Common Questions and Answers about Alendronate calcium vitamin d
fosamax
Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of VitaminD a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
If you are worried that using this has damaged your bones, you should speak to your doctor about this. If may be that you need to have calcium and VitaminD (this helps the body to absorb calcium) replacement.
Do not stop taking the prednisones until you speak with your doctor.
The damage to your 3 vertebrae may just be coincidental.
Make an appointment with your doctor and discuss your concerns with him.
Hope you get on OK.
Best wishes.
I havent heard that one either although when I was Calcium deficient, I took a Calcium/VitaminD combo as the vit. D helps the Calcium to absorb.
Thats all I know about Vitamin D.
Everything's going to be okay. If anything, your bones would suffer. Don't worry, vitamin D deficiency is extremely common. I take a chewable over the counter for of calcium with vital D. I just couldn't swallow those huge pills. Anyway, my vit D has gone up significantly.
Hi!
If you were my patient, I would advise you to go ahead and use your calcium supplement, but to discontinue your other multivitamin IF it contains vitamin D. You should probably try to find a supplement that does not contain vitamin D, but has all of the other components in your current one. Too much vitamin D can be harmful.
Good luck!
IOM Report: Most North Americans Receive Enough Calcium, Vitamin D
November 30, 2010 — Most North Americans receive enough calcium and vitamin D, according to a report containing updated dietary reference intakes that was released today by the Institute of Medicine.
Sit at a window with the sun shining in for about 1/2 hour (few times a week) and that will help you get enough VitaminD. Good to hear your calcium is normal. Hope that helped you. Thank you for your question.
Hi Dr. Smita,
Thank you for your response!
Actually, I had all my blood test checked (calcium, magnesium, TSH,...etc) Everything came out normal except vitamin d is low. Could it be vitamin d deficiency and calcium still can be normal? I don't understand. My doctor prescribed me 50,000 IU vit. d once a week x 12 weeks and I'm taking Gapapentin 300mg at night from my neurologist for sleep. What he told me my twitching is benign and don't worry about it!
2000 IU should be good if your Vit D levels aer really low. My recent blood tests revealed that and that's what my PCP advised me to take. Vitamin D is really meant to help calcium absorption so don't know how it would help mood swings? if your mood swings are really THAT bad have you talked to your specialist about Seroquil?
What positive results did you see? Arthritis is the last thing I need! I take calcium, vitaminD, fish oil, flaxseed oil, vitamin C, and magnesium, I also have osteoporosis and I am 44! I am hoping to see an improvement in my bone scan this summer. Being hyper with Grave's surely didn't help.
I found Magnesium helped with the aches and pains and with the Vitimin D , I took a combined Calcium/VitaminD tablet. As they say that Vitamin D helps the Calcium to absorb.
This was all ok'd by my Doctor as I have the vitamin deficiencies checked prior to taking anything.
I was also told not to take any vitamins until at least 4 hours after the thyroxin.
I had those levels checked even before I started taking a good multi-vitamin. The levels were extremely high but high enough for me to wonder why??? My VitaminD level was 69.80 on a scale of 15.9 - 52.6. I will definitely let everyone one WHEN I get into the endo. Thanks for your repsonses.
Low levels of sun exposure, inadequate diet lacking in VitaminD. I hope your calcium levels are okay. Ad these two are inter related. Taking a B 12 supplement will be good as well, especially with breakfast in the morning.
I take 2000 mg of vitamin D, and it causes no pain. I feel much better when I take it. I used to be deficient.
I would not stop the vitamin D. Perhaps you need other vitamins and minerals in addition, but the vitamin D shouldn't cause problems.
Try calcium tablets and glutamate powder at night for the hip discomfort. Try magnesium in the morning at 500 IU.
For anyone wishing to learn about the multitude of conditions that happen as a result of Vit D deficiency, you can read the New England Journal of Medicine article by Dr. Michael F. Holick, noted as the world's renown expert on Vitamin D by the Vitamin D Council (www.vitamindcouncil.com) by going to www.vitamindhealth.org and clicking on "original journal articles". hi, am taking,1000 iu vit d,magnesium, lycopene, selenium, multi mineral vitamin, my doctor just said stop taking vit d altogether and come back in 1 year for blood test.
I had severe vitamin D deficiency and severe magnesium deficiency and could not raise my calcium levels. Magnesium is the boss of vitaminD and calcium. VitaminD is the boss of calcium. Don't mess with the boss! :) Iron deficiency and vitamin D deficiency are the two most common deficiencies world wide affecting billions.
