Angiogram brain surgery

Common Questions and Answers about Angiogram brain surgery

angiogram

Avatar n tn I also had an MRI/MRA and found a small aneurysm. When I went and saw a neurosurgeon they had me do an angiogram as well. Its considered the gold standard in finding aneurysms. I would suggest finding out your family history and see if anyone else has had them. If there is a familial connection the medical community can take different more aggressive tactics. I was rather surprised to find out a family member had had an annie.
Avatar m tn I HAVE AN UNRUPTURED 5 MM BRAIN ANEURYSM WHICH APPEARED FOLLOWING A ROUTINE MRA SCAN FOLLOWING OPEN HEAD BRAIN SURGERY TO REMOVE A NON CANCEROUS TUMOUR ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO THE LAST SCAN 15 MONTHS SHOWED NOTHING - MY NEUROSURGEON WANTS ME TO HAVE A DIGITAL SUBTRACTION ANGIOGRAM TO CARRY OUT A MORE DETAILED EVALUATION. HOW DANGEROUS IS THIS TYPE OF SCAN. I KNOW IT HAS IN RISKS IN RELATION TO STROKES ETC., I AM 63 YEARS OF AGE.
359574 tn?1328360424 My 5 mm annie on the internal carotid has the ophthalmic artery coming out the side of it. The doctor who did my angiogram told me it wasn't treatable through endovascular means like coiling because it would cut off blood to the eye. The surgeon also told me a craniotomy and clipping is riskier than leaving it alone and monitoring it. At my one year follow-up, the CT Angiogram showed no changes.
Avatar f tn my Dad is 67 years old and had memory loss ,slurred speech due to two little block in brain and blockage in internal carotid artery . The doppler study and MRI A angiogram showed 100% blockage of left internal carotid artery. The right artery had 30% 40% of block. His colateral blood is normal. he had diabeties and Bp for the past 1 1/2 years. he got blood supply through right arteries..
Avatar m tn Last year I suffered a serious brain bleeding rupture. I was rushed to a hospital and remained in intensice care for 11 days monitoring the condition. No surgery was necessary and was released since the ruptured vessel closed on its own. It was not considered an aneurysm. Am I susceptible for a reoccurance? I'm on a daily dose 120mg. mild Gkingo natural plant extract blood thinner capsules. No other medication was advised.
Avatar n tn I have just been diagnosed with Chiari 1, and need to find a specialist in my area. I have been suffering for 6 years and am relieved to finally know why I am in so much pain. It took 3 MRI's, brain angiogram and 3 spinal taps to get here. I would also like to get more information on what the surgeries and their recovery times are. I am in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Avatar f tn Is it really necessary for me to have an angiogram after finding out I have small aneurism in my head? The aneurism is 3 mm, I am a healthy 37 year old female. Should I get a second opinion? It really seems unnecessary for me to have a cath and camera into my brain for an aneurism they say is small and not to worry about it???
1225678 tn?1267136608 I had been having trouble with my vision and headaches for about 2 years but no one seemed to know what the problem was until a CT scan, then a MRI, and then a Cerebral angiogram. I will be having surgery on the 8th of March. I have done a lot of research on aneurysm and am no longer afraid of it, however I am terrifed of surgery and it's risks. I am a need to know person. The more I understand things the better I feel. I seen the Neurosurgeon yesterday.
Avatar m tn I have a 7 week old son has a brain aneurysm rupture at age 4 weeks. I am interested in the prognosis of other infants or young children that have survived an aneurysm through surgery. Any history or information you could share would be appreciated. He was admitted in hospital due to fever where aneurysm may have potentially ruptured, seized for 3 hours, lot of blood in his brain, went through coiling surgery, had 2 angioplasty to control cerebral vasospasm.
Avatar n tn my sister in law is now in surgery to have a brain stem blood clot removed can you tell me more about this please
Avatar f tn MRI revealed bleed from cavernous angioma in brain stem, left penducle, cerebellum. Angiogram showed bleeding stopped but had surgery to have it removed. There were signs it had bled before. I had never been very coordinated and had also suffered a number of serious knocks on the head including a concussion as a kid. All seemed well post surgery until I went back to work six months later.

Avatar n tn Her right ankle, the side they did the graft, remained swollen (to varying degrees) for about 9 months after the surgery. (She did have brain surgery at the end of Jan. 2008 and also emergency brain surgery June 2008, and the doctors said that impacted her recovery from the heart surgery.) Anyway, her ankle had gone down to normal size for at least a year. Recently, she's developed congestive heart failure again and her ankle is now swollen as well.

Avatar f tn You will have to wait for the results of the angiogram. Blockages can be treated with bypass surgery, but in many cases with minimal invasive angioplasty (stenting) or with medication. Dependent on the outcome of the angiogram and taking into account your grandmother's physical condition and the fact that she has has bypass surgery before, the cardiologist will advise what the best option is.
Avatar f tn I have had neither at this point. I see the neurosurgeon in 2 days and am going to inquire about those tests.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much Selma! My NS sent me to a neurologist to rule out atypical migraines before finalizing on surgery. The neurologist seems to think "Chiari is no big deal. Decompression is no big deal, it's not like they are cutting on your brain". He sent me for an angiogram today to make sure I don't have an aneurysm from the increased pressure.... I would just like to have a specialist to be able to see for a second opinion if need be....
Avatar m tn shortness, tinnitus plus pain on right side of the brain, dizzy and nerve problem. Over 9 years, I have been frustrated to find the answers for my symptoms because New York City is big city that I was new to it. I actually thought it might be my heart problem because shortness of breath I still have then found out that I was born with heart defect. I received open heart surgery last April 2016 called PAPVR. After open heart surgery, I still do struggle with my shortness of breath.

Avatar f tn However, the gold standard in evaluating the blood supply of the brain is through 4 vessel angiogram which is an invasive procedure. It will all depend on what your doctor is considering, and he or she will be contented with the accuracy of the MRA. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn an angiogram is the images taken using a catheter, injecting radio isotopes into the blood vessels to show up on an imaging system. As I've said before, all procedures carry some element of risk but some are obviously much lower than others. Angiograms are about the lowest you can get, but by law you have to be warned you could end up with a stroke or other organ damage if some plaque is knocked out of place.
Avatar n tn recently i was diagnosed through both and mri and a mra to have a avm on the right side of my brain w/o an aneurysm however it says that there is an enlargment of the right anterior cerebral artery that is the vascular supply to the avm, i have an consult with a neurosurgeon soon but was wondering what this all means and what to expect, am i in danger???
525386 tn?1215488307 It has spreaded to his spine. He is recovering from the brain surgery and is doing pretty well. He will start chemo and radiation therapy in a few days. He still needs lots of rehab to gain his strength and balance. His vision is bad, but hopefully will get better in time. If not, corrective surgery is possible but not till later down the road. We will probably be here for another 2 months and after that will be outpatient therapy for chemo every 3 weeks. I am a hospital mom again....
