Ambien vs trazodone

Common Questions and Answers about Ambien vs trazodone

ambien

Avatar f tn My wife took 100 mg Trazadone every night before bed as a sleeping aid, an off label use. I tried it myself and it didn't work as a sleep aid. I was also looking form help with stress caused depression, it didn't seem to help me in that area either. I switched to Sertraline (Zoloft) not sure if that will help with depression or not. I find the generic Ambien doesn't help me sleep either.
Avatar m tn When I took 50mg, the 10mg ambien did not seem to do anything at all, and I was awake for two hours after taking it. On 25mg trazodone, 10mg ambien takes 45 minutes to kick in, the 5mg ambien at 4am does not seem to do anything. It is as if the trazodone makes the ambien ineffective. Still trying to get the formula down...needs some fine tuning.
Avatar m tn Personally I have been able to work my way through a list of meds to find one that works for me; Trazodone, Rozerem, Lunesta, Ambien, and finally Ambien CR which I consider a miracle drug. Hope this helps and hope you decide to see your doc. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn It knocks me out. Maybe you were just having a bad night. I think ambien is stronger than trazodone. I dont really know what to tell you if the ambien and valium wasnt working. thats some pretty strong stuff...... maybe talk to your doctor.... I hope you get some help, and sleep....
Avatar n tn My doctor called and suggested trazodone? Now, I was fine using the ambien and actually just sleep and wakeup great in the am and only used it on nights before I worked so I could get to and stay asleep because I have mind racing thoughts and don't actually get to a restful sleep state if I do get to sleep. I don't and have never had any addiction problems whatsoever. So, now I'm affraid to take this stuff. I hear mixed reviews.
Avatar n tn Hi my doctor gave me a prescription for both Ambien 10mg and Trazodone 50mg. She said I can take both if I want to, to help me sleep at night. Im not sure if I want to take any of it because Im the one person who most like have some type of side affects to medication. My question is, has anyone taken these before and had any major issues with them? Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn Hi, Have you tried Trazodone? My fiance is a big guy and it takes a lot to get him to sleep. He takes Trazodone and it works--sometimes too well.
Avatar m tn I've been having trouble sleeping the last few months and at my recent physical, my doctor prescribed Trazadone. I took it a couple nights and couldn't get out of bed and then felt groggy and unmotivated the rest of the day. Doing some research I found out, after the fact, that this was initially an anti-depressant. Quite frankly, I don't like the idea of taking something that was formulated for a psychological condition which I don't have. Long story short, I trashed the pills.
Avatar n tn was prescribed ativan (.5mg) for anxiety induced insomnia. It is not really doing the trick. my doctor then phoned in an rx for trazodone (50mg). it hasn't done much either. does anyone know what the implications would be of combining these two? OR either of these with something like benadryl or tylenol pm? Please advise; I must get some sleep!
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien three months ago and I have started doing ome things out of the norm.
Avatar m tn Diagosed with obstructive sleep apnea and ADD. Been taking trazodone 50mg nightly for about the last year and a half, and it has pretty much became ineffective recently. Where I was averaging 7-9 hours sleep, I'm down to 4-6 and waking up numerous times during this time. I am also taking Adderall 20mg, once when I wake up, and 10mg about 4 hours later, and another 10 mg later, if needed, but seldom take the last one.
783281 tn?1259691431 I too have both trazodone and ambien cr- When I was going through the WDs i would switch off every other night- the ambien is def the best (would def keep me asleep for 7 hours) but out of fear of addiction to it I would take the trazodones every other night- they wouldn;t work as well- but they wouldn't make me feel any worse then I already did. My advice- use the ambien on a night you know you are going to need sleep....
Avatar n tn I have been on a slew of psychiatric meds since last March including Ambien, Ambien CR, Effexor, Lexapro, Trazodone and now Zoloft and Clonazepam. Most SSRIs cause me to have insomnia which is why my psych prescribed Trazodone. However, I had a very bad experience two weeks ago where I even had to call 911 because I felt like I was having a heart attack. I know what a panic attack is and this was not anything like I had experienced before.
