amitiza

1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy, I really don't know how common it is but I also have IBS that just keeps getting worse... I only have bowel movements once maybe twice a month... I know it's hard to believe but it's the truth.. Also, I used to never have bloating and pain in between those movements... But, in the last few months my stomach stays distended, I cramp until I double over, and nothing seems to help... My doctor said it's a combination of the MS and the medication...
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar f tn No white wheat bread, and see if avoiding wheat and rye helps. If that helps, you may have gluten sensitivity even if not Celiac disease. Eat lots of vegetables. Raw is good if your system can handle it, but cooked is okay if you can't. Eat lots of fish and poultry unless you seem to react. Some red meat is fine unless you have cardiovascular/cholesterol issues. Lots of whole fruits, not juices. Try to eat kale and other greens every week. Brussel sprouts too.
Avatar f tn This looks like "official" matter. What meds are in question? Colonoscopy showed something? IBS is not a disease at all, and there's no drugs for IBS, as I know (my opinion). Zelnorm was even withdrawn from the (U.S.) market last year, now it might be back again.
Avatar f tn Was put on Amitiza and then Linzess which work well for some but not me but I can be sensitive to meds. It was my GI doctor at Stanford that suggested I try the Iberogast. I was skeptical but gave it a try. You can mix it in something to mask the taste. I actually but it in my morning coffee and only use it once a day. Took some time but I have a BM almost daily. It has to be helping as there are really no other changes to my meds.
293157 tn?1285873439 I also have MS, and I do have IBS. Lately on days that my IBS is really bad, of course there’s quite a bit of cramping in the lower abdomen, but lately cramping in my lower back, pelvis and upper thighs at the same time.I believe it can be from the MS because of all the nerves located in those areas and perhaps damaged from the MS, but I’ve never had it checked out medically.
Avatar n tn I have these bloated, distention, nausea, constipation (sometimes) for about 20 years. Colonoscopy and gastroenteroscopyn always show clear and fine. I was prescribed Amitiza 8 mg 2 years ago. There was a point that I felt ok for 3 months in a row recently. But unfortunately, it came back again. It really bothers my daily life and work. What should I do?
Avatar f tn Treatment is controlling the constipation and getting exercise and being outside. If you have constipation with your IBS, be sure you take magnesium supplements to help. When I work outside doing manual labor for my job, I don't need as much help, but with a desk job I need to take Amitiza and lots of supplements.

Avatar f tn It seems evident we are all lucky if we have 7 minutes in the office with the physician! Due to all the other tests coming back negative, he has decided to go with IBS. He put me on Amitiza, 24 mg twice daily for eight days, then 8 mg twice daily. I was not pleased to discover the limited literature available on this medication. So far, side effects seem minimal. I think it will take some time to see if it is really working as I was on vacation and out of my daily routine starting the Amitiza.
Avatar f tn I am on milk of magnesia, amitiza, and dulcolax and my doctor wants me to try to get off the milk of magnesia. You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
974371 tn?1424653129 I was taking 3 10/325norco a day for my severe ibs and fibromialgia and my doctor took me off cold turkey tomorrow and gave me depakote and clonidine for withdrawal symptoms! Im so scared! The Norco does help. .. I wish someone would give me any advice! I also suffering from ptsd. ..
946915 tn?1271941032 Thanks and yes...I've had all the tests you mentioned above done. The only ones that showed anything was the CT scan showed a small kidney stone and the gastric emptying scan showed moderate to severe gastroparentsis. I need to work on the multiple smaller meals...I typically try to keep semi-healthy snacks at work and just eat dinner. I do try to eat low-fat...maybe I'm eating fiborous things and don't realize it. We tried amitiza and it did nothing...
5276842 tn?1365878296 I am considering cutting out gluten again as this is the easiest to cut out for now as I also weightlift and use protein powders and eggs for protein. I struggle to get enough protein as it is and have a stock of powders i cannot afford to replace with dairy free options. Any advice you can offer me on relieving symptoms would be great. Currently the only medication I take are amytriptilline 20mg for the fibro, lansoprazole for oesophagitis and macrogol for constipation.
974371 tn?1424653129 I was sick in bed all day yesterday with upper and lower abdominal pain, bloating and nausea but not sure if it was from this med. I was also told to increase my Gabapentin up to 900 mg a day. I hate taking any of this stuff. Thus is from my Stanford doctor and I still don't think they are sure what I have. My GI doctor here suggested I see the surgeon again about my gallbladder as a HIDA scan showed a 19% ejection fraction.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried it and had it worked for you. Symptoms??
Avatar m tn Usually people with constipation need a high fiber diet, but occationally this will actually make things worse. Look up to see which fruits and vegetables are low-fiber and only eat those, along with other low-fiber foods. The only other laxative I would recommend trying is called magnesium citrate which I've found is one of the strongest laxatives out there. How much water are you drinking every day? If you are not drinking enough water, the laxatives won't do anything.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar f tn All they have done for me is a CBC and Metabolic blood test and they keep chalking it up to IBS. I asked why they wouldnt do more testing since I have to call out of work and cant do daily things like chores very often because it can be very unbearable, and they say i am too young to have any serious problems. I have felt at a loss for words because i am sitting in the docs office on the verge of tears telling them that FODMAP diets dont work for me, nothing does but do not feel heard.
Avatar n tn I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
605458 tn?1539228808 This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach. In it's place she put me on 3 Metamucil tablets each morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace at night. We are trying this for 2/3 weeks and then maybe ease back in to the Amitiza.
Avatar n tn I am a 36 y.o. female. On Jan 21st I was 136 pounds. 6 days later I was at ER -177 pounds w/ severe abdominal bloating and constipation.I was constipated given Miralax. One week later I am in ER again @ 180 pounds, sft tissue pitted edema in right leg & calf, &l no bowel movement & ab swelling. I've been tested for Celiac and was neg..Had numerous GI tests all negative.I ws diagnosed w/ IBS-C and given Amitiza. I was in the hospital again on Friday.
Avatar n tn The GI doc put me on Amitiza but did not help so today (a week after my colonoscopy) she took me off Amitiza and started me on 3 Metamucil tablets every morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace each night as well. I'm waiting to see what happens next...good luck to you.
Avatar f tn m also a 25 year old female and have had problems for about 6 years. I have IBS-C and my main symptom is extreme bloating. It is always present and definitely worse after eating. I have just started taking Amitiza, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything except making me more bloated. Is the Colace helping you? I had my gallbladder removed 5 years ago and have been taking Nexium for acid reflux since that time.
