Avatar m tn This condition is associated with bone pain, bone deformity, and an increased incidence of fracture. Involvement of the skull is associated with headache along with dysmorphic features. Until recently, the principal treatment has been resection or fracture repair, although the latter is often palliative at best. However, new insight into the molecular mechanism of fibrous dysplasia has led to the use of bisphosphonates to treat this disease.

Avatar m tn Hello. I was hit by a car in late March and broke my left tibia. Surgery was performed and I had a rod inserted just below the knee to the shin. I just had my three month follow up examination and the fracture still hasn't healed. I've been diligent with my physical therapy and I have full flexibility in the leg. I can bend the leg at the knee and I can fully extend it. I can put weight on the leg and the doctor no longer requires me to wear the surgical boot.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have a broken sesamoid in my right foot. It was caused by a kickboxing accident about 14 months ago (summer 2019). The initial x-ray I had didn't pick up the fracture and it was diagnosed by a recent MRI (October 2020). I'm currently wearing a walking fracture boot and have been told to wear it for 6 weeks. I've been wearing it for a week, but still get pain and clicking in the big toe joint.
525545 tn?1293181194 Hi, Thanks for writing in. Jones fracture or dancer’s fracture is a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the foot. The fifth metatarsal is at the base of the small toe, and the proximal end, where the Jones fracture occurs, is in the midportion of the foot. Patients who sustain a Jones fracture have pain over this middle/outside area of their foot, swelling, and difficulty walking.
Avatar m tn I have a fracture of the left 2nd metatarsal that is still healing and my Dr. has ordered physical therapy. What I want to know is will physical therapy help in the healing process of a fracture or is that something that should be done once the bone has healed?
Avatar m tn Usually 6-8 but not uncommon for this to take 3 months to see healing. Remmeber that x-ray healing lags behind actual healing because first the body puts cartilage like substance and then bone grows overtop. I'd go off your pain and symptoms but it's good to get interval x-rays to make sure that fracture isn't gapping a bunch.
Avatar m tn Well yes, lack of female hormones post hysterectomy may be associated with slow/ decreased ossification which may sow the process of fracture healing. However though it may play a role, it is not a major factor if compensated with a healthy diet and a healthy lifestyle. You may like to discuss this in detail with your treating doctor. Hope this information helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Post traumatic headaches are commonly observed in patients with trauma or injury to the head. It is good that the maxillary sinus fracture is healing nicely and that you are being closely monitored by an opthalmologist. The headache may be managed by pain medications and relaxation techniques like biofeedback therapy. This may occur weeks to even months after the injury. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn 2) Will reducing smoking to 3 cigarettes a day from 25 per day promote improved fracture healing or do I need to stop completely to improve my chances of union? 3) Has anyone ever experiences a delayed or non-union of the bone (particularly humerus) and if so what actions did you take? Did you have surgery? Did it heal on it's own eventually? If surgery, how was your outcome and recovery (down) time like?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply!
Avatar f tn The application of a cast means that immobilization of the limb is required till the time the cast is removed, to promote healing of the fracture which may take 4-6 weeks. Trying to move the limb unnecessarily may cause fracture displacement and improper healing. Casting does not heal the fracture immediately but just provides support and immobilization required for natural healing.
Avatar n tn I am a 46 yr old female in good health. I recently fell on a slippery floor and put both my arms down behind me to catch myself. The result was a double wrist fracture. It's been seven months, and it still hurts daily; sometimes radiating all the way past my elbow. I have limited range of motion and when I sit a certain way and hold my arms in my lap, my first two fingers on that hand start to go numb. I;ve not had any physical therapy except the exercises I was told to do at home.
Avatar m tn Therefore, it is not uncommon to experience som displacement in a fracture that was initially non-displaced. Fracture healing withe clavicle is dependant upon the degree of displacement, but most fractures heal without the need for significant intervention. However, surgical treatment of clavical fractures is gaining popularity to eliminate the diability time, which can be considerable, and to give a more reliable result.
Avatar f tn closed reduction with 6 wk in a longleg cast; serial biweekly radiographs to rule out displacement. Cast (long or short) until healed (usually ≥12 wk in adults). I hope this helps.
378273 tn?1262097621 s Cyst with debris, subchondral fracture, torn meniscus partially stripped MCL, joint effusion and near-complete cartilate denudation in the lateral patellofemaral joint. Got a cortisone shot, which only helped a little.Ortho doctor called the fracture a bone bruise and said they take months to heal. The torn meniscus won't heal (he said) Other than a "scope" what can I do to get relief! And a scope would only be a temporary fix, right? I'm 77, and very active.
Avatar f tn It is important to not to bear weight on the injured limb to prevent non healing. Periodic X-rays may be needed to ensure that the bone remains aligned and is healing properly. Any misalignment can cause permanent deformity in the limb, also in case of requirement of surgery due to infection, non healing or misalignment, continuous monitoring is required. Best.
Avatar f tn Recent x-rays showed that the bone was not healing. My consultant seemed suprised as I am a young and healthy non-smoker. I have been partial weight bearing on crutches for the last 2 month and doing well in physio. They suggested that I have the bottom screw in my knee removed, which I am due to have done in 2 weeks. Please can you advise me if this operation is generally successful in promoting bone growth?
Avatar f tn about 2 yrs ago my upper arm had a simple fracture and i am still having pain, why
Avatar f tn In addition, he pointed out that the lower fibula fracture showed no callus either, and since the top break was healing well that it was likely just the break's location slowing the healing progress. It is worth noting that the fracture alignment has remained good on all xrays since post op, and I do know that accepted wisdom is that the farther down the tibia you go, the longer it is likely to take to heal.
Avatar m tn Flexion Extension was fine with no screw movement or diffrences in the fracture. The registar said the collar may come of but he will need the consultants confirmation. Dos this mean the fracture will never heal, or will it take time? the screw is pretty robust, but will it limit anything?
Avatar f tn Forgot to ask: If there is less soreness, does that mean it's possibly healing (the fracture) or is that just the soft tissue healing? And if the bone scan shows it's not healed yet, is there a chance it could heal still (after 12 weeks) or is surgery my best bet? And if some healing has happened, how much would be considered to be good as far as that it will continue? E.g.
Avatar n tn After couple of weeks your pain will decrease and also go for a follow up visit and an X-ray to know if your tibia fracture is healing properly and based on the results you can proceed. Complete recovery with no pain and proper gait will take at least 6 months from now if your bone heals. Take care!
Avatar m tn The duration of rest would also depend on the severity of the fracture and the healing response. For severe or non-healing fractures, surgery may need to be considered. At this time I would suggest a re-evaluation by an orthopedician to look for other possible causes of foot pain and an appropriate management. Hope this is useful. Take care!
