Fosamax vitamin d

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax vitamin d

fosamax

Avatar f tn Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
7469840 tn?1409845836 He started me on a regimen of weekly Estrogen patch, weekly Fosamax, and Citracal Plus D. It took a few years, but I am now back up to normal bone density. I would not trust just any old Family Practive doctor or PCP. You want someone who specializes in Osteoporosis and who will tailor the treatment to you. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn After gastric bypass, malabsorption is common and the PTH level will increase to help regulate calcium. Taking vitamin D and calcium can help with this. Depending on the serum calcium level, there is an outside chance this is a parathyroid benign tumor (ie if Ca is >10 it is more likely) but usually in these cases the Ca is in the 8.5-9.5 range) and taking extra oral calcium and vitamin D is the best bet.
Avatar n tn HI I believe that fosamax is a PPI which after long term use can affect vitamin and mineral absorbtion from natural means as well as suppliments. Most PPI's help heal the lining of ur esophagus ....ur Dr or pharmacist should be able to help u with this question. In addition to taking meds, u do need to adjust ur lifestyle and diet.....please see the Health Pages here on MedHelp. U will find a list of foods to avoid and foods that r safe, plus lifestyle tips.
Avatar f tn Women should supplement their diets with calcium (1,000 to 2,000 milligrams per day) and vitamin D (400 to 800 IU per day). Also, an exercise routine, including weight-bearing exercises, must be incorporated into one’s lifestyle. Weight-bearing exercises not only increase muscle size, but they increase underlying bone mass, thus decreasing the likelihood of osteoporosis.
Avatar f tn At 1000IU of vitamin D daily, you could take a long time, if ever, to get your vitamin D levels up to optimal range. The average person begins to store vitamin D at 40 ng/ml (100 nmol/L) and at 50 ng/ml (125 nmol/L) virtually everyone begins to store it for future use. I would be aiming for at least 50ng/mL. One study found 93% with unexplained bone and muscle pain with vitamin D deficiency so bone pain is a very common symptom of vitamin D deficiency.
Avatar f tn I took Fosamax, calcium, magnesium and vitamin D - along with multivitamins - throughout treatment without any adverse effects.
691935 tn?1421027090 s apparent that my bone loss was caused initially by liver damage keeping me from converting vitamin D, further compounded by malabsorption of D from diarrhea caused by another drug (not the hcv/riba combo). Took many months for the D situation to straighten out but it looks like a year of rebuilding bone with Fosamax should set things right.
Avatar f tn What positive results did you see? Arthritis is the last thing I need! I take calcium, vitamin D, fish oil, flaxseed oil, vitamin C, and magnesium, I also have osteoporosis and I am 44! I am hoping to see an improvement in my bone scan this summer. Being hyper with Grave's surely didn't help.
Avatar f tn t take estrogen due to having previous blood clots and I have 1000mg of calcium a day and vitamin D is at 60. That is very normal. My doctor is going to increase the vitamin D to 80, towards the higher end of the range. I can't take fosamax either because I took it before and it gave me bad muscle thigh pain. There was a period of about 8 years where I was sitting way too much due to back pain. So I am trying to start walking more.
Avatar f tn Is there any calcium that works better than others? I have been on calcium and vitamin D supplements for years but went from osteopenia level to full-blown severe osteoporosis in a few years I would appreciate any advice since the medical field tells you nothing but to take medication and deal with the outcome!!
Avatar n tn t prescribing any medication for me but tells me to continue taking calcium supplement and Vitamin D and come back in a year to do another test. Since I am obviously having osteoporosis, shouldn't I be taking any prescription drug? I am worried sick over the reading and need some expert opinion to go back and talk to my doctor again. Thank you in advance for any comment.
Avatar m tn Just read about Osteo K with 45 MG of Vitamin K. Is this a good and safe alternative for Fosamax?
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar f tn I was just told my vitamin D level is 4. Been taking Gabapentin since last fall for whAt I believed to be neuropathy...which has been under control since diagnosed last June...being told by an assistant that bs had been high 2 yrs early but not informed til June 2013. Symptoms muscle and foot pain, preventing sleep. Now I am told I have osteoporosis and should start Fosamax and taking 50,000 units do D to bring levels up. Now I wonder if my soupy proms were more due to a Vitamin.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.

Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
