Common Questions and Answers about Ambien and getting pregnant

ambien

Avatar f tn It has gotten really bad since being pregnant to where its effecting my work and daily obligations. My doctor gave me a sample of ambiem from one of there reps about a week ago it only has 2 pills but I have been very hesitant to try it. I guess my question is have any other momny takin this while being pregnant I'm very unsure of weather or not to try it and guess it would give me some peace of mind if I have heard of someone else trying this during pregnancy.
1102799 tn?1269237714 I was already taking 10 mg of Ambien before getting pregnant and I stayed on it after getting pregnant. I would take 1/2 at bedtime and 1/2 whenever I would wake up in the middle of the night, But I had a really hard time falling back asleep. Fairly soon my Ob-gyn switched me to Ambien CR 12 mg and this worked quite well (1/2 at night and 1/2 in the middle of the night) - I definitively prefer Ambien CR to regular Ambien.
10515800 tn?1419227034 Has anyone taken this while pregnant? I just left l&d and my doctor gave me two.... it's for sleep. But I feel like I'm high....and last time I took this I hallucinated. I didn't know it was the same stuff before I took it. And I only took one last time I took this 2 years ago.
10314571 tn?1428116218 Anybody been prescribed this while pregnant. I'm dealing with insomnia and my doctor gave me some ambien but i didn't know if it was normal to give with pregnancy. ..
1929318 tn?1323237123 I have been on Ambien for almost 14 years and I have recently starting getting circles (red) on my lower legs and itching uncontrollably at night. Recently I found out my blood pressure is high so they gave me a med for that also. For the past 14 years I take 12.5 Ambien, Benadryl, cholesterol, blood pressure med and restless leg med before I go to bed. So the itching just recently started about a month ago and the red circles about 2 months now..
Avatar n tn Why are you wanting to fix what is not broken? If the Ambien is working for you and you are not abusing it I don't understand the need to stop it.
Avatar m tn Thank you everyone for your kind words. I subscribe to sleep.about.com (and a few others about.com newsletters) and have been in fact learning those very things about improving my sleep habits. We recently bought a 3" memory foam mattress liner, and I love it! I have two sound machines next to my bed, and I run both of them - one set to summer night (crickets mostly) and the other to rain. Very soothing.
Avatar f tn Has anyone taken ambien while pregnant? I told my doctor I couldnt sleep cause of the pain I'm in from her weighing too much. I cry every night cause I literally can't move to toss and turn or get up to pee cause of the pain. So instead of any kind of pain meds he gives me ambien. Anyone else taken this drug??
Avatar m tn It has come to a point where I need to medicate myself with several different medicines in order to fall asleep. I usually take Ambien 10 mg and I take two od those and sometimes Xanax 1 mg. I have noticed that Ambien doesnt really help much anymore. I just feel weird when I take it. Sometimes when I dont take anything to sleep and I manage to fall asleep, I have very vivid dreams and nightmares. Even after taking medicine, I dont usually fall asleep until 4 am and I am up at 8 or 9.
1690584 tn?1340297472 Is it possible to go from overtaking it (2 10mg tabs at bed) to just 1 and be able to stay on it? I am pregnant and can not go without my sleep as I am already in danger of preterm labor but I need sleep and it is the only thing that works....
Avatar f tn I have never taken more than prescribed but I cannot fall asleep without one pill. I am now pregnant, and i am cutting the pill in half. It is still working for me and I can get a few hours of sleep but IM still concerned that I am addicted to this.
Avatar f tn I've looked up a lot about ambien during pregnancy and I haven't found anything saying you shouldn't take it or that it'll harm the baby. Has anyone spoken to their doctor about ambien? I've had ambien prescription for years and it's really hard for me to sleep. No I'm not addicted, I used to take it only once or twice a week. It wasn't an every day thing. But it gets sooooo hard for me to sleep some nights so I'm wondering if it's safe.
750172 tn?1256147076 Hi, I was just googling Ambien and Lexapro and read your question. I take Ambien here and there, since I have trouble staying asleep, and have recently become severely depressed and got some Lexapro from a friend, (I know not the best thing to do, but... such is life), but wanted to know if you had any issues taking the two.
603543 tn?1255294450 Did you ask your pharmacist if abilify and ambien and any other meds you might be taking, including OTC meds, might be interacting to cause you to feel like this? Sometimes pharmacists know more about adverse drug interactions than dr's. Just a thought.
