Avatar m tn The last thing the periodontist said to us was if we had to choose between the periodontal and orthodontist was to get the teeth straightened and if there was problem we could then address that problem. The last thing the orthodontist said to us was we should have a strong foundation to start the straightening process. We are now so confused we do not know which way to proceed. Should the periodontal work be completed prior to the braces or what???????
Avatar n tn Thank you. Interestingly enough, my gyno referred me to the pharmacist and the pharmacist couldn't tell me anything I didn't already know from the internet- so-- if you would be kind enough to offer your opinion - ..... if the mechanism of action is to decrease osteoclasts (thereby dead bone cells are not removed) - is this helpful to have denser bones made of dead bone tissue?
Avatar f tn I took my first dose of Alendronate and then experience significant muscle pain for the next 4 days. Does anyone know if I should expect this to happen each time I take it or is it something to happen for the first few times until my body adjusts to the medicine?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn 5 centimeter supra-orbital bone tumor that has been completely stable on scans since 3 and 1/2 years ago. I have had a continuous intractable headache behind my forehead which has not responded to the usual headache therapy regimen. It is believed to be monostotic fibrous dysplasia of the skull. I have found articles to suggest that high-dose bisphosphonate therapy (40 mg/day for 6 months) offers a significant improvement in patients with fibrous dysplasia of the skull.
Avatar n tn 30+ yrs of steroids has thinned my bones significantly, so I was prescribed a bisphosphonate (Alendronate) alongside calcium (Calcichew) and Vitamin D3. My hair is a lot thicker now. You might wish to get tested for Vit.D as I understand that some 50% of the population who do not live in sunny climates, are deficient. Not sure if it affects the hair though. Try googling "hair loss vitamin D" and see what comes up.
Avatar f tn s flare, severe nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss of 18 lbs in last 6 weeks, steatorrhea, pain in mid chest and right upper quadrant. Had CT scan 2 weeks ago which showed significant inflammation in terminal ileum and old pancreatitis with calcification. Gastroscopy last week showed oesphagitis.Biopsies taken. MRI scan Nov 2007 showed two strictures in small intestine. Gastro has advised following until I see him in clinic 23 July: Double my mtx injections to 25 mg weekly.
Avatar f tn Alendronate one tablet once a week for my Osteoporosis, Calcium 600 + D3 too. then I have Telfast 800 mg for my Allergie Rhinitis, Metformin 2 x a day 'cause I'm DM type 2, Simvastatin 10 mg - for cholesterol and Vit. E 400 IU. I took five years of Tamoxifen then changed to Femara because I have had Lumpectomy in September, 2003. Praise the Lord I am cancer free now. BTW I have also Rectozorin for my Hemorrhoid. It bleeds because I'm always constipated.
Avatar f tn Osteoporosis medications like Raloxifene (Evista), alendronate (Fosomax), risendronate (Actonel) and ibandronate (Boniva) all can cause flu like symptoms in individuals that are taking them. I am not sure what medications you are on, but this could be your problem.
Avatar m tn Hi, I asked a question previously. I have a 3.5 x 2.5 cm supra-orbital bone tumor that is believed to be fribrous dysplasia. I began having an intractable pressure headache behind my forehead which became worse just over 3 years ago, and this is what lead to a brain scan. Since it's discovery in 2005, the tumor has remained completely unchanged. I have the monostotic disease.
Avatar f tn I am lactose intolerant so I to do not take in much calcium as it is. Both my 24 hour urine tests tested high for both calcium and oxalate, thus making them the culprit to my many problems. So I am trying hard to not eat much if any oxalate and was also told to limit my dairy intake to two servings a day(not sure I was getting two in before anyway).
793305 tn?1493925518 I had RAI and I had a few problems at the start of the Thyroxin absorbing so my Doctor recommended taking a Calcium/D3 combination and since taking Calcium/D3, my levels evened out and I am doing great. I even tried taking the thyroxine at night and it did help somewhat but am now back to taking Thyroxin when I wake and Calcium before bed. It is also important to get checked for any vitamin deficiences. Zinc, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, Selenium, Cortisol levels too.
Avatar m tn There is a fine balance between calcium, vit D, and magnesium. When any are too high or low it effects the others. I would suggest if you think you need to take calcium that you have you vit. all tested--I suggest you see an integrated doctor.
Avatar n tn For my bones I take Calcium+vitamin D, and once weekly Novo Alendronate which is the equivalent of what you are taking now.My surgeon told me that it's very important for me to take Arimidex because it lessens considerably the estrogen that the body produces thus diminishing the chances of recurrence or developing a new tumor.Personally I would prefer not taking any drugs, but since I have very little side effects, I will continue taking this medication for the next 4 years.
Avatar n tn I have been having elevated calcium lately, I just noticed on my bottle of Peri-colace that each tablet contains 20mg of calcium and I usually take four a day so would 60mg a day of calcium cause high blood calcium levels? Is 60mg alot of calcium to take?
359987 tn?1207673804 My calcium has dropped in the past week and I have had lots of horrible cramping leg and lowerbody pain. You might ask your DR and see what he has to say. As for the surgery, you will be uncomfortable,,,but you will make it thru ok....
Avatar f tn You should be taking a prenatal vitamin. Pasteurized cows milk actually has little calcium and it's difficult for our bodies to absorb. It's good to drink, but a prenatal vitamin is much more effective.
Avatar f tn I'm 16 weeks and everyone keeps telling me I HAVE to drink milk for calcium for my babies bones to get stronger, but I hate milk is there something else I can eat or drink for calcium?
