946915 tn?1271941032 Yes it's true that high fiber and whole grains are healthier, but they are really hard for gastroparesis patients to digest. That's surprising that your doctor didn't try you on any of those meds before doing the botox treatment.
Avatar f tn i've had ideopathic gastroparesis for a year now and have been unable to find any help on what i should or should not eat to prevent or minimize symptoms. one suggestion was a low-fiber diet but the dietician i was referred to was completely unable to tell me exactly what that was. another suggestion was o soft diet. does that mean just eat anything and grind it up like babyfood or is it foods that become soft or are soft naturally such as jello & ice cream?
Avatar f tn I have several fun stomach issues, including GERD, a hiatal hernia, and now gastroparesis. I seem to always have heartburn, despite being on medication for almost 9 years. My esophagus is not "abnormal enough" to repair my hiatal hernia. There does not seem to be much available for my gastroparesis, since Reglan made me sick, Amitiza is not covered by my insurance, and I have no idea if Novardis will accept me to go on Zelnorm.
Avatar n tn When will more medications be available for those of us with Gastroparesis? There is only one available in the U.S. that is Reglan which has all sorts of side effects. I cannot take this medication because of those side effects so purchase Domperidone through a Canadian drug company. Since I do this, insurance does not cover it. Also, I am very frustrated with the medical profession's lack of awareness regarding this disease.
512694 tn?1216161406 It worse though. So now I have 2 pacemakers one for my tummy and one for my heart. Cytotec is not for woman that are going to because pregnant because it can make you lose a baby. But with all the drugs and injections I do ok. The reason why I am always looking for more info is because I'm 27 and getting botox every 3 months for the rest of my life is alot. Thanks for sharing your info.
Avatar m tn Reglan is it- I refused it- Zelnorm worked for my gas- bloat but they took it off the market- I didn't have gastroparesis ( I was sure I did) but manometry showed goofy motility- and I also have gas /bloat after my fundo- unless you want to work with the bowel emptying- they tried me on Amitiza/ gave me diarrhea though. I like chewable acidopholus for the gut (GNC), as well as fiber choice OTC. You burping or any other symptoms.
Avatar n tn A recent bout of gastroparesis return required a repeat of hospitalizations, dehydration, renal failure etc. I restarted my domperidone after reglan nor erythromycin worked. I also took amitiza aftyer zelnorm went off market. Supposedly I went into CHF due to tyhe Domperidone & a cardiac issue, ICU , adrenal glands shut down, kidneys didn't work. This was miserable I ended up on massive steroids weight gain blah, blah , blah.
Avatar f tn You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
Avatar f tn My gastroenterologist came up with nothing Murilax and Amitiza. Not very effective. After doing research on my own, I discovered digestive enzymes. I've purchased some from Enzymedica that have helped tremendously, but not totally--because I don't know enough about my needs. I just discovered through research that there is a LIPASE TEST This test is done to check the pancreas for disease, most often acute pancreatitis.
Avatar n tn I am supposed to be on liquid diet (I am not) and have gastroparesis and have gained 40 pounds in past two years. I have hypothyroidism for 33 years and empty sella syndrome. Because my TSH is always messed up docs keeping reducing levothyroxine dramatically, 2 years ago I was in a coma due to hypothyroidism and UTI which went to brain. I started using treadmill to help lose weight and broke tibia due to osteoporosis.
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar f tn Has anyone tried it and had it worked for you. Symptoms??
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar m tn What is the standard treatment for Gastroparesis? Also any none standard treatments? Other than Surgery what else can be done for Colon narrowing (Due to Ulcerative Colitis)?
605458 tn?1539228808 This AM the nausea was so bad I called the GI group and was told to stop taking the Amitiza for a few weeks and that the most common side effect of the drug is extreme nausea and it should ALWAYS be taken on a full stomach. In it's place she put me on 3 Metamucil tablets each morning and 1 Colace, then 1 Colace at night. We are trying this for 2/3 weeks and then maybe ease back in to the Amitiza.
Avatar f tn s not a good idea to take a hot bath, but a luke warm one might help for your legs. Potassium also helps for leg cramps. You may want to try Hyland's Restful Legs. I always have constipation. Bloated feeling, too. I guess, they go along with eachother. My doctors say I have GERD and IBS. These are common symptoms. I take alot of colace. Was even prescribed amitiza. Though, nothing really helps, but it's worth a try.
329994 tn?1301663248 Thank you for answering my post. I appreciate that and I am certainly glad that it is working for you. I will keep that in consideration. As I said, I am very nervous to take this pill. I have heart problems so wasn't thrilled with the side effects that I was reading and wanted to hear from others that had taken it. Thank you!
771025 tn?1286576152 I have what you are describing. It's called gastroparesis. The basic meaning is that your stomach is not processing food though your body. It causes extream bloating after a few bites of food. Untreated you will become unable to eat or have a bowel movement. It's a form of IBS. I was put on a liquid sweet caster oil, no good. An old friend said she had had it and to ask for Amitiza. It worked! no more bloating, lost 5lbs and regular trips to the bathroom.
1704915 tn?1357601254 And I have been prescribed Amitiza only for it to make extremely sick. Just wondering what possible drugs this specialist could possibly have that other doctors cant prescribe. I dont want to be a guinea pig and be trying stuff that is not safe. I dont want my condition to become worse because of them where I cant later have surgery etc.
1434905 tn?1283645103 Many people with POTS have gastroparesis. My son was prescribed erythrocin 3x a day for his gastroparesis and that seems to help. Your stomach might be emptying to slowly causing you to be full. And then the food that sits in your stomach starts to ferment, causing you to fell sick.
280736 tn?1294198374 What is the best treatment for Gastroparesis? My 22 yr old daughter is so ill and has lost so much weight and is not getting any nutrition. She has been passing out and dizzy, I fear low blood sugar. The reglan made her so jittery and nervous, made it hard for her to take clients, she is a hair stylist. She is not diabetic. Is Zofran or domperidone better? Please any suggestions or help at all would be so appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have not tried anything herbal for the gastroparesis but they do have a good acidofilis that I really like, it is called pearls, they are very small and easy to take, besided gastroparesis (non diabetic) that comes and goes I have esophageal spasms, so small pills are best for me, but I also did feel better taking it. Erythromicin did not work well for me, It gives me ulcers, so I am left with reglan.
