cleared up again. Now 2 weeks later the same rash is back but not as severe. This time there is redness in my face as well.
Avatar n tn What kind were you taking?
Avatar f tn Do not mix antihistamines though such as an oral antihistamine and spray. Ocean Spray does not have an antihistamine and will simply dry you out and is safe to use with an antihistamine.

Avatar f tn I have tried to see if I was allergic to something but I cant figure it out. It itches and burns and nothing I put on it helps. The doc put me on antibiotics for 10 days and it helped alittle but came back. My skin will flake after it starts to get better and then it will start all over. I thought maybe rosacea but I am not sure. I wanted to try some things before I went to a dermatolgist. I am using Acnefree for redness and it seems to be alittle better but it does that.
Avatar f tn ve been to see my GP countless times since it began and have been prescribed antibiotics, steroid nasal spray, throat spray, inhalers, antacid tablets and have even had an x-ray, all of which have failed to work or diagnose a problem. I'm constantly drinking water, chewing gum and using mouthwash to ensure that my mouth isn't dry. It's completely taken any enjoyment out of my life as I am constantly coughing or just have a general discomfort in my throat. Any help on what to do next?
Avatar n tn I always have a bad reaction to insect bites or stings with really bad swelling. Normally necessitates application of loads of antihistamine cream, taking maximum dose Piriton tablets for days, then a course of strong antibiotics. If I'm in a situation where I know there is the risk of being bitten, is there any advantage in taking Piriton tablets in advance - along with using insect repellent?
Avatar f tn I have myself experienced a similar situation in the past where the doctor prescribed an antibiotic and a strong antihistamine. My problem was caused by an allergic reaction and an infection from a cat scratch.
Avatar f tn My allergist told me to try Claritin tabs instead of gel caps but I took one after having my allergy shot and I broke out in hives again. Now all the pollen is out and my eyes are really itchy and red and I have a hard time seeing at work. I tried taking Atarax last night to see if that would help more than Benadryl. Big mistake since I woke up broke out in bad hives. I had to wait to get home to take benadryl since I am not 100% certain that Benadryl does not give me hives.
Avatar f tn I personally take a claritin everyday. I have seasonal allergies and pet dander makes my eyes and face really itchy. My Dr OKed it and said its totally safe. Hope this helps.
612551 tn?1450022175 I had prior to the vet visit above been given Wilson one half Benedryl 25 mg Antihistamine morning and evening, in the hope it would clear up the paw problem. A couple weeks of this did not produce any improvement. I then checked and saw recommendations to use 1 - 2 mg per pound. As Wilson is j20+ pounds my does level was low. I have decided to continue giving him Benadryl but now one 25 mg capsule morning and night. Hope it keeps his paws and general itch problems under control.
Avatar f tn Also try boiling some water, remove from heat and add 3-4 cloves of minced fresh garlic and let it steep. Then drink up. Try it for a couple of days. Garlic is a natural antibiotic it'd be wise to take a probiotic too because antibiotics kill off good and bad bacteria and you need to replace the good.
Avatar n tn Obtain needed out-of-door exercise, sunbaths, and swimming. It can also be treated using an antihistamine nasal spray. Antihistamine like benadryl works by blocking your immune system's response to the allergen. Symptoms can also be relieved by using a nasal spray that contains corticosteroids. Corticosteroids work by helping to reduce inflammation and congestion.
Avatar n tn He has had a running nose, hard to breathe and very uncomfortable specially during the evenings. The vet has given him two rounds of antibiotics which don't seem to be really working. I personally have given himm 1ml of antihistamine( human) that seems to give him some respite. The vet did take a swap test of his snort but that was 3weeks ago but has not called me back. I am really worried because he is very uncomfortable.
351404 tn?1299489130 Had an eczema with itching outbreak on forehead area and took a Benadryl antihistamine pill. Fine for 24 hours, then took another and that night had a three hour AFib episode. I remember about 20 years ago, I last took an antihistamine and got flutters. Is there a connection between AFib and antihistamine, ie have others an opinion or experience of this?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking the pills cuz I really got bored and what's funny I've been getting better since then. I've already visited my doctor and I'm taking some antibiotics and I'm doing better now, no sore throat anymore. Thanks a lot for answering my question, you really helped me. Thank you!!!
Avatar m tn The CTA Chest scan shows clear lungs and the heart and pulmonary vasculature is normal. My question to you is: What else can be the problem? Please, I will appreaciate your professional advise or analysis.
Avatar n tn One ENT doctor used Endoscope and diagnosed me as paroxysmal rhynitis and gave me 7days antibiotics, 14 days antihistamine and steroid nose spray. I also flashed with salt water twice a day for more than a months now. The strong smell went away for a few hours but when I sniff with my nose I can still smell it. I went to another ENT doctor and had CT Scan done. It showed everything normal and this doctor told me I never had any sinusitis at all.
