Common Questions and Answers about Ambien getting off

ambien

1929318 tn?1323237123 I called my doctor and asked him whats the best way for me to go about getting off ambien? He told me to just stop taking it. I won't sleep I explained. I tried cough and cold medicines, etc in the past and nothing worked. Tonight is the night, I doubt i'll sleep at all for days but this is something I have to do. I have to be here for my kids. To many things can and do happen when i'm unconscious from midnight to 6am everynight.
Avatar m tn I am very serious about getting off of ambien. I take 18mg every night (I take one tab, quarter another and take three quarters). Dr. said I could take 20mg, but not quite up to that dosage. I've been taking it for ten weeks. I need to get off of this stuff. Has anyone here done this? I can taper off my usage gradually, and I understand it will take a while. I'm looking for a tapering schedule, and advice in general. Basically what I'm getting myself into.
Avatar f tn I have taken ambien off and on for 10 years or so and never have noticed a tolerence to it or any addiction to it...I just fall asleep after 15 minutes or so and I take a very small dose...like 2.5 mg or 1/2 of a 5 mg tablet...How much are you taking each day...I went to a lecture on ambien just not too long ago and a friend of mine said she abused it but had no trouble quitting ...no WDs...
Avatar f tn I have taken ambien off and on as needed and have had no problems but you shouldnt have to take ambien if you have the klonopin because that in itself often causes drowsiness so it shoulld help you sleep. So to sum up. Take KLONOPIN as prescribed and your wellbutrin as prescribed. Do not take xanax or ambien that is overmedicating and overkill.
Avatar f tn I want to know what side effects I can expect if I start taking myself off this medication. I have too busy of a life to stay in bed and try to sleep it off. Can someone give me any advise. I need to be able to still function. I know I will still have pain bt if I can get it to where I can take it 2 times a day I will be happy. I am desparate. I want my life back, tired of worring that I will run out of my med before I see my doctor each month.
Avatar m tn Your Doctor knows! Hey, you gotta sleep somehow while you taper off of Ambien. Z-drugs are serious to get off of and your doctor seems to know this (some don't, you're lucky). Follow directions, have faith, you'll do this Zootal. The Ambien taper goes on and on for me. It's hell in a pill to get off of. I'm on the final week of 1.25MG Ambien every night, down from 10MG a night. During my taper, which began in March, I've used strictly OTC sleep aids.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the info. I don't think I'll get over the anger or mood swings until I get off of ambien. I'm 29 days off of hydrocodone. I think ambien has the same side effects as hydrocodone. I just want to be drug free!!!
Avatar f tn This site had been a wonderful help in giving me the determination to get off of the pills. Though I was bone-on-bone on my knee for over five years I didn't use any Vicodin until six months before the surgery. I am young for total knee replacement (45) but went ahead because I was worried about taking more and more of the pills. Surgery was in December and went great. The not so great part is that I had no idea getting off this stuff was going to feel impossible!!
774059 tn?1235681948 I actually got Ambien Prescribed yesterday, and was still up darn near all night. Sure not making work easy that tired. Legs are getting better, but sleep for god sakes would be nice. Maybe I need to up the dose of the Ambien. I am taking 5mg. I think that's low. Bottle says take of or two. Idiot me doesn't read it till this morning because I could not believe It was Ambien...Idiot. Just like me to say - I just need more. GEZ. Still pounding down Tangerines, Vitamin water..
Avatar m tn It's a bit of a long story. He put me on the Ambien because of anxiety related sleep problems, and told me I'd be on it for several weeks or so and may have to spend time getting off of it. He gave me a four month supply, but I'm hoping to use maybe half of that much. It was a temporary thing from the very beginning.
Avatar f tn Hi All, I posted back in Sept about getting off F-cet. I have been on and off of it for so long, but the last 3 years have been steadily taking them. For the last 6 weeks i have gone from 6 tablets a day to 4 a day. It may not sound like a lot, but this is a tough pill to quit b/c of the fact that you can't go CT. I was also on pain pills for a while. thankfully I dont even think about them...ever. In fact I had surgery on my arm last year and had to take them.
Avatar f tn I am just starting day 4 off of norco 5/325. I took usually 4-5 a day. Originally for back pain and then for help dealing with my marriage woes. It's been about 5 months. There was a few weeks months ago where I took Percocet, because I literally could not walk. Of course my back is fine, but my emotional pain continued. Anyway, I was advised by GP that I was over using them and he would not prescribe anymore, which is true, I was overusing.
Avatar n tn I was there and going through other things in my life. All the **** Surri is telling you might be fine if you were off and had been off ambien trying to get into a normal sleep pattern again. I have been off of it for a long time and I'm trying to find something natural that might help when I'm going through these patterns of no sleep. I will NOT take a prescription sleep med ever again.
Avatar n tn I am not getting anymore help from my doctor.... I want to get off the ambium /lunesta and occ. ativan. I need to know the best way to stop. My kids need me and I am incoherant and unble to work.... last night I didn't sleep after taking 3 ambium, valeran root and rx sleeptime,, finally, at about 6am I feel asleep after taking a lunesta (i know i shouldn't be mixing all this stuff) for about an hour. I should say that my doctor had me fill an order of 100 mg nuerontin last night.
Avatar f tn The Z sleep meds, (Ambien & Sonata) can be hard to taper off due to their relatively short half life. Talk to your doctor about using a Dr Ashton style taper where you switch to valium & taper off that which should help minimize the side effects you experience. Your GABA receptors have become tolerant to these drugs & it won't get any better if you continue with them but you should be able to taper very slowly using valium without too much discomfort.
491910 tn?1209366193 You might want to see if the Dr will switch you to say lunesta and see if you can use that while getting off ambien or when you tapered low enough to jump and switch. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My personal experience is with Ambien. It took me 4 months to taper off of 10MG. Ambien uses the same receptors that Zanax uses. If you have a doctor prescribing Xanax for you he/she will give you the information necessary to accomplish a safe taper. Congratulations on your decision to get clean! I wish you luck!
Avatar f tn Does anyone know a capable doctor in Florida who can help someone taper off of Ambien and Xanax - Tampa area?
Avatar n tn t have any problems. He could have been getting meds from other sources-other doctors, friends, relatives, buying them off the street. An addict will go to any length to get their fix so don't think he wouldn't. What you can do, is continue what you are doing. Find Alanon in your area and attend meetings. Go buy a small closet safe and lock up your meds. He'll be p1ssed, but let him know you care about him and think he has a serious problem.
Avatar n tn i have been to two rehabs and most latley i have gotton off of xanax soma vicodid ambien flexarill and fetynol.all these were prescribed by a doctor but the fetynol.i missed work and was in hell for weeks but i did stay off now for two months.this behavior is a cycle but it can be broken with help from proffesionals.so don't give up and get help!
Avatar m tn weaning off of it,any withdrawal cant be as bad as getting off the oxys.I am in pain anyway with my back but that magnetized the pain 20x worse.
Avatar m tn I took Ambien a few years back and I really had a hard time getting off it. I was only taking 5mg but just like you eventually I built a tolerance to it. You should consult your physician first but I am pretty sure Ambien is for short-term insomnia and should not be taken for long periods. I remember having headaches and feeling groggy in the morning because of it. The way I was able to get off of it is to reduce the dose gradually. I started by taking a 2.