Avatar m tn You may be to a point where you are not only dependent on the percocet, but on the ambien too. You may want to consider getting off of both medications and see how things are. Talk with your doctor about a taper plan for both - if this is what you want. If you are only taking 3 percocet per day, it should be fairy easy for you to taper off. I would suggest starting with the percocet, then move to the ambien.
Avatar f tn Like you, I didn't think I could do the hydrocodone and ambien. I'm trying to tapper off the ambien also. I was on 10mg. how much did you reduce it and for how long? Thank you for your post.
Avatar n tn Ambien will help you get some sleep so yes I would say it is good. I worked for a Dr. before and the highest dose I saw given was a total of 12mg. So if the tab was 6mg then the patient could take 2. Taking 2 10mg of ambien seems a little high to me.Maybe someone else could answer better than me. I am one of those people that ambien doesn't work. I have tried Ambien cr, Lunesta (sp?) and regular Ambien and still couldn't get any sleep.
Avatar f tn I am in the same boat but I have taken it a bit further. I am 5 months pregnant and still can not get off the Ambien. I ended up putting myself in rehab after about 1 yr and a half on it because I would take 2 to go to sleep and then wake up to an empty bottle and my hair colored and all kinds of stuff. I got off the Ambien but ended up on xanax and used that the same way. For me I feel I am not addicted to Ambien but I am addicted to sleep.
Avatar f tn I would take that any day (night) instead of Ambien. Ambien shares some, but not all, of the characteristics and receptors affected, that Benzos do. Just my experience, Elavil is pretty helpful to me getting to sleep. I go off it sometimes just to see the result. Sleep is still ok, but can be iffy. I still want to be free from all pills, but recognize I have to pick my battles.
1202033 tn?1273771354 Well, thank you to all of you for your repies to me. And yes Gnarly, my little guy is getting much better, thank you for asking and thank you for your prayers, that means so much to me.
Avatar m tn I'm no doctor, so I definitely can't give you any medical information on Ambien, but I can relay my personal experience with it. I've been on Ambien (currently 10mg) for SEVERAL years now (5 or more). I have many chronic pain conditions, including fibroymalgia. One of the major symptoms of fibro is insomnia - which I definitely suffer from!
Avatar f tn I have taken ambien off and on for 10 years or so and never have noticed a tolerence to it or any addiction to it...I just fall asleep after 15 minutes or so and I take a very small dose...like 2.5 mg or 1/2 of a 5 mg tablet...How much are you taking each day...I went to a lecture on ambien just not too long ago and a friend of mine said she abused it but had no trouble quitting ...no WDs...
Avatar n tn Hi I personally take 10mg of ambien, not on a daily basis maybe once or twice a week sometimes more if needed. I am 26 weeks pregnant and my ob assured me that ambien was fine to take during pregnancy as long as it was not abused such as taking more than one a day ect....... To each their own though hope this helps!
1568041 tn?1311615212 Does she think it's an issue? Personally,I think Ambien is a dangerous drug to be taking all the time. But,if she can't sleep and hasn't increased her dose for a year, then this is her lifestyle. I don't agree with it either but I know insomnia can be just horrible. There are other things she can take. If she wants to try it, suggest Melatonin and Valerian root. It's safe and it works for a lot of people. However, anyone on SSRI's should avoid Melatonin.
Avatar f tn needless to say i definitely fealt the need to take tylenol pm or unisom(usually doxxylamine succinate or diphenyldramine, both sedating anti-histamines) everynight to help me sleep, but i never fealt truly addicted to it and it wasnt like there was a shortage of it, unfortunately there never seemed to be a shortage with ambien, xanax, and so on either....
Avatar f tn Hello mom and welcome. Heroin and ambien are both central nervous system depressants. Taken together it is very dangerous as they both depress the respiratory and central nervous system. How old is your son? Does he live with you? How long has he been Abusing drugs for?
870200 tn?1240459551 Thanks for the advice you have given to sissy...last night I could have used some. I am not getting much needed sleep. I wouldn't take Ambien either. Perhaps I need to pick some up...my daughter told me she has taken Tylenol PM and that works great too. Sometimes you have to watch it to make sure it does not affect your liver...and me without a gallbladder...well we know I need my liver in prime shape. Think I am going to pick some up today!
Avatar f tn At least 6-7 years at a pop and can stop it with very mild consequences. Some lack of sleep and maybe some headaches and neck/back pain but really nothing. Try OTC Advil pm or something maybe.
Avatar m tn I have heard that ambien can have an effect on memory. I have been taking ambien since 1999 and just had surgery and I have my days and nights all turn around, so my Dr told me to take melatonon and my ambien but you should never mix two unless under a Dr care. So please becareful.
