Alendronate with vitamin d

Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate with vitamin d

fosamax

Avatar f tn Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
Avatar f tn If you are worried that using this has damaged your bones, you should speak to your doctor about this. If may be that you need to have calcium and Vitamin D (this helps the body to absorb calcium) replacement. Do not stop taking the prednisones until you speak with your doctor. The damage to your 3 vertebrae may just be coincidental. Make an appointment with your doctor and discuss your concerns with him. Hope you get on OK. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn 30+ yrs of steroids has thinned my bones significantly, so I was prescribed a bisphosphonate (Alendronate) alongside calcium (Calcichew) and Vitamin D3. My hair is a lot thicker now. You might wish to get tested for Vit.D as I understand that some 50% of the population who do not live in sunny climates, are deficient. Not sure if it affects the hair though. Try googling "hair loss vitamin D" and see what comes up.
Avatar m tn The authors examined the effects of high-dose oral alendronate (40 mg daily) for 6 months on 3 adult patients with intractable headache due to fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Each patient had disease processes not amenable to surgery. The patients underwent clinical follow-up at 1, 3, and 6 months. Their pain levels were documented at each visit by using a visual analog scale. All 3 patients demonstrated a significant decrease in pain levels and became independent of scheduled analgesics.
541196 tn?1293552936 I take a multivitamin daily with 800 iu of Vitamin D. I also recently added 4 gummy vitamin D's that total an addition 1200. I have been hovering with a deficiancy of around 19... today I got the labs back and now I am down to 14. My dr. said she needed me to add 50,000 iu weekly and then after a month go to doing the 50,000 iu once a month in addition to my normal daily 2,000. I am frustrated. I have hashimotos. I was just increased from 88 to 100 mcg of Synthroid this week.
1515564 tn?1431383300 I never had mine tested and was never recommended either. But also the doctors here dont seem to be well versed with this illness. Anything i ask them to get tested for has always been declined saying its not related like testing for prolactin levels too. I think I might get this test done along with prolactin levels in India when i go for my vacation. Meanwhile I take B complex + Vit C, Calcium (when i remember) and Vit E.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D is recommended during pregnancy, centrum pregnancy and pregnacare both have vitamin D in ingredients.
Avatar f tn It is where I learned how important it is to take magnesium in particular with vitamin D in order to get the most benefit from the vitamin D supplements. You should be able to find some archived newsletters on the site, too. Just Google "Vitamin D Council". It is a good idea to build up to it, as the above post says. Some people, especially people with autoimmune issues, are particularly sensitive to vitamin D supplements.
972284 tn?1247905474 You should definitely watch your vitamin a levels, according to the vitamin d council (Dr. CAnnell) vitamin a interferes with vitamin d. I didn't realize it until I read his website, but I was getting Vitamin a toxicity (and probably that was blocking a good chunk of the vit d I was getting). If you go to vitamindcouncil.org, they have a TON of nifty information about the myriad of health benefits of vit D. Somewhere in there they discuss getting the right balance.
Avatar m tn Has anyone had any luck with using vitamin d for depression and anxiety? I've been on medication for a while now and was just wondering if their was anything that would help with depression that wouldn't have such bothersome side effects.
Avatar m tn Authored by a team of researchers at the California-based non-profit Autoimmunity Research Foundation, the paper goes on to point out that molecular biologists have long known that the form of vitamin D derived from food and supplements, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-D), is a secosteroid rather than a vitamin. Like corticosteroid medications, vitamin D may provide short-term relief by lowering inflammation but may exacerbate disease symptoms over the long-term.
Avatar f tn OK, now I'm really confused. I've been taking Calcium with 800 ius vitamin D daily. I decided to up my intake of D in preparation for upcoming treatment. So I started adding another 1000 iu's. Of course, lazy me, I did this without checking my levels but I figured if everyone is so low I must be as well. Today I hear that we are taking too much vitamin D and it is not healthy. They also are thinking of lowering the bottom of the normal range from 30 to 20. What is everyone doing?
1134609 tn?1269272200 I've been tested and have come up with a deficiancy of Vitamin D was told that Vitamin D is like the mortar between the bricks of your colon wall, if you have a deficiancy then the toxins can easily slip through the gaps out your colon and into your blood stream. First stop your liver, then onto your heart and mind. Once your liver starts to drop then it's harder for you to metabolise other vitamins also only making things worse.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the the relationship between Vitamin D and MS and if you take supplements, will it help prevent relapses? I was just reading something about this from a report from the UK--and their research suggests that it does seem to help. I also wonder if you can give vitamin supplements to children/teens and if that will help to prevent the disease later in life.
Avatar f tn I was given two months worth of vitamin d once again from my new rheumatologist. When she asked if I remembered if the vitamin d worked for me when I took it back in October and November, I couldn't say for sure but now since I started taking it again on March 20th, which is once a week. I took the second pill yesterday and realized that the vitamin d makes my right hip hurt with radiating pain down my leg.
Avatar m tn Hi. I'm dealing with low vitamin D myself after recently discovering it is low. I've been supplementing for quite a while before learning that I'm low. Going to pick up portabello & shiitake mushrooms until my visit with GP. If I learn anything of value I'll share it here. It is said not to shower for 24 hours after sun exposure for full absorption of Vit D.
9924471 tn?1419954420 Did the doctor say to give the baby the Vitamin D? If you're breastfeeding, you can take it and it should give your baby what he needs through your milk.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D - is not a vitamin... I wish the never used it and called it a VitD D is a hormone that controls the seratonin and other endorphine levels. If that is off many things are off. A regular Hypo should ahve 2000-4000ius daily.
Avatar f tn So if vitamin d is more so a hormone do you need to wait 4 hours after your meds?
Avatar f tn Have any of you heard a creaking noise in your body, felt movement or had movement/and/or strange feelings in your heart before going on the vitamin d therapy? I was diagnosed with low vitamin d (it was 18) and was told to take the 50000 iu 1per wk for 6 wks but being that i am scared of meds I opted for the 1000 iu per day dosage without a prescription. I think now I should have listened to the doc and took the larger dosage.
Avatar m tn Everything's going to be okay. If anything, your bones would suffer. Don't worry, vitamin D deficiency is extremely common. I take a chewable over the counter for of calcium with vital D. I just couldn't swallow those huge pills. Anyway, my vit D has gone up significantly.
Avatar n tn I am on 5 mg of prednisone and cellcept as well. Can I ask why you stopped taking the cellcept? My Dr is trying to lower me off of the prednisone all together and just stay on the cellcept. I was on 10 mg of pred 4 weeks ago, down to 7.5 mg 2 weeks ago and just got reduced to 5 mg. My numbers are staying in great shape, but I am still holding steady on the cellcept. I have been battling AIH for a year and a half. Nothing has worked w/the prednisone accept for cellcept.
