Amitiza for ibs

Common Questions and Answers about Amitiza for ibs

amitiza

Avatar f tn My dr started me on 8mg of amitiza twice a day and I felt better. After my colonscopy which came out good except for a lazy colon he increased my dosage to 24 mg twice a day. I was soooooo sick. I had nausea and terrible diarrhea so bad that I had to go home from work. My gastro told me to switch to 24 mg every other day and only once a day but I'm afraid to try it again. I just started back on the 8mg samples he gave me twice a day. Let's see if that works.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar f tn any way of getting rid of IBS forever? I have had it for years with constipation. I am looking for a fool proof natural herb medication & diet to correct this.
Avatar f tn This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.
Avatar f tn Was put on Amitiza and then Linzess which work well for some but not me but I can be sensitive to meds. It was my GI doctor at Stanford that suggested I try the Iberogast. I was skeptical but gave it a try. You can mix it in something to mask the taste. I actually but it in my morning coffee and only use it once a day. Took some time but I have a BM almost daily. It has to be helping as there are really no other changes to my meds.
Avatar n tn I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Hi I've had ibs for 5 years now, the past two years has been great but my ibs anxiety has been through the roof. I can't sit in class without worrying, so I usually leave. And I can't stop worrying about what's going to happen next. I worry a lot. And I just need some help with working with my anxiety to calm it down a lot. It's more of a bother than anything else. I mean not being able to go eat with friends or simply watching a movie at the theater. Life is rough.
Avatar m tn thanks for both of your comments , really appreiciate it .
Avatar f tn It seems evident we are all lucky if we have 7 minutes in the office with the physician! Due to all the other tests coming back negative, he has decided to go with IBS. He put me on Amitiza, 24 mg twice daily for eight days, then 8 mg twice daily. I was not pleased to discover the limited literature available on this medication. So far, side effects seem minimal. I think it will take some time to see if it is really working as I was on vacation and out of my daily routine starting the Amitiza.
Avatar f tn You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
974371 tn?1424653129 Has anyone taken this for IBS? Saw a doctor at Stanford yesterday fir a second opinion. I had been tested by another specialist I had rapid gastric emptying and was put on Prozac and low dose Clonidine. Can't say I noticed much of a difference in lower abdominal pain, bloating, stomach pain and nausea.
1704915 tn?1357601254 And I have been prescribed Amitiza only for it to make extremely sick. Just wondering what possible drugs this specialist could possibly have that other doctors cant prescribe. I dont want to be a guinea pig and be trying stuff that is not safe. I dont want my condition to become worse because of them where I cant later have surgery etc.
946915 tn?1271941032 Hi....I was recently diagnosised with Gastroparesis and IBS w/const. I underwent a procedure where they injected Botox into the base of my stomach. This seems to have helped some but I'm still suffering with the bloating and const. even though I take a Colace twice a day. Just thought I would see if there are others out there with this and what else I can try. Thanks...
5276842 tn?1365878296 Get off the gluten completely and you may have remission or at least improvement in your fibromyalgia. For the constipation, what works for me best is a drug called Amitiza. It is not cheap, but it is less expensive than it used to be. I just take it every 3 days or so. I also use Miralax, which seems to be the same thing as your macrogol. I previously took amitriptyline as it kept my migraines away. Guess what ...
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried it and had it worked for you. Symptoms??
Avatar m tn No which I'm surprised, sounds like it could be useful but he hasn't mentioned it. I've been on colofac for IBS which worked for a couple of weeks initially but then stopped. Can't even remember the names of half the meds, mostly laxatives and stimulants,. duclolax, mirolax ( i think) milk of magnesia, senakot ( which crippled me) movicol, fybogel, fibre sure ( just adds fibre to diet), 2 pints of the prep stuff because it had gotten so bad, enemas..
Avatar f tn I have tried every single form of laxative, suppository, stool softener, even ibs focused medication like amitiza. I cant take a laxative unless i have been constipated for about 10 days otherwise it wont work. I have maybe one good week every now and then but usually its just a good day or two. My abdominal area constantly hurts and i feel like i have a knot that doesnt go away but the doc says my stomach feels flat.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
293157 tn?1285873439 Then, I ws given Amitiza for really bad bouts. The thing that works the best is a dose of Miralax EVERY DAY. It takes 3 days or so to work, so don't skip a dose just because you have a "good day" or two. I hope that this helps and that you get some releif soon. Sometimes, I bloat so bad that I gain 2 pant sizes in a day.
605458 tn?1539228808 This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach. In it's place she put me on 3 Metamucil tablets each morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace at night. We are trying this for 2/3 weeks and then maybe ease back in to the Amitiza.
Avatar n tn m on two antidepressants which make no difference. I tried a medicine call Amatiza for IBS and it did not work for, me. My diet is ok. I still think that something is wrong and I might have a malabsorption issue. My body cannot digest foods for some reason. I just found out I have high cholesterol and slightly anemic. I'm only 25 and I shouldn't be having all these problems. Does anyone have any idea why my body is not producing a bowel movement. PLEASE HELP.
329994 tn?1301663248 Thank you for answering my post. I appreciate that and I am certainly glad that it is working for you. I will keep that in consideration. As I said, I am very nervous to take this pill. I have heart problems so wasn't thrilled with the side effects that I was reading and wanted to hear from others that had taken it. Thank you!