Avatar f tn Does anyone here take trazodone? If so, does it work for you, did it take a couple of weeks for it to help you? Any good or bad side effects? Currently taking 100mg for insomnia, but does not seem to be helping, only on it for 10 days. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Any comments on taking trazodone when hep c positive? my bf was diagnosed w/ hep c 6 years ago, has had 2 biopsies w/ the 2nd one last month showing small changes to his liver, but no recommendation for treatment yet. anyway, he has a hard time sleeping, ambien doesnt always help, and he also has some depression, so we thought this might be a good medication for him. thanks in advance.
Avatar m tn Ambien sounds strong also and I read it makes you do some incredible and possibly dangerous things in your sleep. I do have a couple sample pills of both ambien and trazodone. Is there any harm in trying one for two days, wait a day and try the other the next two nights just to see what works best?. Would one .25 mg. of xanax taken every other day, or even every night at say 2 a.m. be habit forming should I go that route?
Avatar f tn ) And in the only sizable study to compare trazodone with Ambien as a sleep aid, the two drugs performed equally well.
582281 tn?1267822196 Doc gave me a px for Trazodone ...25-50 mg as needed for sleep...did some digging on some of the side effects... seem to echo that of the present state of affairs im enjoying ;) well there was a time the possible 4 hour erection would have been a deal cincher....but thats another story.. lol .doc is out of town till Monday..so am wondering if i do try to use this as a sleep aid.. can i just use nightly ..
Avatar f tn Both Ambien and Trazodone have Sedative Propertive. Perhaps you were taking too much Ambien? Why not just stick with one DR. at one health system if you need both Ambien and Trazodone instead of bouncing back and forth across town? I have RX. for Ambien too..but I digress.
649598 tn?1239117215 Also, from reading your posts, it sounds like you and your doctor may only be trying the highly sedating Ambien type meds. Have you tried Trazodone? It is actually a low strength antidepressant that is mostly used as a sleep aid now days. It has a highly sedating effect and works well for insomnia caused by anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Ambien for a yr and a half. It isn't working for me anymore, so my neurologist prescribed Trazodone. I have had a lot more stress lately and this is supposed to help with anxiety and depression. I really hate taking anything new. I'm nervous. I have read the side effects. They always freak me out. Is anyone or has anyone taken this before? If so, did it help with sleeplessness? Thanks everyone!!
Avatar m tn Not a lot of docs know about it but Trazodone works well for many people. During my rough sleep periods I used Trazodone, Melatonin & Benadryl. Got a decent nights sleep every time with that combo. If you want more info on Trazodone let me know.
620048 tn?1358018235 I understand but I have had trouble sleeping for years and I used to just suffer...I was so glad to finally sleep. But then while in the hospital they took me off of the ambien and I didn't sleep for days, they finally let me have the trazodone which helped at the time, I was so happy to just get some sleep meg.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed trazodone 100mg (I think it said mg) for my insomnia that I have suffered with for the last 15 years due to a thyroid problem I had years ago. I took it for the first time last night, but I did not fall asleep or even come close to falling asleep. I took it at 8:30pm and went to bed at 9pm, but ended up getting out of bed at 10pm because I could not sleep. The only difference I feel is a huge headache this morning.
Avatar n tn is it safe to take trazodone if i cant sleep and I am on a regular geodon 80mg and depakote 1000mg (devide by am/pm) also with cogentin?
Avatar f tn Have you tried Ambien or Sonata? I take Ambien (have been on it for about 4 years) - some nights it works well and others it's like I've taken a tic tac - but there are nights when nothing short of getting hit over the head with a hammer is going to help me sleep! I used to be on the CR version of the Ambien, until my insurance decided it wasn't going to cover that formula any longer, so now I'm back to the 10mg dose.
Avatar f tn another option is to get your doctor to prescribe something specifically for insomnia such as ambien, sonata or trazodone. discuss over the counter options with him such as benadryl and others available. lastly, its great to hear YOU know what works best for YOU. don't discount that.
