ambien elderly

My Mom is 92 years old. Has been living on her own in Elderly housing for 20 years. Her dementia consisted of repeating and repeating, forgetting who visited, etc. but went throughout her normal activities w/some services very well and very happiy. Always knew us but was starting to forget other people but after prompting she would be ok. 3 weeks ago she developed a very severe resistant UTI and then got c-dift (not sure how to spell that). Anyway ended up dilusional, confused, etc.

I have chronic insomnia. I have been prescribed 100 mg of Seroquel, 12.5 mg of Ambien and 2mg of Xanex.

I was on 1.5 mgs of lorazepam, went down to 1 mg a day and was sleeping fine at first, now I'm having more anxiety and having trouble sleeping. I'ts been about a month. I am tempted to go back up to 1.5 again but i'm trying to remain strong. I'm even having to use some ambien to sleep and i'ts starting not to help. How long will this go on? and will my sleep pattern come back? Is it possible the withdrawls are actually getting worse?

Thanks. I HATE drug side effects stories. My elderly mom's hgb dropped to 8.5 on Arava (for rheumatoid arthritis), I had a personality change on Ambien (so bubbly I couldn't even stand myself). We have to really be on the watch every time we add a new medication. I worry the most about people who require multiple meds. Think I will start taking B-12. Thanks again.

My 77 yr old mother with back pain,depression and anxiety is currently taking oxy contin 10 mg three times a day, hydrocodone 5/250 three times a day,(possibly more,she is very defensive on this issue),tizanidine 4mg three times a day,ambien 10 mg at hs and was recently prescribed klonopin twice a day,She sets her clock to get up at 2 am to take her oxy contin and frequently has to take a hydrocodone an hour or so later "to get back to sleep".

I have a problem where pills sometimes do not effect me. Melatonin is one. even a prescription for ambien did not work I do not know what I am going to do but cut down on what I have been taking. I am now on citalopram maybe that will help soon.

I have been on xanax .25 and ambien 10mg for 30 years. felt fatigue, jelly legs, anxiety, no appetite, but bloodwork was acceptable, so figured it was that combo that was the culprit. Med. Asst. at PCP told me to quit the xanax, but I could still take one ambien at bedtime. It has been nine days since I quit xanax, but still feel miserable. Should I have weaned off with lighter doses? Have a Rx from PCP to see a psychiatrist to wean me off the drug.

How do you get through an Ambien withdrawl? I was taking up to 7 a day> shaking,sweating,nausea and my mind feels drunk. R there any non-addictive meds to help the detox?

Has anyone ever been given ambien during pregnancy? I just started on it last night to help me sleep. Anyone have any negative effects? Should i be worried about my babies?

I'm 16+2 my dr prescribed me ambien..I'm scared to take it as I've seen what it does to my mom...anyone not have bad side effects like sleep walking, sleep driving or hillucinating?

I've looked up a lot about ambien during pregnancy and I haven't found anything saying you shouldn't take it or that it'll harm the baby. Has anyone spoken to their doctor about ambien? I've had ambien prescription for years and it's really hard for me to sleep. No I'm not addicted, I used to take it only once or twice a week. It wasn't an every day thing. But it gets sooooo hard for me to sleep some nights so I'm wondering if it's safe.

then 30...and so on until its 5 then jump off. I have ambien,rozerem scripts myself but stopped the ambien and made it a once a week or less thing because it can be bad news. You might want to see if the Dr will switch you to say lunesta and see if you can use that while getting off ambien or when you tapered low enough to jump and switch. Good luck.

r u sure it is the ambien? it could be a mixture? all 3 drugs aggravate depression and out of the 3 ambien is categorized as the least addictive of the three drugs u r taking.....i would talk to my doctor and find another alternative for sleep....taking these every night could get u into trouble..have u tried the natural sleep aids like melatonin, valerian, etc?

Does anybody hae any comments about ambien? That stuff is crazy.... when I take it I find myself calling people and having intense conversations but the next day I can't remember anything. I can't even remember going to bed. But if I don't take it I can't fall asleep...

While I was in the office, I forgot to ask whether this new drug could interact with the Ambien, so I stopped taking the Ambien until I could see my doctor again. About a month went by in which I did not use Ambien at all. During this time, the abdominal pains gradually lessened over a period of weeks, and eventually disappeared.

Everyone keeps telling me you need rehab to get off ambien is this true?? I have been on it for 2 years on and off. I have trying to cut my dose. Can anyone give me the side effects of discontinuation ?

I couldnt sleep last night and took an ambien for the first time in awhile and I have to say those are bad pills. I always thought they were okay for me but I made the mistake of taking one and not going to bed right away and I have no recollection of what I did for the last half hour before bed. i have been using ambien for many years now. i used the ambien and it's generic form zolpidem. it has always work up until two months ago when apparently the pharmacy changed suppliers. i took the little round purle pill up until then and now i take a white oval one. This one does not seem to be working as well and the side effect just seem wierd Does anyone think that the new manufacturer product is inferior and has anyone experienced this?

I have been taking ambien for severe insomnia for about 5 years. I have never needed more than one pill a night. I have never taken more than prescribed but I cannot fall asleep without one pill. I am now pregnant, and i am cutting the pill in half. It is still working for me and I can get a few hours of sleep but IM still concerned that I am addicted to this.

has anybody been prescribed ambien at a dose of 20 mg? i have been prescribed this for over 2 years now, after the 10 mgs just stopped working---but i have to change doctors and he says the highest dosage is 10mg.... so is it unheard of to be on 20 mg?
