I have heart problems so wasn't thrilled with the side effects that I was reading and wanted to hear from others that had taken it. Thank you!

I have been taking this drug for a month and it has made my bloating almost go away. I recommend it for that alone.

About three weeks ago I started noticing bloating, constipation, and lower abdominal pain. It got worse and worse as the days went on. I went to the walk-in clinic were they took x-rays to determine if there was an obstruction, which there was not. The only thing the x- ray showed was a moderate amount of feces. They told me it was just constipation and suggested Miralax. I took Miralax for five days with no results and went back were they performed a fleet enema on me...

You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?

Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...

And I have been prescribed Amitiza only for it to make extremely sick. Just wondering what possible drugs this specialist could possibly have that other doctors cant prescribe. I dont want to be a guinea pig and be trying stuff that is not safe. I dont want my condition to become worse because of them where I cant later have surgery etc.

Had breast reconstruction over 10 years ago - TRAM flap with abdominal muscle. Digestion issues worsen every year. Physician prescribed Amitiza last year but now have to meet new-year deductible before I can benefit from manufacturer coupon. Symptoms now include increased, painful bloating, no burps, no flatulence and no bowel movement after about 5 days drinking only water. Usually fruit or juice will help but nothing is helping or happening. Suggestions welcome and encouraged.

The bloating may be due to too much fibre or from too much simple carbohyrdrates like bread. Your body may even be allergic to the gluten in bread and othe products. You can also try drinking the yogurts that contain the good bacteria and get some capsules that contain the Lactobacillus acidophilus (and the rest) to get the good bacteria into your guts.

at the place small colon is connected i had a CT scan which says i have a stricture and scarring. I am having terrible bloating and cannot eat any large meal, also can't do fiber, gluten or carbs. Any suggestions. I take amitiza twice a day and drink miralax every night with prune juice. this has ruined my life. it has just gotten worse over the last 6 months.

It all started when i was 17 everyday I would have a salad for lunch and about 20 minutes later I had severe abdominal pain, bloating, and my stomach was distended. The only way to relive the pain was to lie down and let the gas work itself out. My other problem was that I cannot go to the bathroom regularly unless I've had copious amounts of caffeine or unless I am extremely nervous about something.

Has anyone taken this for IBS? Saw a doctor at Stanford yesterday fir a second opinion. I had been tested by another specialist I had rapid gastric emptying and was put on Prozac and low dose Clonidine. Can't say I noticed much of a difference in lower abdominal pain, bloating, stomach pain and nausea.

This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.

My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?

I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.

This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach. In it's place she put me on 3 Metamucil tablets each morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace at night. We are trying this for 2/3 weeks and then maybe ease back in to the Amitiza.

I've had severe constipation for two weeks now. I have severe abdominal bloating/distention, rapid weight gain (put 25 pounds on in less than 2 weeks), stingy sensation up and down my lower legs (front) almost burning and my fingers tingle/feel swollen, fatigue (wake up tired, tired after eating, and sleep whenever not at work), waking up tired, muscle soreness, joint pain, nausea, and my stomach is warm to the touch and hurts.

She says surgery is not needed unless there was a knot or blockage (pretty much on my death bed) but this definitely is why I am experiencing gas, upset stomach and bloating. ve been struggling with the bloating for a long time now and it got so bad that I went to a GI doctor and had a bunch of tests done. With bloating the #1 thing you wanna make sure and rule out is an intestinal obstruction. Have your doctor schedule you a small bowel x-ray with barium to rule or confirm this. It's a really nasty liquid you have to drink and they take x-rays of your abdomen every 30 minutes or so to see where it is in your intestinal tract until you eventually pass it on.
